Myers Park nips Ragsdale 2-1 in soccer playoffs

MYERS PARK 2, RAGSDALE 1
CHARLOTTE — Myers Park netted a 2-1 victory over Ragsdale in the third round of the NCHSAA 4A girls soccer playoffs on Wednesday night.
Myers Park, the top seed from the Southwestern Conference, improved to 17-1-1. The Tigers, seeded second from the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference, finished 18-3-2.
Abby Givens scored twice for the Mustangs, including the game-winner about 25 minutes into the first half. Montana Flemming scored off an assist from Lauren Whitaker for the Tigers’ lone goal. Keller Dixon made nine saves in goal.

BASEBALL

NCISAA 2A CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Top-seeded Westchester Country Day School plays host to second-seeded Rocky Mount Academy for the best of three NCISAA 2A baseball championship series.
Game 1 is Friday at 7 p.m. Game 2 will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Game 3, if needed, set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Wildcats sport a 21-6 record. Rocky Mount stands 20-2.

NCISAA 3A SEMIFINALS
Second-seeded High Point Christian Academy and fourth-seeded Wesleyan Christian Academy play in the NCISAA 3A semifinals on Friday at Finch Field in Thomasville.
The No. 4 seeded Trojans (18-6) face top-seeded Charlotte Christian (27-4) at noon. The Cougars (24-4) play third-seeded Providence Day (18-10) at 3 p.m.
Friday’s semifinal winners clash in Game 1 of the best of 3 state championship series at 7 p.m. on Friday at Finch Field. Game 2 is set for noon at Finch Field, with Game 3, if needed, slated for 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.

NCHSAA THIRD-ROUND PAIRINGS
High Point Central will travel to West Forsyth in the third round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs on Friday. In 2A, Trinity, the No. 2 seed from the PAC-6, will travel to Rocky River No. 1 seed Piedmont while Randleman, the No. 1 seed out of the PAC-6, plays host to Cuthbertson, the No. 2 out of the Rocky River.

REAGAN 6, GLENN 4
WINSTON-SALEM – Reagan, the No. 4 team from the Central Piedmont Conference, shocked Glenn 6-4 in the second round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs in a game that ended late Tuesday.
Glenn. the No. 2 seed from the Piedmont Triad Conference, finished the season 14-13.

CUTHBERTSON 11, EAST DAVIDSON 4
WAXHAW – Cuthberston, the No. 2 seed from the Rocky River Conference, upset Central Carolina Conference No. 1 East Davidson 11-4 in a game that ended late Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles end the season 21-3.

SOFTBALL

WEST FORSYTH 8, SW GUILFORD 0
CLEMMONS – Southwest Guilford fell to West Forsyth 8-0 in the second round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs late Tuesday night. Southwest ends the season 14-9.

SE GUILFORD 2, GLENN 1
GREENSBORO – Southeast Guilford held on and ended Glenn’s season late Tuesday.
The Falcons scored two runs in the fifth, gave up a home run to the Bobcats’ Karen Foley in the seventh and posted a 2-1 win in the second round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs.
Glenn finishes the season 15-9.

WEST STANLY 12, EAST DAVIDSON 6
THOMASVILLE — West Stanly downed East Davidson 12-6 in the second round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs late Tuesday night.
West, seeded second from the Rocky River Conference, improved to 22-4. The Golden Eagles, seeded second from the Central Carolina, finished 17-8.
