Central sweeps Glenn 9-0 in tennis
Kristen Biddle led a string of singles winners for High Point Central in a 9-0 Piedmont Triad 4A win over visiting Glenn on Wednesday.
Eva Ellenburg, Emily Adams, Rachel Shelton, Meredith Field and Bailey Watson also won in singles for the Bison (8-1, 3-1). Biddle/Ellenburg, Aly Willcox/ Shelton and Weston/Hadley Mason won in doubles.
LEDFORD 9, N. FORSTYH 0
WALLBURG — Ledford swept visiting North Forsyth 9-0 in a Mid-Piedmont 3A match Wednesday.
Taylor Freeman, Elizabeth Stroup, Erin Crotts, Emma Caroline Russell, Sarah Richardson and Katie Wilson won in singles for the Panthers (10-0, 6-0 MPC). In doubles, Mackenzie Cranford teamed with Freeman to win No. 1 doubles, as did Crotts-Russell at No. 2 and Richardson-Wilson at No. 3.
Ledford plays again Monday against Western Guilford.
Additionally, Russell was inadvertently omitted from the singles winners Monday against Southwestern Randolph.
WHEATMORE 9, ANDREWS 0
TRINITY — Wheatmore stayed perfect in the PAC6 2A with a 9-0 sweep of T.W. Andrews on Wednesday.
Mary Vecellio, Stephanie Fortner, Jordan Myers, Jessica Myers, Olivia Doane and Hannah Davis took singles wins for the Warriors (9-1, 4-0 PAC6). Doane and Davis, the Myers sisters and Sydney Peele and Shea Hinsley won in doubles.
Wheatmore goes to Cental Davidson today.
SW RANDOLPH 9, S. GUILFORD 0
FARMER — Southwestern Randolph swept visiting Southern Guilford 9-0 on Wednesday.
The Storm fall to 1-6 overall and 0-6 in the Mid-Piedmont 3A. They play again today at Eastern Guilford.
NW GUILFORD 7, SW GUILFORD 2
OAK RIDGE — Northwest Guilford swept the singles matches on the way to a 7-2 win over Southwest Guilford in Piedmont Triad 4A play.
Winners for the Cowgirls in doubles included the teams of Erin Shelton and Maggie Jermyn, and Sophia Nagy and Carley Ann Bullman.
AT OAK HOLLOW
HIGH POINT — Ninth-grader Lauren Giles shot a 6-over-par 42 to take medalist honors and led High Point Central to victory in a tri-match Wednesday at Oak Hollow.
The Bison finished with a 146 total, 12 strokes better than runner-up Asheboro. Providence Grove was third at 168.
Ashlyn Day posted a 48 for the Bison’s second-best score. Jennifer Gallanti and Chandler Clodfelter were next for Central with 56s.
AT RIVER LANDING
COLFAX — Southwest Guilford finished with a 145 total and a 15-shot win over Grimsley on Wednesday.
Sarah Phelan of Southwest was the medalist with a 7-over-par 42. Others counting scorers for the Cowgirls were Madison Harriman (47) and Michael Brooks (56).
AT SALEM GLEN
CLEMMONS — West Forsyth finished with a 150 total and edged Glenn by a stroke for first place in a tri-match. East Forsyth was third at 157.
Madi Poindexter took individual honors with a 48. Counting scorers for Glenn were Savannah Gilbert (49), Taylor Strassburg (50) and Baily Coble (52).
AT SAPONA RIDGE CC
LEXINGTON — Ledford turned in the top three scores as it finished with a 116 total and a 45-shot win over North Davidson.
A 35 by the Panthers’ Julia Carroll was the low round of the day. Other counting scorers for the Panthers were Alexis Kershaw (39) and Meghan Holbrooks (42).
SOUTH STOKES 2, BISHOP 1
WALNUT COVE — Hunter Rothrock scored the deciding goal in the 73rd minute as South Stokes edged Bishop McGuinness 2-1 on Wedensday.
Rothrock opened the scoring, and Bishop’s Jason Standen took a pass from Andrew Chappelow in the 59th minute to tie it. Bishop drops to 1-5-1.
W. GUILFORD 3, LEDFORD 2
GREENSBORO — Johannen Dixon scored both goals for Ledford in a 3-2 Mid-Piedmont 3A loss to Western Guilford on Wednesday.
Eassa Zatawi grabbed six saves in goal for the Panthers.
AT SANDY RIDGE ROAD
HIGH POINT — Tofik Gebre and Susie Griffin each finished second to highlight High Point Central’s races Wednesday against visiting East Forsyth.
Gebre finished in 19:19.97 for the Bison boys, who finished with 44 points behind East Forsyth’s 19 points. Ryan Anderson was 11th in 23:26.44, and Johannes Reifenrath was 13th in 23:57.06.
Griffin finished in 23:02.59 for the Central girls, who totaled 30 points behind East Forsyth’s 27. Kiana Scott was fourth in 25:28.77, and Mary Grace Martin was seventh in 27:17.02.
The Bison’s next meet is Wednesday at Northwest Guilford.
RANDLEMAN — The Wheatmore boys and girls finished second to host Randleman in a multi-team meet.
Randleman’s boys took four of the first five spots and finished with 20 points. Wheatmore had 64, followed by Providence Grove (98), Atkins (70) and T.W. Andrews (144).
Counting runners for the Warriors were Jeremiah Monroe (19:56), Madison Fountain (20:38), Ian York (22:06), Adam Davis (23:50) and Alex Millikan (26:43).
Randleman’s girls also finished with 20 points. Wheatmore had 50 and edged Providence Grove by two points.
Wheatmore’s top five were Alexis Rowell (26:51), Katherine Cromer (27:49), Jennifer Williams (28:08), Payton Moore (29:45) and Ruthie Spencer (31:14).
