Andrews’ Simmons, McKiver star at regional

WENDELL — T.W. Andrews’ dynamic duo of Paisey Simmons and Nora McKiver posted two individual victories apiece in the NCHSAA 2A Mideast Regional late Saturday at Corinth Holders.
Simmons won the 100 dash and the 200 dash, while McKiver took the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. McKiver also claimed second in the 200.
The top four individuals in each event advance to Friday’s NCHSAA 2A championship meet at N.C. A&T.
In relay action, the Red Raiders’ Mikel Franklin, McKiver, Traniece Wilson and Simmons won the girls 400 and Franklin, Mackenzie Henderson, Simmons and Wilson bagged second in the 800.
Andrews’ girls placed third out of 21 teams, while the Red Raider boys finished fifth out of 24 teams.
For Andrews’ boys, Keyonne Horne placed second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles. Amari Devaughn bagged third in the 400. Andrews’ 1,600 relay of Horne, Williams Nunez, Lamar Raynard and Maurice Sanders also qualified.

PFAFFTOWN — Ragsdale’s Xavier Jones captured three events, while Winston Craig won two to highlight the NCHSAA 4A Midwest Regional at Reagan High School late Saturday.
Jones took the 100 dash in 10.68, claimed the 200 in 21.55 and secured the 400 in 48.54.
Craig, meanwhile, took the shot put at 53 feet, 7.5 inches and won the discus at 189-7.
Ragsdale’s Thomas Popek won the pole vault at 14 feet.
The top four individuals in each event advance to Saturday’s NCHSAA 4A championship meet at N.C. A&T.
Glenn’s Daryl Napper won the long jump at 22-9.
For the Bison boys, Kevin Green placed third in the triple jump at 42 feet, 8.5 inches.
For the Cowgirls, Hunter Roberts secured second in the 100 hurdles in 14.9 and placed third in the 300 hurdles in 46.69.
For the Bison girls, Mason Kepley notched third in the 800 in 2:24.14 and Alyiah Riley took third in the 100 hurdles in 14.82.


EAST BEND — Trinity’s Colin Rosenbaum cleared the bases with a three-run double to highlight an eight-run sixth inning as the Bulldogs topped Forbush 9-3 in the first round of the NCHSAA 2A baseball playoffs.
The Bulldogs, seeded second from the PAC-6 conference, improved to 16-10 and advanced to Tuesday’s second-round game at West Stokes. Forbush, seeded second from the Mountain Valley, finished 14-9.
Dylan Seay pitched the final five innings for the Bulldogs to get the win. He allowed two hits and struck out one while not allowing a run. Matt Jackson finished 3 for 3 with a double and RBI for Trinity, while Chase Clark was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a run.

Three other area teams will play in the second round of the NCHSAA playoffs on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
In 4A, High Point Central visits Northwest Guilford and Glenn plays host to Reagan.
In 2A, East Davidson plays host to Cuthbertson.

ALLEGHANY — Bishop McGuinness fell to Alleghany 8-3 in the weather-delayed first round of the NCHSAA 1A playoffs late Saturday. Nick Castellano went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Villains, while Chris Angiolino finished 1 for 2 with a double, run and two walks. Matt Neidert took the loss for Bishop (6-15).


Three area schools face NCHSAA second-round softball tests on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Southwest Guilford visits West Forsyth and Glenn travels to Southeast Guilford in 4A, while East Davidson plays host to West Stanly in 2A.
