Northwest edges HP Central by one stroke

PTC 4A MATCH AT JAMESTOWN PARK
JAMESTOWN — Northwest Guilford edged High Point Central by one stroke in Tuesday’s Piedmont Triad 4A Conference nine-hole match at par-36 Jamestown Park.
The Vikings prevailed at 145, followed by the Bison at 146, Southwest Guilford at 154, East Forsyth at 156, Glenn at 160, Ragsdale at 161 and Parkland at 238.
Northwest’s Drew Johnson was medalist at 34.
For the Bison, Harrison Frye and Matthew Krawczyk carded 36s, while Justin Franklin, Ryan Eskew and Mathew Benton shot 37s.
For the Cowboys, Devin Lanier and Sean Hardy shot 38s, while Drew Adams and Zach Lance shot 39s.
David Song and Mike Hukill led the Tigers with 39s, while Jake Blythe carded 42 and Jared Milliken 45.
Northwest leads Central by two strokes after seven of eight league matches. The final regular-season match is an 18-hole affair at Oak Hollow on Tuesday starting at 12:30 p.m.
BASEBALL

HPCA 13, CALVARY BAPTIST 3 (5 INNINGS)
WINSTON-SALEM — Levi Gesell starred at the plate and one the mound as High Point Christian Academy downed Calvary Baptist 13-3 in five innings on Tuesday.
Gesell went 2 for 3 with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs for the Cougars (18-4, 7-1). Gesell (2-0) also got the win, striking out four in two innings. Ben White tossed the first two innings and Luke Lewallen worked the fifth.
Stephen Hemrick finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run for HPCA, while White was 2 for 2 with a double and two runs, Chris Corbett was 2 for 4, Luke Gesell went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run, and Kennedy Hardy was 1 for 3 with a two-run homer, two RBIs and two runs.
HPCA plays host to Calvary Baptist on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

RAGSDALE 10, GLENN 0 (5 INNINGS)
JAMESTOWN — Bryson Harrald went 1 for 3 with a walk-off three-run homer in the fifth inning to invoke the mercy rule as Ragsdale downed Glenn 10-0 in PTC 4A action on Tuesday.
Matt Horkey tossed a complete-game three-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Tigers (12-9, 7-4), who are tied for second place in the league with High Point Central. The teams play Friday at 7 at HPC. Horkey also went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Duncan Sparks was 1 for 1 with a double and two runs.

TRINITY 17, ATKINS 0 (5 INNINGS)
TRINITY — Colin Stout went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs as Trinity celebrated Senior Night in style, defeating Atkins 17-0 on Tuesday.
Matt McQuaigue finished 2 for 3 with three runs and two RBIs for the Bulldogs (13-8), while Troy Whittington started and worked the first inning to get the win. The Bulldogs used five different pitchers.
Trinity visits Parkland today at 6 p.m.

WESLEYAN 8, FORSYTH CD 1
LEWISVILLE — Hayden Manuel went 4 for 4 with two RBIs as Wesleyan Christian Academy downed Forsyth Country Day 8-1 in PACIS 3A action on Tuesday.
Weston Wilson finished 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Trojans (15-6, 8-2), while Zach Michalski was 2 for 2. Jake Moebius worked the first three innings to get the win, while Manuel tossed three innings and Ryan Clinch pitched the seventh.
WCA plays host to FCD on Friday at 7 p.m. at Winston-Salem’s BB&T Ballpark, home of the Dash.

WESTCHESTER 14, CALDWELL 0 (5 INNINGS)
HIGH POINT — Markel Johnson went 1 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBIs as Westchester Country Day School defeated Caldwell 14-0 in five innings on Tuesday.
Myles Sowell finished 2 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Wildcats (15-5). Nate Blakeney was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Troy Polen pitched three innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts to get the win.
Westchester plays host to Burlington Christian for Senior Night on Friday at 7 p.m.

EAST SURRY 7, BISHOP 6
KERNERSVILLE — East Surry scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to edge Bishop McGuinness 7-6 in Northwest 1A/2A Conference action on Tuesday.
Stuart Spiers and Matt Neidert each went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Villains (6-12, 2-11). East improved to 18-4, 10-4.
Bishop plays host to Mount Airy on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

WESTCHESTER 10, DURHAM TRINITY 1
DURHAM – Micah Hedgepeth hit a three-run home run to help Westchester Country Day defeat Durham Trinity 10-1 on Monday.
Donnie Sellers went 2 for 5, doubled amd had two RBIs for the Wildcats (14-5). Luke Puckett was 3 for 5 with an RBI. Adam Kirkland pitched six innings and got the win, striking out nine and allowing four hits and the Trinity run.

WHEATMORE 5, RANDLEMAN 3
RANDLEMAN — Chase Saunders struck out 14 in a complete-game effort as Wheatmore edged Randleman 5-3 late Tuesday.
Saunders also went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Warriors (12-8), who play host to T.W. Andrews today at 6 p.m.
Gareth McKee finished 2 for 3 for Wheatmore, whiler Devon Holbrook was 1 for 4 with an RBI.

SOFTBALL

WHEATMORE 5, RANDLEMAN 3
RANDLEMAN — Morgan Halo tossed a complete game and went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer as undefeated Wheatmore wrapped up the PAC-6 2A regular-season title with a 5-3 win over Randleman on Tuesday.
Katie Bailiff finished 2 for 3 with two runs for the Warriors (20-0, 8-0). Stephanie Fortner went 1 for 4 with two RBIs for Wheatmore, while Katie Kennedy was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Nicole Hunter was 1 for 4 with a double.
Wheatmore plays a home doubleheader today against two different foes. The Warriors battle Trinity at 5 p.m. and West Davidson at 7.

HPCA 10, FORSYTH CD 3
LEWISVILLE – Sloane McPeak was strong at the plate and in the circle in carrying High Point Christian Academy to a 10-3 victory over Forsyth Country Day on Tuesday.
McPeak racked up two RBIs on one hit for High Point Christian Academy. She homered in the second inning.
McPeak baffled Forsyth Country Day, striking out 10 batters. McPeak allowed one earned run, four hits and six walks over seven innings.
Nine runs in the opening three innings allowed HPCA to easily put away Forsyth Country Day. A two-run triple by Nikki Zittinger, an RBI single by Ashlyn Kennedy, and an RBI single by Kirsten Hart in the first inning and a two-run homer by McPeak, an RBI single by Kennedy, a bases-loaded walk by Hart, and a passed ball during the second inning helped the Cougars take command.
HPCA visits Cary Academy Thursday at 6 p.m.

WESLEYAN 11, CALVARY BAPTIST 0 (5 INNINGS)
WINSTON-SALEM — Taylor Travers went 4 for 4 with three RBIs, Sydney Parker was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Kayla Brewer finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs as Wesleyan Christian Academy defeated Calvary Baptist 11-0 in five innings on Tuesday.
Cayla Cecil tossed a five-inning four-hitter with six strikeouts for the Trojans (11-0, 3-0 PACIS 3A).
Wesleyan plays host to Charlotte Country Day on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

EAST DAVIDSON 10, WEST DAVIDSON 2
THOMASVILLE — Morgan Key’s grand slam sparked East Davidson to a 10-2 win over West Davidson on the Golden Eagles’ Senior Night.
Natalie Naturile went 2 for 4 for East, while Key finished 1 for 3.
Haley Ray got the win on the mound. East travels to Salisbury on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. game.

LEDFORD 13, NORTH FORSYTH 0
WINSTON-SALEM — Ashley Best finished 3 for 5 with five RBIs as Ledford blanked North Forsyth 13-0 in Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference action on Tuesday.
Megan Hayworth and Mary Davis combined for a three-hitter with six strikeouts for the Panthers (13-7, 7-2). Destiny DeBerry went 2 for 4 for Ledford, while Erin Crotts was 2 for 3, Jessie Hayworth was 2 for 5 and Megan Hayworth was 2 for 2 with a double and RBI.
Ledford plays host to North Davidson today at 7 p.m.

SW GUILFORD 18, HP CENTRAL 2 (4 INNINGS)
HIGH POINT — Sophomore Erin Dowell went 3 for 4 with her first career home run as Southwest Guilford defeated High Point Central 18-2 in four innings in PTC 4A action on Tuesday.
Dowell had five RBIs and two runs for the Cowgirls (11-7, 7-3). Julia Goodwin finished 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI and also worked a scoreless inning. Charity Douglas was 1 for 1 with a homer, three runs, two RBIs and three intentional walks.
Southwest plays host to East Forsyth today at 7 p.m.

GLENN 16, RAGSDALE 0 (6 INNINGS)
HIGH POINT — Heather Burton went 4 for 4 with four runs and three RBIs and Taylor Strassburg finished 4 for 5 with five RBIs and a run as Glenn defeated Ragsdale 16-0 in six innings on Tuesday.
An 11-run six sealed it for the Bobcats (11-7). Amy Harris went 1 for 3 for Ragsdale (8-3).

TRINITY 16, ATKINS 0 (4 INNINGS)
TRINITY — Noelle Butler and Johna Mizza combined to throw a no-hitter as Trinity rolled past visiting Atkins 16-0 in four innings Tuesday.
Butler pitched the first three innings, allowing only two walks while striking out eight, before Mizza came on in the fourth to strike out one.
Butler went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs while Mizzi hit a three-run home run to key the Bulldogs (13-7, 5-3 PAC-6 2A) at the play. Susan Yates also went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.
Trinity plays again today at rival Wheatmore at 5 p.m.

SOCCER

HP CENTRAL 2, PARKLAND 0
WINSTON-SALEM — Cameron Dixon and Susie Griffin tallied goals as High Point Central blanked Parkland 2-0 in Piedmont Triad 4A Conference action.
Caroline Boone and Briana Baldwin dished assists for the Bison (4-9, 2-7). Mary Bryan Smith served in goal for the shutout.
Central visits Glenn on Thursday at 6 p.m.

AMERICAN HEBREW 2, WESTCHESTER 0
GREENSBORO — American Hebrew Academy topped Westchester Country Day School 2-0 on Tuesday.
Maddie Dyson made eight saves in goal for the Wildcats (1-11-2), who play their regular-season finale today at Salem Baptist at 4 p.m.

RAGSDALE 2, NW GUILFORD 1
GREENSBORO — Montana Flemming scored two goals and Lauren Merritt dished as assist as Ragsdale edged Northwest Guilford 2-1 on Tuesday.
Keller Dixon made five saves in goal for the Tigers.

SW GUILFORD 4, GLENN 1
HIGH POINT — Samantha Wang, Kristen Edwards, Maggie Clark and Amanda Barata scored goals as Southwest Guilford downed Glenn 4-1 in PTC 4A action on Tuesday.
Clark dished two assists for the Cowgirls (8-5-4, 5-3-1), while Megan Shina and Mickayla Green had one apiece.
Hannah Sink scored for the Bobcats (5-8-1, 3-6). Bailey Reeves made seven saves for Glenn, while Southwest’s Brianna O’Connor made four saves.
Southwest plays host to East Forsyth on Thursday at 7 p.m.

TENNIS

PTC 4A TOURNAMENT
HIGH POINT — High Point Central’s Robert Tutton netted two singles wins, while Bison teammates Matt Tutton and Tripp Smith posted a pair of doubles victories in the first day of the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference tennis championships hosted by Southwest Guilford.
Robert Tutton downed Glenn’s Jimmy Darroche in the first round, then topped Southwest’s Steven Michel in round two. Tutton faces Steven Walsh of Ragsdale in today’s 1 p.m. semifinal.
M. Tutton-Smith earned a first-round bye, then defeated a team from Southwest Guilford in round two. M. Tutton-Smith play a team from Northwest Guilford in today’s 1 p.m. semifinal.
Central’s Sam Utley-Carter Gay earned the top overall seed from the PTC 4A and automatically advance to the NCHSAA 4A regionals on May 3 at Page. All semifinalists from the PTC 4A tourney advance to the regionals.
Central’s Alex Hill lost to Ragsdale’s Matt Ritter in first-round action on Tuesday.

HIGH POINT — Caldwell Academy edged Westchester Country Day School 5-4 on Tuesday in the Wildcats’ regular-season finale.
Adam Chinnasami, Baxter Bruggeworth and Max Johns won in singles for Westchester. Chinnasami-Johns prevailed in doubles.
The TAC 2A Tournament begins Tuesday.

LACROSSE

BISHOP GIRLS 15, WEST FORSYTH 4
KERNERSVILLE — Megan Shortt tallied seven goals and Adaire Hudson added four as Bishop McGuinness’ girls downed West Forsyth 15-4 on Tuesday night.
Annie Lamuraglia scored twice for the Villains, while Claire Brooks and Colleen Gillooley had one goal each.
Vani Khaturia scored two goals for West, while Erin Bendig and Chartella Taylor had one each.
Bishop’s Adora Nsonwu recorded eight saves in goal.

NW GUILFORD BOYS 12, HP CENTRAL 1
GREENSBORO — Northwest Guilford’s boys turned back High Point Central 12-1 on Tuesday night.
Darrell Jackson scored for the Bison (2-10) off an assist by Shep Byles. Jacob Freeman made 16 saves in goal for HP Central, which plays host to East Forsyth on Thursday at 6 p.m.

BISHOP BOYS 11, WEST FORSYTH 6
KERNERSVILLE — Cameron Bradford scored five goals and Rhys Murdock dished four assists as Bishop McGuinness’ boys downed West Forsyth 11-6 on Tuesday.
Patrick Williard added three goals for the Villains, while Sean Hammacher had two and Max Leftwich one. Leftwich tallied two assists and Tom Valle one. Riley Furr made 11 saves in goal for Bishop.
