It’s couldn’t get much closer at the top of this week’s High Point Enterprise High Five prep football poll.

High Point Central returned to No. 1 with two first-place votes and 13 points following Friday night’s 32-14 upset of previously undefeated and state third-ranked East Forsyth at Simeon Stadium.

The Bison (5-2, 1-0 Piedmont Triad 4A Conference) spent the first five weeks atop the High Five before surrendering that ranking to T.W. Andrews the past two weeks.

The Red Raiders, who improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in PAC-6 2A play with Friday’s 47-6 romp past Providence Grove, earned the other first-place vote and 12 points to stand second.

Strength of schedule, coupled with Central’s 27-7 season-opening victory over Andrews, weighed heavily in this week’s balloting.

East Davidson climbed one position to third following Friday’s dramatic 33-32 victory at Salisbury. The Golden Eagles (6-1, 1-0 Central Carolina 2A Conference) collected all three third-place votes for nine points.

Southern Guilford joined the survey for the first time this season, garnering six points for fourth place. The Storm (4-4, 2-1 Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference) defeated Central Davidson 28-21 on Friday night.

Ledford slipped from third to fifth with three points following Friday’s 21-14 Mid-Piedmont 3A loss to visiting Asheboro. The Panthers stand 4-3, 1-2 on the campaign.

Bishop McGuinness, last week’s fifth-ranked team, dropped out of the poll after a 42-7 loss at Mount Airy. The Villains fell to 4-3, 0-1 Northwest 1A Conference.

All five ranked teams are in action this week.

Central visits Northwest Guilford for a key PTC 4A clash, while Andrews plays host to Randleman in a clash of PAC-6 2A powers. East Davidson welcomes Thomasville, while Southern Guilford travels to Asheboro and Ledford heads to Southwestern Randolph.

Also Friday night, it’s Trinity at Wheatmore, Ragsdale at Southwest Guilford, Christ School at High Point Christian Academy, Glenn at East Forsyth and Bishop at East Surry.
