Trojans advance to state soccer semifinals

Kirby Robbins booted both goals as second-seeded Wesleyan Christian Academy edged visiting seventh-seeded Cannon School 2-1 in the NCISAA 3A quarterfinals on Tuesday night.

Matt Owens and J.T. Stevens dished assists for the Trojans (18-3-2), who advance to Friday’s semifinals hosted by Forsyth Country Day. Time and opponent are to be determined. Connor Bell served in goal for WCA.
Cannon finished 11-5-3.

HP CENTRAL 2, GLENN 1
KERNERSVILLE — Stephen Smith made 19 saves as High Point Central edged Glenn 2-1 in Piedmont Triad 4A Conference action late Tuesday.
Scott Poston scored a goal and dished an assist for the Bison (12-6, 4-5), while Carlos Murillo had a goal and Ryan Eskew dished an assist.
Central plays host to Southwest Guilford for Senior Night on Thursday at 7 p.m.

NORTHWEST GUILFORD 1, SOUTHWEST GUILFORD 0
HIGH POINT — Northwest Guilford nipped Southwest Guilford 1-0 in Piedmont 4A Conference action late Tuesday.
Kyle Shina made nine saves for the Cowboys (14-4-2, 5-4), who got strong defensive play from seniors Andrew Gullickson and Brian Jobe on Senior Night.
Southwest plays High Point Central at High Point Athletic Complex today at 7 p.m.

EAST FORSYTH 3, RAGSDALE 0
JAMESTOWN — East Forsyth blanked Ragsdale 3-0 in Piedmont Triad 4A Conference action late Tuesday.
Danie Kanakanui made seven saves in goal for the Tigers, while John Matto had one save for Ragsdale.

WHEATMORE DEF. FAIRMONT
TRINITY — Wheatmore swept Fairmont 25-7, 25-4, 25-13 in the second round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs on Tuesday.
The Warriors, top seed from the PAC-6, improved to 24-1. Fairmont, seeded second from the Three Rivers, finished 18-4.
Wheatmore plays host to Carrboro for a third-round match on Thursday.
Kelly Davis sparked the Warriors with 37 assists, 18 service points, three aces and a block, while Kathryn Johnson tallied 21 kills, seven service points, two digs and two aces. Georgia Garrison notched 12 kills, four service points, three digs and an ace for Wheatmore, while Davey Alberton added six kills and four blocks and Allie Grubb recorded five kills and three blocks. Emily Brown collected 11 service points, three kills, two aces, a dig and a block for the Warriors, while Casey Hawkins had six service points, four digs and three aces, Kelly McCrary had eight service points and three aces and Morgan Leonard had a kill.

MOUNT GILEAD — Bishop McGuinness swept West Montgomery in three games in the second round of the NCHSAA 1A playoffs on Tuesday night.
The Villains, seeded third from the Northwest, improved to 17-5). West, top seed from the Yadkin Valley East, finished 20-7.
Jessica Brandewie led a balanced Villain attack with 16 assists, 14 digs, seven kills and five aces, while Julie Dorosiewicz recorded 25 digs, 10 kills and two aces. Julia Brown tallied 20 digs, 16 kills and six aces for Bishop, while Olivia Bunemann dished 10 assists with six digs and Tia Cappuccio recorded 25 digs. Julia Errington dished six assists with a dig.

HILLSBOROUGH — Cedar Ridge swept Ledford in three games in the second round of the NCHSAA 3A playoffs on Tuesday.
Cedar Ridge, seeded second from the Big Eight, improved to 22-27. The Panthers, seeded third from the Mid-Piedmont, finished 17-8.

PROVIDENCE DAY DEF. WESLEYAN
CHARLOTTE — Eighth-seeded Providence Day School topped ninth-seeded Wesleyan Christian Academy 25-20, 26-24, 25-22 in the first round of the NCISAA 3A volleyball playoffs late Tuesday.
PDS improved to 18-15. The Trojans finished the season 21-12.

CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN DEF. HPCA
CHARLOTTE — Seventh-seeded Charlotte Christian downed 10th-seeded High Point Christian Academy in three games in the first round of the NCISAA 3A volleyball playoffs late Tuesday.
Charlotte Christian improved to 18-10. The Cougars ended the season 13-15.

BISHOP 5, COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF DAVIDSON 1
DAVIDSON — Bishop McGuinness cruised past Community School of Davidson 5-1 in the second round of the NCHSAA 1A dual-team playoffs on Tuesday.
Morgan Auger, Anna Owen, Adaire Hudson, Anna Petrangeli and Nicole Saia prevailed in singles for the Villains (13-2), seed second from the Northwest 1A. CCD was the top seed from the Southern Piedmont.
The doubles matches were not played as they did not impact the final result.
Bishop advances to play Graystone Day in a third-round match on Monday at 4 p.m. at Pfeiffer University.

TRINITY 6, PROVIDENCE GROVE 1
CLIMAX — Hunter Dean and Alex Garrison each had a goal and assist in helping lift Trinity past host Providence Grove 6-1 in PAC-6 2A action Monday.
Daniel Newcomer, Jonathan Adkins, Matthew Cox and Josue Jimenez also scored for the Bulldogs (16-3, 9-0), while Alex Sedano had three assists. Chase Faircloth also played well defensively.
Trinity plays again today at home against T.W. Andrews.

WHEATMORE 5, T.W. ANDREWS 0
HIGH POINT — Kyle Mosley scored three goals to lead Wheatmore in a 5-0 win against host T.W. Andrews in a PAC-6 2A match Monday.
Lauren Zimmerman also had a goal and an assist, while Ty Miller added a goal, and Joey Traynham had an assist for the Warriors, who improved to 4-5 in the conference. Sam Becker and Alex Vertefeuille split time in goal.
Wheatmore plays again today at Eastern Randolph.

LEDFORD 3, ASHEBORO 1
ASHEBORO — Jonathan Umberger, Kevin Mogollon and Ahren Rau scored goals as Ledford topped Asheboro 3-1 in Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference action.
Ed Wright, Rau and Preston Shoaf dished assists for the Panthers (9-8-4, 5-4-2), who play host to Southwestern Randolph today.
