Trinity taps Conte as girls basketball coach

Trinity High School has named Dana Conte girls varsity head basketball coach.
Conte previously served as the girls varsity basketball coach at T. W. Andrews High School from 2001-2006. Prior to his time at Andrews, he was girls varsity basketball coach at Wesleyan Christian Academy. He is an NCHSAA certified official and the co-founder and director of “Hoops and Dreams.” He has an extensive background in assisting high school players with receiving financial aid and/or scholarships.
Conte also has 13 years of experience in the Piedmont as an AAU coach.
“We believe that Coach Conte is a perfect fit for our girls program,” Trinity athletic director Luke Brown said. “His vision for our student’s reaches past their participation in high school athletics. With his extensive coaching background, we know that our program will be in good hands.”

WESTCHESTER TAKES TAC 2A TITLE
GRAHAM — TAC 2A player of the year Thomas Walsh earned medalist honors at 2-under 68 as Westchester Country Day School rolled to the league tournament crown on Tuesday at Quarry Hills.
The Wildcats shot 295 to defeat runnerup Elon School by 13 strokes. Trinity of Durham placed third at 308, followed by Caldwell Academy at 327 and Burlington Christian at 356.
Hardin Councill (72), Russell Marion (77) and Jake Weiland (78) also counted for the Wildcats and joined Walsh on the all-conference team.
Westchester competes in the NCISAA 2A championships on Monday and Tuesday at Pine Needles.

MIDWEST 1A REGIONAL
TROY – Tanner Owen shot the only under-par round in helping Bishop McGuinness post a lopsided victory in the NCHSAA 1A Midwest regional at Denson’s Creek Golf Club.
Owen carded a 4-under-par 68 as Bishop put together a 292 total and a 29-shot victory over East Surry. Other counting scorers for the Villains were Kevin Sowinski (73), Mason Orr (75), and Jonathon Davis (76).
Host school west Montgomery posted a 328 and was the final team to advance to the state tournament May 13-14 at Chapel Hill Country Club.
Other team scores were East Wilkes (336), Pine Lakes Prep (340), Union Academy (358), Gray Stone Day (359), Albemarle (360), Elkin (362), and North Moore (431).

TENNIS

BISHOP SET TO HOST LAKE NORMAN CHARTER IN ROUND TWO
KERNERSVILLE — The Bishop McGuinness boys team will play host to Lake Norman Charter today at 4 p.m. in the second round of the NCHSAA 1A dual-team playoffs, weather permitting. The match was postponed from Tuesday to today by wet weather.
The Villains (13-1) defeated Alleghany 8-1 in the first round of the playoffs last week.

LACROSSE

MARVIN RIDGE GIRLS 23, BISHOP 7
WAXHAW — Marvin Ridge topped Bishop McGuinness 23-7 in the second round of the NCHSAA girls lacrosse playoffs on Tuesday.
Megan Shortt scored five goals for the Villains, while Adaire Hudson and Jill Lindquist added one goal apiece. Adora Nsonwu made 16 saves in goal for Bishop.
Amy Collins tallied seven goals for Marvin Ridge, while Claire Murphy had six.
