West sweeps East-West basketball

The West girls played well in the second and third quarters to pull away from the East for an 82-68 win Monday in the NCCA East-West All-Star basketball games at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Cameron Nieters of Bishop McGuinness scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and had three rebounds, while Briana Burgins of Southwest Guilford scored four points and grabbed four rebounds.

Shaylen Burnette of Southern Alamance was the game’s MVP with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting to lead the West, which led 40-32 at halftime and outscored the East 43-26 in the second and third quarters.

In the boys game, the West completed the sweep with a 98-86 win against the East.
James Stepp of Ragsdale had six points, three steals and two assists for the West, on which former Glenn coach Lee Reavis was an assistant.

Jeremy Harris of Page was the game’s MVP with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting. The West, which led 49-40 at halftime, outscored the East in every quarter.
