Warriors tennis rolls past East Davidson
Wheatmore swept the doubles matches to finish off a 7-2 victory over visiting East Davidson in nonconference action on Tuesday.
Stephanie Fortner, Mary Vecellio, Jessica Myers and Olivia Doane won singles matches for the Warriors (2-0). Jordan Myers and Jessica Myers, Vecellio and Fortner, and Doane and Hannah Davis teamed for the doubles wins.
Wheatmore plays host to Asheboro on Thursday.
HIGH POINT CENTRAL 6, WESTERN GUILFORD 3
HIGH POINT – High Point Central opened with a 6-3 win against visiting Western Guilford on Tuesday.
Aly Wilcox, Eva Ellenburg, Emily Adams and Rachel Shelton won in singles for the Bison (1-0), while Wilcox-Kristen Biddle and Meredith Field-Bailey Weston won in doubles.
Central plays again Thursday at home against Southern Guilford at 4:30 p.m.
R.J. REYNOLDS 6, SOUTHWEST GUILFORD 3
WINSTON-SALEM — R.J. Reynolds won all six singles matches en route to beating visiting Southwest Guilford 6-3 in its opener Tuesday.
The Cowgirls (0-1), however, bounced back with three solid doubles wins by Erin Shelton-Maggie Jermyn, Catherine Jobe-Hannah Mills and Vy Bui-Stephanie Ajibola, coach Keith Murphy said.
Southwest plays against Thursday at T.W. Andrews at 4:30 p.m.
SOUTHERN GUILFORD DEF. HIGH POINT CENTRAL
SUMNER — Southern Guilford rallied to beat visiting High Point Central 20-25, 25-17, 25-9, 25-21 on Tuesday.
Taylor Creed helped lead the Storm (2-0) with 18 kills and six aces. Alex Blackburn had 10 kills and five aces.
The Bison were led by Caroline Fuchs with 20 digs and Ashley McDonald with seven kills.
Central plays again today at Asheboro, with the JV starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity to follow. Southern goes to Ragsdale on Thursday.
NORTH DAVIDSON DEF. EAST DAVIDSON
LEXINGTON — North Davidson swept visiting East Davidson 25-12, 25-18, 25-23 on Tuesday.
Taylor Moretz had four kills and four blocks for the Golden Eagles (0-1), while Taylor McPhatter had three kills and four blocks.
East plays again Saturday in the Davidson County Tournament at West Davidson.
RAGSDALE DEF. FORBUSH
JAMESTOWN – In its first game in the school's new gym, Ragsdale swept visiting Forbush 26-24, 25-21, 25-21 on Tuesday.
Bojo Jada had 11 kills, five blocks and five digs to lead the Tigers (2-0), who also swept Page 3-0 on Monday. Mikayla Pettyjohn also added six kills, five blocks and seven digs.
Ragsdale plays again Thursday at home against Southern Guilford, with the match time changed to 6:30 p.m. for the JV and the varsity to follow.
BISHOP DEF. DAVIE
KERNERSVILLE — Bishop held on to win the fifth set and edge visiting Davie 26-24, 25-22, 25-27, 22-25, 15-5 on Tuesday.
Julia Brown had 15 kills to lead the Villains while Julie Dorosiewicz added 13 and Julia Kane had 11. Jessica Brandewie also had 27 assists while Olivia Bunemann had 21. Brandewie, Kane and Tia Cappuccio each added two aces.
Bishop plays again Thursday at Elkin at 6:15 p.m.
WESLEYAN 6, LEXINGTON 1
HIGH POINT – Kirby Robbins scored four goals and Andrew Moebius added two as Wesleyan Christian topped visiting Lexington 6-1 on Tuesday.
Drew Mostoller had two assists while Matt Owens, Robbins, Casper Robbins and Will Guffey had one each.
Connor Bell grabbed two saves in goal for the Trojans, who improved to 3-0 and return to action in a showcase event on Saturday at Byran Park in Greensboro.
WESTCHESTER 3, CALVARY BAPTIST 1
WINSTON-SALEM — Paul Sybrecht put Westchester on the board in the first minute and the Wildcats went on to a 3-1 victory over host Calvary Baptist on Tuesday.
Sybrecht scored again later and Sam Argo also provided a goal of the Wildcats (1-1). Argo and Ryeong Choi had assists. Cameron White grabbed three saves in goal.
Westchester plays host to New Garden Friends on Friday.
R.J. REYNOLDS 4, BISHOP McGUINNESS 2
WINSTON-SALEM — Bishop McGuinness fell 4-2 against R.J. Reynolds in the first round of the Forsyth County Invitational.
AT MEADOWLANDS GOLF CLUB
WALLBURG — Ledford posted five of the top six scores to defeat Northern Guilford 122-143 on Tuesday at Meadowlands Golf Club.
Alexis Kershaw was medalist with a 37, followed by teammate Meghan Holbrooks with a 41 in second, Julia Carroll with a 44 in fourth, Jordan Young and Mary Davis each shot a 50 to tie for fifth.
BISHOP DEF. R.J. REYNOLDS
WINSTON-SALEM — Bishop McGuinness defeated R.J. Reynolds 25-9, 25-16, 25-12 in the season opener for both schools Monday.
Julie Dorosiewicz led the Villains with 10 kills, while Julia Brown added nine, Julia Kane seven and Jessica Brandewie five.
Olivia Bunemann dished 25 assists for Bishop, while Brandewie had 20. Brandewie served five aces, while Erin Redden had two.
N. MOORE DEF. THOMASVILLE
ROBBINS — North Moore eked out two close wins and pulled away for a third in defeating Thomasville 25-23, 25-20, 25-16 on Monday.
Christina Coleman and Jashana Thomas each had two kills and a block, while Kaitlyn Johnson had three aces and played well in the setting game, and Lisa Burgess and Shakemia Matthews contributed on the back row.
The Bulldogs play again Wednesday at home against Dudley.
