Cowgirls romp to 18-8 softball victory
SW GUILFORD 18, SOUTH STOKES 8 (6 INNINGS)
HIGH POINT — Jenn Davis went 5-for-5 with two doubles, five RBIs and two runs as Southwest Guilford pounded South Stokes 18-8 in six innings on Saturday.
Julia Goodwin finished 4-for-5 with four runs, two steals and an RBI for the Cowgirls (5-2), while Bri Adkins was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Morgan Shiflett was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, three doubles and two runs and Erin Thompson was 1-for-1 with two walks, two hit by pitches, five runs and an RBI.
Shiflett (5-2) got the win in relief for Southwest, which visits Providence Grove on Monday at 7 p.m.
SW GUILFORD 13, HP CENTRAL 2 (6)
HIGH POINT – Charity Douglas hit two home runs, had three RBIs and scored three runs as Southwest Guilford rolled to a 13-2 win over High Point Central late Friday.
Other top hitters for the Cowgirls were Erin Thompspn (3-for-4, a double, two runs scored, one RBI), Bri Adkins (3-for-4, a double and a run scored) and Jenn Davis (2-for-4, three RBIs, two runs scored, a double and two stolen bases).
Morgan Shiflett was the winning pitcher. She went all six innings, striking out nine Bison.
SW RANDOLPH 8, LEDFORD 5
WALLBURG –Southwestern Randolph topped Ledford 8-5 in Mid-Piedmont 3A play late Friday.
Leading hitters for the Panthers included Ashley Best (3-for-3, double, RBI), Meg Everhart (2-for-4, double), Destiny Deberry (1-for-3, double, 2 RBIs), Mckenzie Cranford (1-for-3, double, RBI).
Everhart was the losing pithcer.
WILKES CENTRAL 13, WESTCHESTER 9
LEWISVILLE — Wilkes Central built a big early lead and held off Westchester Country Day School for a 13-9 victory in the Forsyth Country Day School Invitational on Saturday.
Donnie Sellers sparked the Wildcats (7-1) at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and five RBIs. Tyler Marion went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Westchester.
Adam Kirkman took the loss for the Wildcats, who visit High Point Christian Academy on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. That game will be played at Oakview Baptist.
LEDFORD 1, SW RANDOLPH 0
FARMER — Ledford scored one run in the third inning and held off host Southwestern Randolph for a 1-0 win in Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference play Friday.
Austin Stilley went 2 for 3 with a double while Tebo White also had a double to key the Panthers (5-5, 2-1 MPC). Duke Boger struck out six in earning his second straight complete-game shutout.
Ledford plays again Tuesday at North Forsyth at 6 p.m.
SURRY CENTRAL 7, BISHOP 3
DOBSON – Jake Henley went the distance for Surry Central, striking out 10, in a 7-3 victory over Bishop McGuinness on Friday.
Bishop, which fell to 5-6 and 1-5 in the Northwest 1A/2A. led 3-1 after the top of the third. Surry added one in the bottom of the third, forced a tie in the fourth and took the lead with four runs in the fifth.
Nick Efird and Chris Angiolino each drove in a run for Bishop, which managed just four hits.
GLENN 4, RAGSDALE 3
WINSTON-SALEM – Glenn scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge Ragsdale 4-3 in a Piedmont Triad 4A contest Friday.
Robbie Harrison delivered a two-run double to tie the score, then stole third and scored the winning run on Mason Striplin’s single. Striplin also set the Tigers down in the seventh to get the win on the mound as Glenn improved to 5-5 and 2-3 in the PTC.
Mick Orfanedes and Bryson Harrald each had an RBI for the Tigers (6-5, 3-2 PTC). Cesar Trejo had three stolen bases.
Ragsdale plays host to High Point Central on Tuesday while Glenn entertains East Forsyth.
TRIAD BLACKHAWKS 4, FUQUAY-VARINA HIGH SCHOOL 3
CLAYTON — Jacob Spindel and Colton Toth scored two goals each as the Triad Blackhawks nipped Fuquay-Varina High School 4-3 on Saturday at Clayton Civitan Park.
Dustin Degner, Gabe O’Dea and Brandon Creasey had one assist each for Triad (2-5), who got eight saves from Spencer McNeeley.
W. FORSYTH 11, BISHOP 7
KERNERSVILLE – Cameron Bradford and Max Leftwich each scored two goals for Bishop McGuinness in a 11-7 loss to West Forsyth on Friday.
Patrick Willard, Tom Valle and Rhys Murdock added a goal each for the Villains. Riley Furr grabbed 10 saves in goal.
