HP Central prevails in wrestling opener
High Point Central topped Southern Guilford 46-36 in the wrestling season-opener for both teams Wednesday.
Winners for the Bison included Mike Hairston (106, forfeit), Connor Sutphin (113, forfeit), Mark Hairston (120, forfeit), Matthew Verde (132, forfeit), Kyle Rogers (138, pin), Luke Beane (145, major decision), Jacob Freeman (170, forfeit) and Luis Soldierna (220, pin).

BISCOE — Thomasville opened the season with two impressing wins Wednesday night, slamming Greensboro Smith 69-12 and pinning host East Montgomery 59-11.
Winner against Smith were Ray-Shum Moore (106), Hygee Martin (113), Jason Boutsady (120), Ashan Butt (126), Corbin Wilson (132), Khree Colson (138), Trevor Billie (145), Brett Hokenson (152), Evan Makupson (160), Felix Fernandez (170), Anthony Bersano (195) and Tyberous Ivory (heavyweight).
Winner against East Montgomery included Trey-von Moore (106), Martin (113), Boutsady (120), Butt (126), Wilson (132), Colson (145), Hokenson (152), Makupson (160), Fernandez (170), Nico Weeman (182), Bersano (220) and Ivory (hevyweight).
The Bulldogs return to action in the Wheatmore Duals on Saturday at Wheatmore.
BISHOP 79, RIVER MILL 46
KERNERSVILLE — Four players finished with double-figure scoring in a solid all-around performance for Bishop McGuinness in a 79-46 win Wednesday against visiting River Mill.
Spencer Wilson had 19 points to lead the Villains (1-0), who led 44-20 at hlaftime, while Carlos Simmons had 17, and Logan Weather and Nick Efird each had 12.
Wilson also had seven assists while Efird had five for Bishop, which totaled 24 as a team.
The Villains play again Monday at home against Union Grove.
AT CHATHAM CENTRAL
TRINITY 48, S. LEE 36
PITTSBORO — Trinity took eight matches and edged Southern Lee 48-36 on Tuesday.
Winners for the Bulldogs were Cameron Barney (120, pin), Austin Minish (126, pin), Robert Reid (145, pin), Dalton Morris (152, pin), Jaren Davenport (160, pin), A.J. Patron (170, pin), Yogeshwar Sookdeo (285, pin) and Tyler Johnson (106, forfeit).
CHATHAM CENTRAL 53, TRINITY 9
PITTSBORO – Trinity won just three matches and fell to Chatham Central 53-9 on Tuesday.
Winners for Trinity included Robert Reid (145, decision), Dalton Morris (152, decision) and Jared Davenport (160, decision).
