Wesleyan routs Calvary Baptist in PACIS baseball

BASEBALL

WESLEYAN 11, CALVARY BAPTIST 3
HIGH POINT – Jake Moebius and Greg White each drove in two runs for Wesleyan in an 11-3 win over Calvary Baptist in PACIS action on Thursday.
Moebius and Hayden Manuel each went 2 for 4, and White was 1 for 2.
Riley Isenhour pitched the first four innings for Wesleyan and got the win. The Warriors improve to 8-0 in the conference and 8-3 overall. They play North Davidson today at Ed Price Field.

S. GUILFORD 1, LEDFORD 0
SUMNER — Southern Guilford scored the game’s only run in the third to edge Ledford 1-0 on Thursday in Mid-Piedmont 3A action.
Taylor Sugg was the winning pitcher as the Panthers managed just five hits. Evan Edwards and Ryan Caveness hit doubles that were among the Storms’ six hits.
Michael Horrell had two hits for Ledford while Austin Stilley, Adam Teague and Chaz Shields had one each. Horrell also took the loss on the mound.

WHEATMORE 5, E. RANDOLPH 4
TRINITY —  Wheatmore outlasted Eastern Randolph 5-4 on THursday in PAC-6 play.
The Warriors led 5-1 after three innings then held on as ER scored three times in the seventh.
Danny Tunrbull went the distance on the mound for Wheatmore, striking out 10. Tyler Stephens was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
The Warriors (4-11, 2-3 PAC6) play host to Randleman today.

SOFTBALL
E. DAVIDSON 5, LEDFORD 1
WALLBURG – Brooke Walser got the win on the mound and went 2 for 3 at the plate to help East Davidson top long-time rival Ledford 5-1 in nonconference action on Thursday.
Bayley Plummer hit a homer and went 2 for 3. Sydney Bowles went 2 for 3 and drove in a run.
East plays host to Salisbury today at 4:30 p.m.

SW GUILFORD 14, HP CENTRAL 3 (5 INN>)
HIGH POINT — Erin Thompson lashed three singles and a triple, drove in five runs and scored four to help Southwest Guilford down High Point Central 14-3 on Thursday in an “Multiple Sclerosis awareness’ game that was in honor of her mother, who died of the disease before the season started.
Thompson got plenty of support in the game that was stopped after five innings because of the mercy rule.
Casey Millen cracked two doubles and a singles, had two RBIs and scored four runs. Julia Goodwin was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Bri Adkins went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Jenny Davis was 2 for 4 with an RBi and two runs scored.
Goodwin picked up the win, going all five innings as she struck out six and walked one.
Southwest (9-5, 4-2 Piedmont Triad 4A) returns to action Saturday in the Hoggard Invitational in Wilmington.

WHEATMORE 14, W, DAVIDSON 1
TRINITY — Nicole Hunter clouted a grand slam home run to help Wheatmore roll to a 14-1 win over visiting West Davidson on Thursday. The nonconference game was stopped in the fifth inning because of the mercy rule.
Other leading hitters for the Warriors were Jordan Myers (3 for 3,  one RBI), Davey Albertson (3 for 3), Katie Kennedy (2 for 2, two RBIs) and Jessica Myers (2 for 4 with two RBIs).
Margan Halo, who struck out five, was the winning pitcher.
Wheatmore travels to Randleman today.

 

SOCCER

RAGSDALE 6, HP CENTRAL 0
JAMESTOWN – Ragsdale shut down High Point Central 6-0 on Thursday night in Piedmont Triad 4A action.
Montana Fleming, Maria Orfanedes and Lindsay Kubrick scored two goals each for the Tigers. Fleming, Kubrick and Lauren Whitaker were each credited with an assist.
Cameron Dixon had 24 saves for the Bison, who drop to 3-6, 0-4 PTC and play host to Southern Guilford on Tuesday.

THOMASVILLE 3, N. ROWAN 3 (2OT)
THOMASVILLE – Thomasville and North Rowan played to a 3-3 tie in Central Carolina 2A action Thursday,
Destni Morrison scored two goals for the Bulldogs, and Charity Oliver had one. Jessica Wicker was credited with an assist. Araceli Vazquez and Sarah Herman split time in goal.
Thomasville (1-9-1, 0-4-1 CCC) goes to West Davidson on Monday.

LEDFORD 2, WESTERN GUILFORD 2
WALLBURG — Tori Farlow and Kelli Hooker scored for Ledford in a 2-2 tie with Western Guilford on Thursday.
Ashlynn Mann had nine saves for the Panthers. 

TENNIS

W-S REYNOLDS 6, HP CENTRAL 3
WINSTON-SALEM — High Point Central closed out the regular season with a 6-3 out-of-conference loss to host R.J. Reynolds on Thursday.
Robert Tutton and Matt Amos won singles matches for the Bison and Amos teamed with Clayton Howell to win doubles.
Suffering its only nonconference loss, Central dropped to 12-3. The Bison next play in the Piedmont Triad 4A individual tournament on April 22,


NW GUILFORD 8, SW GUILFORD 1
HIGH POINT – Jeremy Cronin provided the only win for Southwest Guilford in a 8-1 Piedmont Triad 4 loss to visiting Northwest Guilford on Thursday.
Southwest drops to 9-6 and 6-4 in the league. Northwest remained unbeaten in the league as it improved to 9-0 and 12-1 overall.

LEDFORD 5, TRINITY 4
WALLBURG – Ledford won two of the three doubles matches to edge Trinity 5-4 in nonconference action on Thursday.
Cameron Maxwell, Alan Boodea and Randy Norwood won singles matches for the Panthers. Bodea/Norwood and Matt Hartzell/Shelby Spainhour took doubles matches for Ledford (11-6).

BISHOP 8, WALKERTOWN 1
KERNERSVILLE – Bishop McGuinness won all but one doubles match and breezed to an 8-1 Northwest 1A Conference victory over Walkertown on Thursday.
Sam McLaughtry, Ben Jandzinski, Andrew Balogh, Lance Dittrich, Alex Bissell and Adam Chinnasam swept the singles matches for the Villains, who got doubles victories from Jonathan Ingram/Will Shannon and Jessie Russell/Max Kreber.

GOLF

AT WILSHIRE GOLF CLUB
WINSTON-SALEM – Ledford finished with a 159 total and a 9-shot win over North Davidson in non conference action Thursday at Wilshire Golf Club.
Parker Hughes of Ledford shot 2-over-par 38 to take medalist honors. Other counting scorers for the Panthers included Ryan McClellan (39), John Gavin Rhodes (40) and Anthony Bradley (42).

AT OAK VALLEY
ADVANCE – Chase Cranford led the way as Wesleyan cruised to a lopsided victory in a three-team match on Thursday at Oak Valley.
Cranford shot an even-par 36 to earn medalist honors as the Trojans finished with a 164 total. Caldwell was a distant second at 193 and Calvary Baptist third at 202.
Jordan Smith (37), Brad Calloway (40) and Aaron Allred (51) were other counting scorers for Wesleyan.

AT HEMLOCK GOLF CLUB
WALNUT COVE — Bishop McGuinness registred the top four scores in winning a Northwest 1A Conference match Thursday at Hemlock Golf Club.
Tanner Owen, Reilly Erhardt and Zach Shields each shot 34 to tie for medalist honors while Kevin Sowinski added a 36 as the Villains posted a 138 total.
East Surry was second at 153, Mount Airy third  at 171, North Stokes fourth at 182, Atkins fifth at 194 and Walkertown sixth at 230.
