Trinity soccer tops Wheatmore
TRINITY 6, WHEATMORE 0
TRINITY — Daniel Newcomer scored two goals as Trinity topped Wheatmore 6-0 late Wednesday.
Eddie Torreblanca added a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs, while Chase Faircloth, Alexi Merida and Mark Grant had a goal apiece. Hunter Dean dished two assists for Trinity.
LEDFORD 4, ASHEBORO 0
WALLBURG — Edgar Salinas scored two goals, while Jonathan Vasquez notched a goal and two assists as Ledford blanked Asheboro 4-0 on Wednesday night.
Joe Dixon tallied a goal for the Panthers (5-3-6), while Dylan Vandiver and Preston Shoaf had assists. Edgar Deras recorded the shutout in goal with seven saves, assisted on defense by Tyler Dodson, Ed Wright and Alex Molina.
AT SW GUILFORD
HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford’s boys and girls posted victories over East Forsyth on Wednesday.
The Cowboys won the boys race 22-37 and took the girls race 19-41.
The Cowboys swept the top two positions, with Zach Patel winning in 17:48 followed by Nolan Patrick in 17:52. Southwest’s Cory Burns placed fourth in 18:05, with teammate Matt Hawn seventh in 19:13, Peyton Kunder eighth in 19:25, Connor Ayers ninth in 19:35 and William Hasinger 10th in 19:47.
The Cowgirls’ Carmen Davis won the girls race in 20:41, with teammates Kostantina Sarrimanol (22:00), Claudia Lugo (22:17), Mollie Gross (22:40) and Kylie Jones (23:04) third through sixth, respectively. Southwest’s Sujata Chhetri placed eighth in 23:42 with the Cowgirls’ Megan Shina 10th in 24:08.
AT HP CENTRAL
HIGH POINT — High Point Central’s Tofik Gebre won the boys race in 19:07, while Sue Griffin of the Bison took the girls race in 22:10 in cross-country action at Sandy Ridge Road on Wednesday.
Ragsdale’s boys defeated Central 22-33. The Tiger girls did not post a team score.
For the Tiger boys, Cameron Pope placed second in 19:39, with teammate Hunter Whipple third in 20:14, Brendan Ham fourth in 20:45, Blanton Stamey sixth in 21:54 and Cadin Garvey seventh in 22:09.
For the Bison boys, Riley Anderson took fifth in 21:46, with Ryan Anderson eighth in 22:22, Ben Martin ninth in 22:57, Nick Nardi 10th in 22:59 and Harman Bains 11th in 24:06.
Also for the Bison girls, Kiana Scott placed third in 25:31, with Mary Grace Martin fourth in 25:36, Emma Schram fifth in 25:38, Madelyn Ring sixth in 26:17, Christina Verdi seventh in 26:50, Eliza Fisher eighth in 27:04, Julia Blackburn ninth in 28:25 and Carly Malcolm 10th in 28:28.
For the Tiger girls, Kelly McCain took second in 23:44, with Maia Johnson 12th in 29:06, Meleah Riddle 13th in 29:08 and Symone Stanley 14th in 31:11.
TRINITY — The Wheatmore boys and girls won their races against visiting T.W. Andrews on Wednesday.
The boys, who took 11 of the top 12 spots, finished with 17 points, ahead of the Red Raiders’ 46. The girls, who had 12 in the top 13, totaled 15 points. Andrews did not have a team score.
Jeremiah Monroe led the Warrior boys in 18 minutes, 57.02 seconds, followed by Madison Fountain in second in 19:56.45. Ian York (third, 21:06.19) and Adam Davis (fifth, 22:57.02) also finished in the top five.
Alexis Rowell won the girls races for Wheatmore in 25:06.00, followed by Katherine Cromer (second, 25:45), Jennifer Williams (third, 27:10), Payton Moore (fourth, 27:53) and Shelby Monroe (fifth, 28:00).
The top finisher for the Andrews boys was Evan Carter in fourth in 21:16.56 and for the girls was Liuya Evans in seventh in 29:53.
RANDLEMAN — Randleman’s boys and girls downed Trinity on Wednesday.
The Tiger boys prevailed 15-50, while the girls won 21-40.
Randleman’s boys took the top 13 positions, led by overall winner Trevor Deaton in 17:28.
For the Bulldog boys, Chase Nicks placed 14th in 20:20, with Tyler Johnson 20th in 21:13, Lincoln Thomas 21st in 21:19, Daniel Sanford 22nd in 21:30 and Andrew Wantuch 24th in 22:54.
For the Tiger girls, Kaleigh Burrow won in 20:44 with teammate Karla Valles second in 20:58.
For Trinity’s girls, Katelyn Kropelnicki was third in 20:59, with Reece Frank fourth in 21:51, Kara McDaniel 16th in 28:02, Mary Cuthbertson 19th in 30:14 and Jennifer Vo 21st in 32:07.
LEDFORD DEF. WEST DAVIDSON
WALLBURG — Alyssa Doby dished 24 assists with eight service points and an ace as Ledford defeated West Davidson 25-13, 25-19, 25-17 on Wednesday.
Sierra Walker recorded eight kills and five blocks for the Panthers (12-2).
In the junior varsity match, Ledford won 25-10, 25-21 behind Gabbi Plumez’ 15 service points and five aces and Audrey Inthisane’s 11 service points and two aces.
BISHOP DEF. ELKIN
KERNERSVILLE — Julia Kane tallied 13 kills and three digs to spark a balanced attack as Bishop McGuinness swept Elkin 25-5, 25-5, 25-15 late Wednesday.
Jessica Brandewie -finished with 25 assists, two aces and two kills for the Villains, while Delaney Findling recorded eight digs and Julia Errington notched four assists, two aces, a dig and a kill. Kim Molen made six kills, an assist and a dig for Bishop, while Julia Brown collected 10 aces, five kills and an ace. Julia Dorosiewicz had eight digs, four aces and two kills for the Villains, while Tia Cappuccio had nine digs, six aces and a kill. Erin Redden registered four digs and Tori Klier made two kills.
WHEATMORE 7, PROVIDENCE GROVE 2
TRINITY — Wheatmore won five of six singles matches to cruise past visiting Providence Grove 7-2 Wednesday to remain undefeated in PAC-6 2A play.
Mary Vecellio, Stephanie Fortner, Jordan Myers, Jessica Myers and Olivia Doane won in singles for the Warriors (13-2 overall). Vecellio-Fortner and Myers-Myers were victorious in doubles.
Wheatmore plays again today at Trinity.
RAGSDALE 6, HP CENTRAL 3
HIGH POINT – Ragsdale topped host High Point Central 6-3 Wednesday to move the two teams into a tie for second in the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference.
Maggie Lawrence, Abby DeBerry, Latham Childress and Madison Harmon were victorious in singles for the Tigers, while DeBerry-Mina Akbari and Lawrence-Harmon won in doubles.
Evan Ellenburg and Meredith Field were singles winners for the Bison (11-3, 5-3 PTC). Emily Adams-Bailey Weston won in doubles.
Central plays again today at home against Grimsley.
RANDLEMAN 5, TRINITY 4
TRINITY — Randleman edged host Trinity 5-4 in a PAC-6 2A contest Wednesday.
Catherine Ryu, Carla Rodriguez and Izabella Martinez won in singles for the Bulldogs (0-12). Savannah Woolard and Rodriguez won in doubles.
Trinity hosts Wheatmore today.
LEDFORD 7, C. DAVIDSON 1
WALLBURG — Ledford won five singles matches to roll past visiting Central Davidson 7-1 in a Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference match Wednesday.
Taylor Freeman, Erin Crotts, Emma Caroline Russell, Sarah Richardson and Katie Wilson were victorious in singles for the Panthers (15-0). Freeman-
Mackenzie Cranford and Crotts-Russell also won in doubles. The No. 3 match wasn’t completed due to rain.
Ledford plays again this afternoon at home against Western Guilford.
EASTERN RANDOLPH 7, T.W. ANDREWS 2
RAMSEUR — Eastern Randolph topped T.W. Andrews 7-2 in PAC-6 2A play late Wednesday.
Hannah Wade won in singles for the Red Raiders (1-13, 1-7), while Hannah Snyder teamed with Wade for a doubles victory.
Andrews plays host to Wheatmore on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
PTC 4A MATCH AT RIVER LANDING
HIGH POINT — Ragsdale’s Jolinna Ellis earned medalist honors with an even-par 35 in Wednesday’s Piedmont Triad 4A Conference match at River Landing.
Northwest Guilford won with 133, followed by Ragsdale at 137, Glenn at 142, High Point Central at 143, Southwest Guilford at 146 and East Forsyth at 150.
Also for Ragsdale, Brooke Fields shot 43 and Alexis Shuttle 59.
For the Bison, Lauren Giles carded 44, Ashlyn Day shot 48 and Lizzie Smith carded 51.
For the Cowgirls, Sarah Phalen shot 42, Madison Harriman 50 and Michael Brooks 54.
For Glenn, Taylor Strassburg shot 44, Savannah Gilbert recorded 47 and Sierra Hurley had 51.
The next PTC 4A match is Monday at Oak Hollow.

GREENSBORO — Ledford’s Lexi Kershaw earned medalist honors at 1-over 37 as the Panthers defeated Grimsley 121-134 at Starmount Forest Country Club late Wednesday.
Also for the Panthers, Meghan Holbrooks shot 40, Jordan Young 44, Kelsey Leach 45 and Mary Davis 46.
NW GUILFORD 3, RAGSDALE 1
JAMESTOWN — Ryan Blaya scored the only goal for Ragsdale in a 3-1 Piedmont Triad 4A loss to Northwest Guilford on Tuesday.
Tanner Shumate assisted on Blaya’s goal, and keeper Daniel Kanakanui snared 11 saves.
MOUNT AIRY 3, BISHOP 1
KERNERSVILLE — Arun Kelley-Rajan got the only goal for Bishop in a 3-1 loss to Mount Airy on Tuesday.
Ben Chappelow grabbed seven saves for the Villains, who dropped to 2-7-1 and 1-2 in the Northwest 1A.
E. FORSYTH 4, HP CENTRAL 1
KERNERSVILLE — East Forsyth scored three first-half goals in beating visiting High Point Central 4-1 to open Piedmont Triad 4A Conference play Tuesday.
Ryan Eskew scored the lone goal for the Bison (8-2, 0-1 PTC) off an assist by Carlos Murillo. Stephen Smith was in goal for Central.
The Bison play again Thursday at Northwest Guilford at 7 p.m.
GLENN 1, SW GUILFORD 0
HIGH POINT — Glenn scored on a penalty kick with about 10 minutes left to defeat host Southwest Guilford 1-0 in its Piedmont Triad 4A Conference opener Tuesday.
Kyle Shina made eight saves in goal for the Cowboys (9-1-2, 0-1 PTC), who play again Thursday at Ragsdale at 7 p.m.
WHEATMORE DEF. E. RANDOLPH
TRINITY — Kathryn Johnson broke the school record for career kills as Wheatmore defeated visiting Eastern Randolph 25-10, 25-22, 25-9 on Tuesday.
Johnson finished with 13 kills to move past Courtney Rains, who had 885, to move her total to 893. She also totaled six digs for the Warriors (14-1 overall, 5-0 PAC-6 2A).
Kelly Davis had 30 assists, while Georgia Garrison had nine kills and six digs. Davey Albertson also had seven kills, while Casey Hawkins had five digs.
Wheatmore plays again Thursday at home against Randleman.
THOMASVILLE DEF. LEXINGTON
LEXINGTON — Alexus Belson had 24 service points and Shakemia Matthews slammed 19 to help Thomasville to a five-set victory over Lexington on Tuesday. Games scores were 22-25, 25-16. 25-17. 17-25, 15-7.
It was the first Central Carolina Conference victory of the season for the Bulldogs (1-5).
Nelson delivered eight aces and Matthews had one ace and two kills. Jazyme Bowden had four kills and five blocks. Lisa Burgess dealt 13 service points while Joshana Thomas added 15 service points and nine kills.

HIGH POINT — Shay Felder, Noelle Walker and Erin Hodges each had 10 service points and an ace to help Trinity sweep PAC-6 2A foe T.W. Andrews on Tuesday. Game scores were 25-18, 25-19, 25-13.
Michaela Watkins had five kills and a block for the Bulldogs (9-5, 3-2 PAC-6) while Peyton O’Hara added three kills and four blocks.
