McKinney: Quick Hitter

It may be a stretch, but I like to call the Daytona 500 the T.W. Andrews-High Point Central football game of stock-car racing.

My tongue is only slightly in cheek, but think about it.

The NASCAR Cup season kicks off with the Daytona 500, undoubtably the biggest race of the year.

As for the Red Raiders and Bison, they’ve met in week one of the high school regular season for many years now.

Rivalries in town don’t come any bigger.

The Andrews-Central showdown at Simeon Stadium set for 7:30 p.m. highlights a busy night of lid-lifting tilts.

Other games involving area schools find Southwest Guilford at Rockingham County; High Point Christian Academy at Village Christian; North Moore at Trinity; Wheatmore at Bartlett Yancey; Glenn at Parkland; West Davidson at Ledford; East Davidson at South Davidson; Thomasville at North Davidson; Southern Guilford at Eastern Guilford; Ragsdale at Grimsley and Bishop McGuinness at Community School of Davidson Charter (played at North Mecklenburg High School).

It should make for some great gridiron action.

As the world keeps moving faster and faster, deadlines come earlier and earlier.

That’s especially true in the newspaper business.

So Saturday morning print readers will want to be sure to check to get stories, photos and more from the Friday night contests.

And look for our traditional all-out blitz of prep coverage each and every Sunday.

I’m definitely ready for some football!
