Trinity’s boys, East’s girls come away with wins

Brandon Earnhardt scored 28 points to help lead Trinity’s boys to a 54-40 victory over host East Davidson on Friday.

Trinity (5-0) led by just two after the first quarter and 30-23 at the half. Jarrod Rogers added 10 points for the Bulldogs and David Newcomer had eight.

In the girls game, East roared to a 24-point halftime lead on the way to  a 64-18 victory. Jordan Parker led Trinity with six points while Casey Davis and Noell Butler added four each. Angelica Conroy grabbed seven rebounds for the Bulldogs.



CHARLOTTE – Six players scored in double-figures for High Point Christian’s boys in a 94-50 romp over Charlotte Country Day on Friday night.

Joey McLean led the Cougars (5-1) with 16 points. Mike Kobani had 12 with Jackson Kent and Diante Baldwin chipped in 11 each. Rick Mack and Isiah Gill each had 10.

HPCA led by just one after the first quarter bur broke the game open by outscoring Charlotte 27-4 to take a 41-17 halftime lead.

Kobani led the Cougars on the boards with 15 rebounds in posting a double-double; and. Malik Wright narrowly missed one with nine points and 10 rebounds. Kent dished six assists while Badlwin was listed with five.

HPCA hosts Westchester Country Day on Tuesday.



ASHEBORO – Jamal Thompson scored 12 point to lead High Point Central to a 39-32 victory over Asheboro on Friday, Central led 24-19 at the half.

Germaine Pratt added seven for the Bison (3-3), Juwan Foggie and Jafari Quick added six each.

Central plays host to East Forsyth at Southwest Guilford on Wednesday.




WALLBURG – Courtney Callicutt led the way with 18 points and Emmmalee Thomas added 15 as host Ledford topped county rival North Davidson 63-46 in girls non-conference action on Friday night.

Callicutt hit 7 of 11 shots from the field while Thomas made 3 two-point baskets and 3 from 3-point range. Leigh Midkiff grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Panthers and added seven points. Callicutt had four steals.

Ledford started quickly, racing to an 18-10 lead after the first quarter and building the lead to 37-20 at halftime.

Lauren Ramsey scored 12 points to lead North. Taylor Darrow added 10.



KERNERSVILLE – Holding visiting North Stokes to single digits in each of the last three quarter, the Bishop McGuinness girls rolled to  53-25 Northwest 1A/2A Conference victory on Friday.

Alex Putnam hit two 3s and scored 10 of her game-high 13 points in the first quarter as Bishop opened a 19-11 lead, which grew to 33-16 at the half. The Villains improved to 3-1 and 2-0 in the NWC.

Putman ended with three 3s. Julia Borwn added eight points, while Tia Cappuccio and McKenzie Rochford had seven each.

Bishop’s boys rolled 58-35, after jumping out to an eight-point lead in the first quarter.

Kevin Weckworth led the Villains (4-0, 2-0) with 27 point. Isiah Mateen had 10.

Bishop goes to South Stokes on Tuesday.



FARMER – Stagnant in the first half, Wheatmore’s boys ran away to a 67-35 victory over host Southwestern Randolph on Friday.

Leading by just five at the half, the Warriors outscored the Cougars 42-15 over the last two periods.

Anthony Harris led Wheatmore (7-0) with 14 points. Marshall Lang added 12, while Jordan Fulp and Madison Fountain had 10 each followed by Jason Ozment with nine.

Southwestern Randolph took the girls game, 75-52. Taylor Walker led Wheatmore (2-5) with 28 points. Georgia Garrison had 10 and Kylie Welborn eight.

Wheatmore travels to East Davidson on Tuesday.



WINSTON-SALEM – Deonna Young scored 27 points, dished four assists and three steals to help Glenn’s girls  outlast host Winston-Salem Reynolds 50-47 on Friday night. It was the first loss of the year in four games for the Demons.

Glenn (2-3) trailed 13-10 after the first quarter but took a 23-20 lead at halftime and padded the margin to 41-10 after the third quarter.

Ciana Byron paced Reynolds with 13 points.



GREENSBORO – Shamar McColl scored 22 points and Steven Davis added 21 as Southern Guilford roared from behind to top Southeast Guilford 71-63 on Friday.

Down 37-24 at halftime, Southern (2-4) outscored the Falcons 47-26 in the second half, taking the lead with about six minutes to go.

Southern goes to Trinity on Tuesday.



WENTWORTH – James Stepp and Joseph Bryant scored 13 points each for Ragsdale in a 53-45 victory over host Rockingham County on Friday. Khalil Whitaker added nine for the Rigers (3-2)..

Ragsdale goes to Parkland on Tuesday.






TRINITY – Trinity prevailed in nine weight classes and pinned Asheboro 47-27 on Thursday night.

Winners for the Bulldogs included Malcolm Wallace (106 pounds), Austin Minish (113), Tyler Myers (126), Brandon Sparks (138), Alex Guevara (145), James Ryan (152), A.J. Patron (160), Dakota Helmstetler (170) and Cahss Delgato (heavyweight).

Trinity, which improved to 7-0 in dual matches, hosts its Trinity Invitational on Saturday.



WALLBURG – Austin Deberry (132 pounds), Drew Chappell (145) and Ben Rickard (220) went for Ledford as the Panthers topped North Davidson and lost to Thomasville in a tri-meet on Thursday night.
