East boys takes down Ledford
This time, things weren’t so close.
The East Davidson Golden Eagles took down the Ledford Panthers 59-31 Friday night.
The win improves the Golden Eagles to 2-5 on the season and drops Ledford to 4-3 this year. It was also East Davidson’s first road win of the season.
On Nov 30, the Panthers beat the Golden Eagles 54-51 at East Davidson. This time the Golden Eagles were more prepared.
“We played a lot better defensively this game than last time,” said Golden Eagles coach Mark Jacobs. “That’s something we’ve been working on since then.”
East Davidson’s defense forced Ledford to commit 18 turnovers for the game, 13 of which came in the second half.
The Golden Eagles also held the Panthers to 33-percent shooting from the field for the game. East shot 56-percent from the field.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles outscored the Panthers 31-10. East Davidson pulled away with a 13-0 run to start the fourth quarter, giving them a 51-29 lead. The Panthers came no closer than eight points for the remainder of the game.
The Golden Eagles led 28-21 at the half. Booze had nearly half of the team’s points at halftime with 13. Booze also scored the first 6 East Davidson points of the game to help lead the team to an early 8-2 lead and finished with 20 points for the game.
After a timeout, the Panthers would go on an 8-2 run of their own to take a 12-10 lead.
At the end of the first quarter, the game was even at 14-14. East finished the half outscoring the Panthers 16-9 in the second quarter.
The Golden Eagles play Tuesday at North Davidson. The Panthers play at Trinity on Monday.
