Ledford swimmers perform well at regionals

Ledford’s boys finished fifth and the girls placed eighth in the NCHSAA 3A Eastern Regional meet in Cary at the Triangle Aquatic Center that ended late Saturday.
The Panther boys recorded 120 points in the 29-team field, while the girls tallied 97 in the 29-team field.
The top 12 finishers at regionals qualify for the NCHSAA 3A Championships set for Friday at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.
For Ledford’s boys, Gage Setzer placed second in the 200 IM and second in the 100 fly, while Nick Gomez secured sixth in the 100 back and 11th in the 100 fly. Carson Apple took ninth in the 100 breast.
The Panthers boys also performed well in the relays. Apple, Setzer, Gomez, Jackson Somers earned fifth in the 200 medley and 200 free, while Apple, Somers, Dwight Hilton and Trent Hayworth took 16th in the 400 free relay.
For Ledford’s girls, Caroline Klemme notched fourth in 500 free and fourth in the 100 back. Lexi Kershaw was 10th in the 100 back and 11th in the 100 free. Erica Hartzell was 15th in the 100 fly.
In girls relay action, Klemme, Kershaw, Hartzell and Leah Webster took seventh in the 200 medley and fifth in the 400 free.
