HPU women stand 13th in tourney
The High Point University women’s golf team sits in 13th out of 28 teams at 622 through two rounds of play at the C&F Bank Invitational on Monday. HPU shot a combined 309 on a cold and rainy Monday and improved four strokes from its 313 in the first round.
Play in the second round was delayed two hours due to inclement weather and suspended due to darkness on Monday. The tournament has been shortened to a 36-hole event. High Point was able to finish both of its rounds because of an early tee time, however the 12 teams that did not finish will resume second-round play at 9:30 a.m. today. The final round will follow later today.
“I was very pleased with the way the team performed today,” HPU head coach Vici Pate Flesher said.
Freshman Tan Cheeranont led the way for HPU, firing an even-par 71 and is tied for eighth overall out of 148 players. Cheeranont followed her 77 on Sunday for a 148 total. Fellow freshman Casey Ward 76-81–157) shares 57th overall. Sophomore Grier Bennett (78-82–160) shares 73rd. Also tied for 73rd are seniors Jessica Neese and Audra McShane, who both carded a 79 in the first round and 81 on Monday.
Currently atop the team standings is Boston College with a 302. Big South member Gardner-Webb is second with a 309 and Wofford, also with a 309, occupies third based on total team score through the current round. Richmond (311) occupies fourth place while Lehigh and Delaware are tied for fifth. Each team will finish its round today.
