HP Christian turns back Calvary, 4-1, in soccer

Joe Severs scored two goals and Grant Olosso and Clint Lee had one each as High Point Christian topped Calvary Baptist 4-1 on Tuesday.

Casey Penland had two assist and Zack Hamilton one for the Cougards (4-10, 2-4 PACIS). Chantz Sawyers and Damien Jenkins cemented the victory in goal.

 

WESTCHESTER 7, BURLINGTON CHRISTIAN 0

HIGH POINT – Baxter Bruggeworth scored two goals and assisted on two others to help lead Westchester to a 7-0 win over Burlington Christian on Tuesday.

Tommy Boggis, Ryeong Choi, Hunter Heinbach,, Daniel Ogden and Sam Argo added a goal each for the Wildcats (7-4, 4-3 TAC), Tommy Frungillo, Garrett Williard abd Boggis each had an assist.

Cameron White grabbed four saves while registering his third straight shutout in goal.

Westchester plays host to SalemBaptist on “Black Out Night” Friday.

 

GREENSBORO DAY 1, WESLEYAN 0

GREENSBORO – Wesleyan suffered its first loss of the year Tuesday, falling to Greensboro Day 1-0.

Wesleyan (13-1, 4-1 PACIS) goes to Forsyth Country Day on Thursday.

 

E. FORSYTH 4, HP CENTRAL 1

KERNERSVILLE — East Forsyth scored three first-half goals in beating visiting High Point Central 4-1 to open Piedmont Triad 4A Conference play Tuesday.

Ryan Eskew scored the lone goal for the Bison (8-2, 0-1 PTC) off an assist by Carlos Murillo. Stephen Smith was in goal for Central.

The Bison play again Thursday at Northwest Guilford at 7 p.m.

 

GLENN 1, SW GUILFORD 0

HIGH POINT — Glenn scored on a penalty kick with about 10 minutes left to defeat host Southwest Guilford 1-0 in its Piedmont Triad 4A Conference opener Tuesday.

Kyle Shina made eight saves in goal for the Cowboys (9-1-2, 0-1 PTC), who play again Thursday at Ragsdale at 7 p.m.

 

TENNIS

BISHOP 9, ATKINS 0

KERNERSVILLE – Bishop McGuinness swept visiting Atkins 9-0 on Tuesday.

Kyndall Cortes, Morgan Auger, Nicole Saia, Lauren Andrysick and Kristen Bellas won singles matches for the Villains. A. Hudson and A. Petrangeli teamed for one ddoubles win and Melanie Vynalek and Grace Demers took the other.

Bishop (9-1) won a singles match and a doulbes match by default.

 

LEXINGTON 9, T.W. ANDREWS 0

LEXINGTON – Lexington swept Andrews 9-0 on Tuesday. The Red Raiders (1-12) go to Eastern Randolph today.

WESLEYAN DEF. GREENSBORO DAY

GREENSBORO – Wesleyan swept Greensboro Day 25-13, 25-13, 25-11 to improve to 5-0 in the PACIS on Tuesday.

Leaders for the Trojans included Amanda Connette (seven digs, nine kills), Taylor Bouras (nine kills) and Anna Rollins (seven aces, seven digs)

Wesleyan (10-3) plays host to Davidson Day on Thursday.

 

CALVARY BAPTIST DEF. HP CHRISTIAN

HIGH POINT – Calvary Baptist came from a set down to defeat High Point Christian 25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11 on Tuesday.

Leaders for HPCA were Sydney Rowan (31 kills, 21 digs), Caroline Phipps (12 digs), Olivia wen (12 digs, four kills) and Rachel Cox (50 assists, 13 digs).

HPCA drops to 11-11, 4-2 PACIS.

 

WHEATMORE DEF. E. RANDOLPH

TRINITY — Kathryn Johnson broke the school record for career kills as Wheatmore defeated visiting Eastern Randolph 25-10, 25-22, 25-9 on Tuesday.

Johnson finished with 13 kills to move past Courtney Rains, who had 885, and now has 893. She also totaled six digs for the Warriors (14-1 overall, 5-0 PAC-6 2A).

Kelly Davis had 30 assists, while Georgia Garrison had nine kills and six digs. Davey Albertson also had seven kills, while Casey Hawkins had five digs.

Wheatmore plays again Thursday at home against Randleman.

GREENSBORO – Southwest Guilford finished second in a tri-match on Tuesday at Bryan Park’s Players course.

Page finished first with a 120, followed by the Cowgirls (162) and Grimsley (179)

Leading scorers for Southwest were Sarah Phelan (43), Madison Harriman (58) and Mary Kate Purcell (61).

HIGH POINT — Bri Burgins recorded 15 kills and three blocks as Southwest Guilford topped Western Guilford 25-17, 25-18, 25-27, 25-16 late Monday.

Meredith Stringfellow tallied 10 kills and five blocks for the Cowgirls (7-7, 1-3 PTC 4A), while Abigayle Gardner had 14 assists and six aces.

 

WHEATMORE DEF. CENTRAL DAVIDSON

LEXINGTON — Kelly Davis dished 38 assists and Kathryn Johnson collected 13 kills and four digs as Wheatmore defeated Central Davidson 25-17, 25-12, 25-21 late Monday.

Georgia Garrison tallied 10 kills, three aces and three digs for the Warriors (13-1). Emily Brown made eight kills, while Allie Grubb notched five kills and four blocks, Davey Albertson had five kills and three blocks and Casey Hawkins had four digs and a kill for Wheatmore.

 

REAGAN DEF. WESLEYAN

HIGH POINT — Reagan nipped Wesleyan Christian Academy 25-13, 27-25, 25-23 late Monday.

Brittney Goodson recorded 12 digs and six kills for the Trojans (9-3). Amanda Connette finished with 15 kills for WCA, while Gracie Bulla tallied seven kills and six digs, Taylor Pietranozzi had 27 digs and Kelly Corn dished 27 assists.

 

SOUTH STOKES DEF. BISHOP

WALNUT COVE — South Stokes outlasted Bishop McGuinness for a 14-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 15-13 win late Monday.

Jessica Brandewie finished with 38 assists, seven kills and four aces for the Villains. Julia Brown tallied 18 kills, two aces and an assist for Bishop, while Julia Kane recorded 12 kills. Julie Dorosiewicz notched 11 kills, an ace and an assist for the Villains, while Julia Errington had three assists and two kills and Tia Cappuccio had an ace and an assist.

 

ASHEBORO DEF. TRINITY

ASHEBORO — Asheboro downed Trinity 25-14, 25-15, 25-15 late Monday.

The Bulldogs fell to 8-5, 2-2 in conference.

LEXINGTON — Central Davidson topped Southern Guilford 6-3 late Monday.

Avion Harris and Abygail Duquette won in singles for the Storm (2-9, 0-8 MPC 3A). Devan Coble-Duquette prevailed in doubles.

Southern plays host to Southwestern Randolph on Thursday.

 

RAGSDALE 6, SW GUILFORD 3

JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale stopped Southwest Guilford 6-3 in Piedmont Triad 4A action late Monday.

Maggie Lawrence, Abby DeBerry, Mina Akbari and Madison Harmon won in singles for the Tigers. Deberry/Akbari and Lawrence-Harmon prevailed in doubles.

For the Cowgirls, Hannah Mills and Carley Anne Bullman netted singles victories. Sophia Nagy-Bullman posted a doubles win.

HIGH POINT — Carl Druebbisch scored as Southwest Guilford battled Mount Tabor to a 1-1 draw late Monday.

Kyle Shina made five saves in goal for the Cowboys (9-0-2).

TRINITY – Daniel Newcomer scored three goals and Alex Merida added one for Trinity in a 4-1 win over Easter Randolph on Monday. Jonathan Adkins added one assist.
