Wesleyan's girls defeat St. Mary's
Wesleyan Christian rolled past host St. Mary’s 50-23 on Tuesday night.
Anna Massey scored 15 points while Nicole Mackey had 13 to lead the Trojans (2-1), who led 24-11 at halftime.
Ebony Zappone also had eight points.
HIGH POINT CENTRAL BOYS 62, SOUTHERN GUILFORD 46
GREENSBORO — Michal Seals had 21 points and seven rebounds to help lead the High Point Central boys past host Southern Guilford 62-46 in nonconference basketball Tuesday.
Rahmon Barnes also had 12 points, while Trevor Gay and Tucker Bryson each added 110 points. Gay had a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Patrick Connor led Southern with 14 points while Rayshawn Knight added nine.
WESTCHESTER BOYS 73, CALVARY 50
WINSTON-SALEM — The Westchester Country Day boys topped host Calvary Baptist 73-65 in nonconference basketball Tuesday.
Justice Cuthbertson scored 24 points to lead the Wildcats (2-1), who led 30-28 at halftime, while David Ayodele added 17.
Westchester plays again Friday at Asheville Christian.
TRINITY BOYS 67, LEDFORD 45
TRINITY — Jarrod Rogers scored 18 and help Trinity breeze to a 67-45 nonconference victory over Ledford in season-opener for both teams.
Trinity took command, going up by seven after one quarter. Ledford cut it to five at halftime but the Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 38-21 in the second half.
Hunter Osborne added 14 for the Bulldogs while Daniel Newcomer and Zach Brann had 12 each.
LEDFORD GIRLS 47, TRINITY 39
TRINITY — The Ledford girls defeated visiting Trinity 47-39 in nonconference basketball Tuesday.
Courtney Callicutt scored 10 points to lead the Panthers, while Mackenzie Cranford and Jordan Teer followed with nine each. Cranford also had five steals.
Jordan Parker scored 10 points for the Bulldogs while Rachel Hunt added nine. Sage Earnhardt and Casey Davis each added seven.
GLENN BOYS 68, SMITH 64
KERNERSVILLE — Josh Daniels scored 22 points to help lift Glenn past visiting Smith in a nonconference game Tuesday.
Aaron Adair also had 12 points for the Bobcats, who led 33-29 at halftime. Dequan Lee and Marley Pittman each added 10 points.
AT THE ARMFIELD CIVIC CENTER
PILOT MOUNTAIN — Alex Strasser broke the school record for Bishop McGuinness in the 100 butterfly in highlighting the Villains’ sweep of Tuesday’s four-team meet at the Armfield Civic Center.
The Bishop boys won with 162 points, followed by Elkin (61), East Surry (108) and Starmount (8). The girls also won with 127 points, trailed by East Surry (108), Elkin (44) and Starmount (12).
Individual winners for the Villains were: Matthew Hamlet (200 free, 500 free), Sean Gorham (200 IM, 100 breast), Bryan Soltis (50 free, 100 free), Strasser (100 fly) and Grant Davidson (100 back) for the boys; Natalie Hamlet (200 IM, 500 free) and Maria Kammire (50 free) for the girls.
In relays, the Villains’ boys 200 medley (Davidson, Gorham, Strasser, Soltis), boys 200 free (Davidson, David Markun, Joseph Farley, Soltis), boys 400 free (Farley, Charlie Ladka, Jeffery Davidson, Hamlet) and girls 200 medley (Erica Justice, Emily Fiore, Colleen Gillooley, Kammire) also won.
AT KERNERSVILLE YMCA
KERNERSVILLE — The Westchester Country Day boys split their meets while the girls won both of theirs in a three-team head-to-head meet Tuesday in Kernersville.
The boys beat Salem Baptist 75-35, but lost to Forsyth Home Educators 71-47. The girls defeated Salem 91-22 as well as FHE 80-49.
WESLEYAN BOYS 74, W-S PREP 58
HIGH POINT — Theo Pinson scored 29 points and helped lead Wesleyan Christian Academy to a 74-58 win over Winston-Salem Prep on Monday.
JaQuel Richmond added 18 and DeShaunte Carlock added 10. Wesleyan (3-0) travels to Ravenscroft on Friday.
W-S PREP GIRLS 79, WESLEYAN 34
HIGH POINT — Winston-Salem Prep built a 30-point lead by halftime and cruised to a 79-34 victory over Wesleyan on Monday.
