Ledford boys turn back Asheboro

ASHEBORO – Ledford attacked Asheboro’s 1-2-2 zone defense better in the second half and pulled away for a 79-67 Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference victory on Monday.
The Panthers improved to 16-7 overall and 9-2 in the league, staying even with North Forsyth in the battle for first place.
Skyler McGee led Ledford with 33 points. Brandon Rothrock had 15, JOhn Sullivan 13 and Brock Braddy 10.
Leadind 20-11 after one quarter, Ledford had trouble keeping the ball after Asheboro switched defenses in the second quarter. The Blue Comets led by one at halftime.
The Panthers were more patient and efficient on offense in the second half. going up by seven after three quarters and outscoring Asheboro 32-26 in the fourth.
Ledford will honor its seniors as it plays host to Southwestern Randolph on Friday.

GREENSBORO – Wesleyan won the girls team title at the PACIS championship Monday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The Trojans finished with 103 points, followed by Forsyth Country Day (82), Calvary Baptist (47), Greensboro Day (43) and High Point Christian (27).
Winners for Wesleyan included Elizabeth Baker in the 200 IM (2:22.08) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.58), Sarah Stahl in the 50 free (25.78), Lauren Turner in the 100 butterfly (1:05.22), Audrey Curtis in the 100 backstroke (1:04.82), the 200 medley relay team of Curtis, Baker, Turner and Stahl (1:57.91) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Curtis, White, Baker and Stahl (1:48.7).
Baker was named the conference’s female swimmer of the year.
Greensboro Day won the boys championship with 97 points. Calvary was second with 91, followed by FCD (61), HPCA (26) and Wesleyan (22).
Curtland Hanes of HPCA prevailed in the 500 freestyle (5:19.01) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.08).
