Andrews girls remain unbeaten
JAMESTOWN – the T.W. Andrews girls held Ragsdale to under 10 points each quarter and rolled to a 48-29 win Thursday.
Santia Davis led the Red Raiders with 23 points while Destiny Timberlake had 10.
Ragsdale led 9-7 after the first quarter. Andrews then took control by outscoring the Tigers by a combined 28-12 in the second and third quarters. The Red Raiders improve to 9-0.
Jordan Quick led Ragsdale (3-6) with 14 points.
THOMASVILLE GIRLS 68, REAGAN 51
WINSTON-SALEM – Thomasville’s girls overwhelmed Reagan in the first and third quarters on the way to a 68-51 win in the quarterfinals of the Mary Garber Tournament on Thursday at Arkins High School.
The Bulldogs enjoyed a 12-point lead after the first period and outscored the Raiders by 13 in the third to take a 59-35 cushion into the final period. Thomasville will face Mount Tabor or Lexington in the semifinals today at 7:30 p.m. The championship game is Saturday.
Timber Tate, a freshman, scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs (5-1). Jashana Thomas added 17 and Joslyn Spires had 16. Tate and Thomas each grabbed eight rebounds. Spires dished eight assists.
SW GUILFORD BOYS 79, HOPEWELL 52
GREENSBORO – Terrell Leach scored 35 points to help spark Southwest Guilford’s boys to a 79-52 victory over Hopewell in the Kernersville Medical Shootout at Northwest Guilford.
Improving to 7-0, the Cowboys continue play in the Shootout today, facing Southern Guilford at 6 p.m.
Up just two after one period, Southwest broke open a close game by blitzing the Titans 29-8 in the second to lead 48-25 at the half. The lead grew to as many as 34 in the third quarter.
HP CHRISTIAN BOYS 65, UNIVERSITY HIGH 33
CORAL SPRINGS – High Point Christian’s boys romped to a 65-33 victory over University High of Davie, Fla., in the opening round of the Kruel Championship on Thursday.
Dominating from the start, the 8-1 Cougars led by 12 after one quarter, 16 at the half and 24 after three quarters. Mike Kobani led HPCA with 12 points. Malik Wright and Jackson Kent each had 10. Diante Baldwin added seven points and dished five assists.
HPCA advanced to a semifinal game today at 1 p.m.
LEXINGTON 55, GLENN GIRLS 39
WINSTON-SALEM – Lexington steadily built its lead and defeated Gleen 55-39 in the first round of the Mary Garber Tournament on Wednesday.
The Yellow Jackets (4-4) led by four after the first quarter, seven at halftime and 11 after three quarters. Alexis Fowler led the winners with 13 points while Jasmine Carter added 11 and Charti Wall had 10.
Deonna Young scored 19 to pace Glenn (4-5)
AT MOUNT TABOR
WINSTON-SALEM – Thomasville cruised to a pair of duel wrestling victories on Thursday at Mount Tabor, blanking Atkins 84-0 and pinning the host school, 66-13
Those wrestlers who won both of their matches for the Bulldogs (13-2) included Haji Martin at 106 pounds, Jason Boutasody at 113, Ashan Butt at 120, Tay Dupree at 126, Corbin Wilson at 132, Brett Hokenson at 138, Luke Williams at 145, Felix Fernandez at 152, Evan Makeupson at 160, Aaron Revves at 170, Keith Clemmons at 195 and Anthony Briseneo at 220.
AT NORTHEAST GUILFORD
MCLEANSVILLE – Trinity posted a pair of wins Wednesday, edging host Northeast Guilford 40-36 and topping Lexington 49-30.
Wrestlers who went 2-0 for the Bulldogs (12-3) were Austin Minish at 113 pounds, Brandon Sparks at 138, Alex Guevara at 152m James Bryant at 160, A.J. PAtron at 170, Dakota Helmstetler at 182 and Chess Delgado at heavyweight.
