Piedmont baseball tops Trinity in third round
MONROE — Trinity’s stellar baseball season ended with a 7-0 loss at Monroe Piedmont in the third round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs on Friday night.
The Bulldogs, seeded second from the PAC-6, close the campaign 17-11. Monroe, top seed from the Rocky River, improved to 25-2.
“Piedmont is the No. 1 ranked team in the state in 2A,” Trinity coach Rob Shore said. “We knew it would take a perfect effort to upset them. That didn’t happen.
“But we’re proud to have been a part of the Trinity baseball team that as far as we know made the deepest playoff run in school history. Our 10 seniors were part of something special.”
Tyler Sweeney went 1 for 3 with a double for the Bulldogs. Dylan Seay started and allowed four earned runs with four strikeouts in five innings.
