HPU men return home

Dec. 01, 2012 @ 10:41 PM

Coming off a hard last-second loss at Western Michigan, the High Point University men’s basketball team will what appears to be a breather today as they head toward Wednesday’s trip to Wake Forest.
The Panthers will entertain the Charlotte campus of Johnson & Wales, which is a member of the United State Collegiate Athletic Association that wile be playing it 14th game in the month and went up against Bob Jones University on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m. at the Millis Center (radio: WMFR).
Johnson and Wales has faced two NCAA Divison I schools and lost both games by wide margins. They fell 109-46 to North Carolina Central and 96-40 to Big South member Coastal Carolina. The only previous meeting between HPU and Johnson and Wales was in an exhibition game that resulted in  96-25 HPU victory before the official start of the 2009-10.
HPU will seek to take care of the ball better than it did against the Broncos in committing 19 turnovers, the most since losing the ball 19 times in loss to Radford in January of this year. The Panthers will also look for the return of offense from big men John Brown and Allan Chaney as freshman guard Adam Weary was the scoring leader against Western and Indiana State, the first time a freshman has led HPU in back-to-back games since Nick Barbour in 2009. Weary’s play earned him a starting role against the Broncos.
Brown and Chaney are still in the top 10 in scoring in the Big South. Brown is sixth at 16.8 points per game with Chaney 10th at 14.2. Chaney is second in rebounding with eight boards per game.
