West girls, East boys win all-star soccer games
The West girls scored three second-half goals to fend off the East 4-1 on Tuesday in the NCCA East-West All-Star soccer games at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
Lindsay Kubrick of Ragsdale, an Appalachian State signee, started on defense for the West and finished the game with two shots.
Erin Settle of Mooresville had a goal and an assist to earn MVP honors.
Meredith Dunker of Southeast Guilford and Lindsey Tulley of Charlotte Catholic also had goals for the West, which led 1-0 at halftime on an own goal.
Caroline Houser of Carrboro scored in the 67th minute to pull the East within 2-1 before Dunker and Settle answered for the West.
In the boys game, the East scored five of the game's first six goals in beating the West 5-2. It was the most the East has scored since scoring a record with seven in 2006.
Andrew Gullickson of Southwest Guilford, who plans to attend Virginia Tech and hopes to continue his soccer career, started in the midfield and played a mix of center-mid and outside-mid.
Tyler George of New Hanover had a goal and an assist to earn MVP honors.
Ryan Turner of Sanderson scored twice for the East, which led 2-1 at halftime. Noah Kemble of Havelock and Dean Rutherford of Fuquay-Varina each scored once.
Mitchell Brown of Mount Airy and Jordan Crouch of Smoky Mountain each scored a goal for the West.
