Westchester sweeps Salem Baptist in volleyball

Kayla Watson pounded 10 kills and Terra Johns came up with seven blocks for Westchester Country Day in a 25-18, 25-12, 25-23 sweep of Salem Baptist on Thursday.

The Wildcats trailed 15-4 in the third set before rallying behind the serving of Campbell Kinley and the passing of Miranda Bryson and Leila Abebe.

Westchester improves to 7-1 and faces Durham Trinity on Tuesday.

 

SALISBURY DEF. E. DAVIDSON

THOMASVILLE – Salisbury won the last two sets to defeat East Davidson 23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-13, 15-7 in a five-set Central Carolina 2A thriller on Thursday.

Leaders for East (3-11, 2-4 CCC) were Taylor Moretz 11 kills, Madison Gibson six kills, Maddie Powers eight kills and Taylor McPhatter nine kills

East goes to Thomasville on Tuesday.

 

LEDFORD DEF. S. GUILFORD

SUMNER — Alis Styer had 20 service points that included four aces as Ledford defeated Southern Guilford 25-27, 25-21, 25-14, 25-13 on Thursday.

Other leaders for the Panthers included Sierra Cefali (10 service points, one ace, 11 kills), Siarra Walker (11 kills, five blocks), Tori Farlow (12 service points, two aces), Alyssa Doby (eight service points, two aces, 30 assists).

Ledford (12-2, 8-1 MPC) plays host to Southwest Guilford on Monday.

 

E. RANDOLPH DEF. TRINITY

RAMSEUR — Eastern Randolph bounced back from losing the first set and downed Trinity in four on Thursday. Game scores were 22-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-10.

Trinity (9-6, 3-3) plays host to Wheatmore on Tuesday.

 

WHEATMORE DEF. RANDLEMAN

TRINITY — Wheatmore swept visiting Randleman 25-3, 25-6, 25-13 in a PAC-6 2A match Thursday.

Kelly Davis had 31 assists while Kathryn Johnson and Georgia Garrison each had 11 kills. Allie Grubb also had seven kills while Emily Brown added six aces.

The Warriors (15-1, 6-0 PAC-6) play at Trinity on Tuesday.

 

SW GUILFORD DEF. GLENN

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford rolled past visiting Glenn 25-11, 25-21, 25-19 in a Piedmont Triad 4A Conference match Thursday.

Bri Burgins had 13 kills while Jordan Richmond added seven kills and two digs for the Cowgirls (9-7, 3-3 PTC).

Southwest plays again Monday at Ledford.

 

E. FORSYTH DEF. HP CENTRAL

KERNERSVILLE — East Forsyth topped High Point Central 25-20, 25-21, 31-29 in a Piedmont Triad 4A Conference match Thursday.

The Bison dropped to 1-5 in PTC play.

 

TENNIS

WHEATMORE 8, TRINITY 1

TRINITY – Wheatmore won all but one doubles match and topped rival Trinity 8-1 in a PAC-6 2A match Thursday.

Mary Vecellio, Jordan Myers, Jessica Myers, Olivia Doane, Sydney Peele and Hannah Davis swept the singles matches for the Warriors (14-2, 8-0 PAC-6). The Myers sisters and the team of Brandi Doyle and Kayla Kirk won in doubles.

Wheatmore faces T.W. Andrews on Monday.

 

GRIMSELY 8, HP CENTRAL 1

HIGH POINT – The doubles team of Meredith Field and Bailey Watson posted the only win for High Point Central in a 8-1 nonconference loss to Grimsley on Thursday.

Central (11-4) goes to Glenn on Monday.

 

SW GUILFORD 6, E. FORSYTH 3

KERNERSVILLE — Southwst Guilford won five singles matches in beating East Forsyth 7-2 in a Piedmont Triad 4A Conference match Thursday.

Maggie Jermyn, Sophia Nagy, Catherine Jobe, Hannah Mills and Carley Anne Bullman won in singles for the Cowgirls (6-10, 4-4 PTC). Nagy-Bullman were also victorious in doubles.

Southwest plays again Monday at home against Northwest Guilford.

 

SW RANDOLPH 8. S. GUILFORD 1

SUMNER – Abygail Duquette and Devan Coble won a doubles match for Southern Guilford in a 8-1 loss to Southwestern Randolph on Thursday.

Southern (2-9, 0-9 Mid-Piedmont 3A) goes to Western Guilford on Monday.

 

LEDFORD 9, W. GUILFORD 0

WALLBURG – Taylor Freeman led a string of singles winners for Ledford in a 9-0 sweep of Western Guilford on Thursday. The Panthers improve to 16-0 and 10-0 in the Mid-Piedmont 3A.

Elizabeth Stroup, Erin Crotts, Emma Caroline Russell, Sarah Richardson and Katie Wilson also won in singles for Ledford. Freeman/Stroup, Russell/Crotts and Richardson/Wilson won in doubles.

Ledford goes to Asheboro on Monday.

BURLINGTON  – Sophie Lanham posted the only win for Westchester Country Day in a 5-1 TAC loss to the Burlington School on Thursday.

Westchester drops to 5-6 and plays at Durham Trinity on Monday.

GREENSBORO — Northwest Guilford scored four second-half goals in handing High Point Central a 5-1 loss Thursday evening.

Campbell Locke scored the lone goal off a corner kick for the Bison (8-3, 0-2 Piedmont Triad 4A), who kept the game scoreless until the waning minutes of the first half.

Stephen Smith and Parker Ford split time in goal for Central, which plays again Tuesday at Ragsdale.

 

BISHOP 9, WALKERTOWN 0

KERNERSVILLE — Logan Smith scored three goals and dished one assist in helping lift Bishop McGuinness past visiting Walkertown 9-0 in a Northwest 1A Conference match Thursday.

Andrew Chappelow, John Boyle, Matias Crespo, Arun Kelly-Rajan, Will Webster and Luke Vanore also scored one goal each for the Villains (3-7-1, 2-2 NWC). Jason Standen, Crespo and Andrew Balouh each added an assist.

Bishop outshot Walkertown 15-2 for the game.

 

WESLEYAN 1, FORSYTH CD 1

LEWISVILLE — Wesleyan Christian tied host Forsyth Country Day 1-1 in a PACIS 3A match Thursday.

Drew Mostoller scored the lone goal for the Trojans (13-1-1, 4-1-1 PACIS) off an assist by Kirby Robbins.

Connor Bell made three saves in goal.

Wesleyan plays again this evening at home against Davidson Day.

 

SW GUILFORD 2, RAGSDALE 1

JAMESTOWN — Trent Mayberry score what proved to be the winning goal on a free kick with about 14 minutes to go as Southwest Guilford edged Ragsdale 2-1 in Piedmont Triad 4A play on Thursday.

The game was tied 1-1 before Mayberry scored.

Mitchell Gardner scored the Cowboys first goal after taking a pass from Christian Harrison. Teig Dryden tallied the lone goal for the Tigers on a pass from Raul Gupta. Stratos Pagiavlas grabbed six saves for Southwest while Daniel Kanakanui had 10 for Ragsdale.

Southwest (10-1-2, 1-1 PTC) entertains East Forsyth on Tuesday

KERNERSVILLE — Julia Kane tallied 13 kills and three digs to spark a balanced attack as Bishop McGuinness swept Elkin 25-5, 25-5, 25-15 late Wednesday.

Jessica Brandewie -finished with 25 assists, two aces and two kills for the Villains, while Delaney Findling recorded eight digs and Julia Errington notched four assists, two aces, a dig and a kill. Kim Molen made six kills, an assist and a dig for Bishop, while Julia Brown collected 10 aces, five kills and an ace. Julia Dorosiewicz had eight digs, four aces and two kills for the Villains, while Tia Cappuccio had nine digs, six aces and a kill. Erin Redden registered four digs and Tori Klier made two kills.

EASTERN RANDOLPH 7, T.W. ANDREWS 2

RAMSEUR — Eastern Randolph topped T.W. Andrews 7-2 in PAC-6 2A play late Wednesday.

Hannah Wade won in singles for the Red Raiders (1-13, 1-7), while Hannah Snyder teamed with Wade for a doubles victory.

Andrews plays host to Wheatmore on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

TRINITY 6, WHEATMORE 0

TRINITY — Daniel Newcomer scored two goals as Trinity topped Wheatmore 6-0 late Wednesday.

Eddie Torreblanca added a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs, while Chase Faircloth, Alexi Merida and Mark Grant had a goal apiece. Hunter Dean dished two assists for Trinity.

 

LEDFORD 4, ASHEBORO 0

WALLBURG — Edgar Salinas scored two goals, while Jonathan Vasquez notched a goal and two assists as Ledford blanked Asheboro 4-0 late Wednesday night.

Joe Dixon tallied a goal for the Panthers (5-3-6, 1-3-1 MPC 3A), while Dylan Vandiver and Preston Shoaf had assists. Edgar Deras recorded the shutout in goal with seven saves, assisted on defense by Tyler Dodson, Ed Wright and Alex Molina.

GREENSBORO — Ledford’s Lexi Kershaw earned medalist honors at 1-over 37 as the Panthers defeated Grimsley 121-134 at Starmount Forest Country Club late Wednesday.

Also for the Panthers, Meghan Holbrooks shot 40, Jordan Young 44, Kelsey Leach 45 and Mary Davis 46.
