Franklin, Cline sizzle in first round

Today’s final round of the High Point junior golf tournament shapes up as two-man battle at Oak Hollow in the championship flight of the boys 16-18 division.
Justin Franklin and Wes Cline shot opening round 74s on Tuesday at Blair Park to open up some breathing room over the other five in the championship flight of the boys 16-18 division. They are 5 shots ahead of Addison Dorn, Hunter Whetzel and Drew Adams with 18 holes to play.
Interestingly, Franklin, Cline, Dorn and Whetzel will be the first group to tee off this morning at 8. Adams will be in the next group along with Matt Joyner and Matthew Benton.
Kasey Nichols holds the lead in first flight by a shot over Andrew Jent, with Joshua Benton another stroke back.
Donovan Durham shot the best score of the day to take the lead in the boys 13-15 division. He carded a 73 and is 2 shots ahead of Mason Jenkins. Devin Lanier is third and trails Durham by another 3 strokes.
Andrew Johnson is the leader in boys 13-15 first flight. He carded an 83 and is two shots ahead of Isaac Childrey.
Chase Sells is the championship flight leader in the boys 10-12 division. He shot a 48 for nine holes to take a 1-shot lead over William Holt. Gabe MIller shot 52 to take the first flight lead over Michael Blair by a stroke.
Benjamin McCain shot 55 to lead in the boys 7-9 division, while Kendall Tyler carded a 57 for the lead among girls 7-9.
