WESTCHESTER COUNTRY DAY BOYS 68, THOMASVILLE 66

HIGH POINT — Justice Cuthbertson scored 26 points and Josh Burton added 20 as the Westchester Country Day School boys turned back Thomasville 68-66 in a consolation game at the Sheetz Holiday Christmas Basketball Classic at Southwest Guilford on Friday night.

Baxter Bruggeworth added nine points for the Wildcats.

Demoris Payne and Latrele Skeen led the Bulldogs with 16 points each.

 

WESTERN GUILFORD BOYS 66, SOUTHERN ALAMANCE 64

HIGH POINT — Austin Lewis scored 22 points — including the game-winning 3-pointer with four seconds left — to help lift Western Guilford past Southern Alamance 66-64 in Friday’s semifinals of the Sheetz Holiday Christmas Basketball Classic at Southwest Guilford.

Down 64-63 with 16 seconds left, Lewis took a pass on the left wing as his teammate drove to the basket and knocked down the open shot. Southern Alamance’s 3-point heave just inside halfcourt at the buzzer came up short.

Quinton Millner scored 13 points while Carmoni Marks added 12 for Western Guilford, which led 27-26 at halftime but trailed 44-48 heading into the fourth. Jalen Burnett scored 16 followed by Eric Foster with 11 and Shane Forbes and 10 to lead Southern Alamance.

Western Guilford will face Southwest Guilford in tonight’s tournament championship at 7:30 in the Jim Coggins Gym, while Southern Alamance will face High Point Central at 4:30 in the Jim Coggins Gym.

 

MYERS PARK BOYS 56, T.W. ANDREWS 39

HIGH POINT — Zaqwaun Matthews scored 15 points as Myers Park broke away from Andrews in the middle two quarters for a 56-39 win Friday in the consolation bracket of the Sheetz Holiday Christmas Basketball Classic at Southwest Guilford.

Clayton Massey added 12 while Jake Hackworth followed with 10 to lead Myers Park, which led 11-10 after one quarter before outscoring the Red Raiders 28-17 in the second and third quarters. Chris Eatmon had 11 points to lead Andrews, followed by Dekwon Miller with 10 and Chris Crone with eight.

Myers Park will face Westchester Country Day in the fifth-place game this afternoon at 1:30 in the Jim Coggins Gym, while Andrews will face Thomasville at 1:30 in the Annex Gym.

 

WESTERN GUILFORD GIRLS 63, WESLEYAN 26

HIGH POINT — Ivana Davis scored 17 points to lead three players in double figures as Western Guilford rolled past Wesleyan Christian Academy 63-26 in Friday’s semifinals of the Sheetz Holiday Christmas Basketball Classic at Southwest Guilford.

Kariman Dean and Selena Lozada each added 14 points for the Hornets, who built a 21-6 lead after one quarter and led 39-16 at halftime. Anna Massey and Holland Robinson each scored nine points while Jessica Williard added six for the Trojans.

Western Guilford advances to face Southwest Guilford in tonight’s girls championship at 6 in the Jim Coggins Gym.

 

SOUTHERN GUILFORD GIRLS 45, WESTCHESTER COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL 19

HIGH POINT — Kelena Morris scored a game-high 14 points to help lead Southern Guilford past Westchester Country Day School 45-19 in the consolation bracket Friday at the Sheetz Holiday Christmas Basketball Classic at Southwest Guilford.

Aloni McFarland added six points while Jocelyn Ford scored five for the Storm, which led 11-4 after one quarter and 22-6 at halftime. Meghan Ingram scored 13 points to lead the Wildcats while Lea Rasenberger, Terra Johns and Anna Hood each added two.

Southern will face Caldwell in the fifth-place game today at noon in the Jim Coggins Gym while Westchester will face High Point Central in the seventh-place game at noon in the Annex Gym.

 

CALDWELL ACADEMY GIRLS 51, HP CENTRAL 20

HIGH POINT – CC Ganim scored 12 points to help lead Caldwell Academy past High Point Central 51-20 in a consolation bracket matchup Friday in the Sheetz Holiday Christmas Basketball Classic at Southwest Guilford.

Lexie Newsome added 10 points followed by Callie Carlson with eight for Caldwell, which led 12-2 after one quarter and 24-5 at halftime. Kierra Curry scored 15 points for the Bison, followed by Candace McLean and Qualisha Blakely with two apiece.

Caldwell will play in the fifth-place game today at noon in the Jim Coggins Gym while Central will face Westchester Country Day in the seventh-place game at noon in the Annex Gym.

 

ASHEBORO COURIER-TRIBUNE INVITATIONAL

WHEATMORE REACHES FINAL

ASHEBORO – Wheatmore’s boys defeated Trinity 46-35 in the semifinals of the Asheboro Courier-Tribune Invitational on Friday.

The Warriors advance to play Jordan-Matthews for the crown tonight at 7:30. Trinity plays Eastern Randolph in the third-place game at 6.

Earlier Friday, it was Randleman 66, Providence Grove 47 and Asheboro 81, Southwestern Randolph 62 in consolation bracket contests.

Today’s seventh-place game pits Providence Grove vs. SW Randolph at 1, followed by the fifth-place game between Randleman and Asheboro at 2:30.

 

NEWBRIDGE CHRISTMAS CLASSIC

SE GUILFORD GIRLS 46, LEDFORD 44

WALLBURG – Southeast Guilford’s girls nipped host Ledford 46-44 in the finals of the Newbridge Bank Christmas Classic on Friday night.

Kenya Hailey led the Falcons with 16 points, while Kara Shutt added 13.

Emmalee Thomas paced the Panthers with 15 points, while Courtney Callicutt added 11. Leigh Midkiff finished with 12 rebounds and five points for Ledford.

Shutt was voted tournament MVP and joined on the all-tournament squad by SE Guilford’s Kayla Upshaw, Ledford’s Emily Thomas and Callicutt and South Davidson’s Madison Sigmon.

 

LEDFORD BOYS 80, EAST DAVIDSON 74

WALLBURG – Brandon Rothrock scorched the nets for 40 points as Ledford’s boys nipped East Davidson 80-74 in a consolation game at the Newbridge Bank Christmas Classic on Friday.

Skylar McGee added 13 points for the Panthers, while Jonathan Turner had 10.

Matthew Johnson paced the Golden Eagles with 24 points and Josh Craven added 20. Taylor Booze scored 10.

 

SE GUILFORD BOYS 82, SOUTH DAVIDSON 31

WALLBURG – Diondre Overton scored 19 points to spark Southeast Guilford’s boys to an 82-31 win over South Davidson in a consolation game of the Newbridge Bank Christmas Classic on Friday at Ledford High.

Joshua Crutchfield added 18 points for the Falcons, while Bobby Hampton had 12.

Zeke Hazelwood led the Wildcats with 13 points.

NEW HAMPTON 68, HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 51

RALEIGH — New Hampton’s boys defeated High Point Christian Academy 68-51 in the second round of the High School OT Holiday Invitational Tournament at Raleigh Broughton High on Friday.

Jackson Kent led HPCA (11-2) with 14 points. Diante Baldwin added 13 and Mike Kobani had 9.

HPCA will play the winner of Oxford Webb and Word of God today at 2:20 p.m. 

 

RAGSDALE BOYS 59, NORTHERN GUILFORD 50 (2 OTS)

GREENSBORO – Ragsdale’s boys worked double overtime to defeat Northern Guilford 59-50 in the third-place game of the Timco Invitational on Friday at the Greensboro Coliseum.

James Stepp scored five of his team-high 20 points in the second overtime for the Tigers (6-7). Joseph Bryant netted 19 points for Ragsdale, while Kenyon Mack added nine points and eight rebounds. Ragsdale shot 7-of-15 from 3-point range, including 4-of-7 for Stepp.

The game was tied 46-46 at the end of regulation and 48-48 after the first OT.

T.J. Logan and Malik Prioleau led Northern (2-10) with 14 points each.

 

NORTHERN GUILFORD GIRLS 54, RAGSDALE 35

GREENSBORO – Amanda Coffer finished with 15 points as the Northern Guilford girls topped Ragsdale 54-35 in the fifth-place game of the Timco Invitational on Friday at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Aliyah Grinage added 12 points for Northern (11-1) and Sydney Wilson had 11.

Mikayla Pettyjohn paced the Tigers (4-9) with 15 points and six rebounds. Jordan Quick notched seven rebounds and four points for Ragsdale.

 

MONTEREY TRAIL GIRLS 42, BISHOP MCGUINNESS 22

SAN FRANCISCO – Monterey Trail’s girls topped Bishop McGuinness 42-22 in a West Coast Jamboree consolation bracket second-round game on Friday.

Jasmine Redmon tallied 18 points and Oiana Levy scored 15 for Monterey Trail (9-4). Cameron Neiters led the Villains (5-3) with eight points and Danielle Neiters added seven.

Bishop will play at 2 p.m. EST today against either View Park or Sheldon.

In Thursday’s late game, Berkeley topped Bishop 59-49. Tia Cappuccio led the Villains with 15 points. Danielle Neiters added 11 points for Bishop.

 

NORTH VIEW BOYS 41, BISHOP MCGUINNESS 32

ATLANTA — Bishop McGuinness’ Kevin Weckworth went down with an injury late in the third quarter and the Villain boys fell 41-32 to North View in the semifinals of the Westminster Holiday Classic on Friday.

Both teams stand 5-3 on the year.

Nick Efird led the Villains with 10 points, while Tucker Crews had nine and Weckworth eight.
