Your View: Braxton Craven students react to shutdown

Oct. 14, 2013 @ 07:11 PM

Several students in Zalia Welborn’s language arts classes at Braxton Craven Middle School in Trinity have responded to the government shutdown.

Dear editor,
I don’t understand the government shutdown. I mean, come on Republicans and Democrats make a decision! We are all Americans so we should all get along so that the government will be in business again. I really want to be able to visit Washington, D.C. this year. Let’s get the government back in business!

Dear editor,
Of what I know about the government shutting down, it is just wrong! So many people have their jobs on hold because a bunch of grown men/women are acting like a kid fighting over a toy. Shutting down the government because grown men/women did not get what they want is ridiculous!

Dear editor,
I think the government shutdown is silly. Both sides are acting childish! I don’t think that during this shutdown we should keep paying congressmen and let go all other government worker’s positions. God bless Fisher House for coming through for the families of the men/women serving in the military.

Dear editor,
I think the government shutdown is outrageous! The president should do something about it! The Republicans and the Democrats need to stop fighting like babies and end all of this. I hope the government shutdown will stop!
DANIEL DOCKERY

Dear editor,
I think the government is acting immature! They need to figure all this out before the United States goes under! Our government officials need to do something!
AARON SPROUSE

Dear editor,
I think the Democrats and the Republicans should compromise with each other. It is not fair that they shut down funds that are needed for different museums, buildings, etc. Democrats and Republicans make an agreement!

Dear editor,
I think that the Republicans and the Democrats are not doing anything to solve this mess! I think that Mr. Obama is a good president, but he is not doing anything either. We need to try to keep cool and resolve all of this.
CHRISTIAN ALLEN
Trinity

Dear editor,
I am confused about the government shutdown. The government should have paid for the soldiers that died recently. I think that Congress should agree with one another. They are acting like big babies!
MATT CRADDOCK

Dear editor,
I strongly believe that verbal fighting is unhealthy for our country! The effect of this shutdown has caused museums, parks, buildings, etc. to close. The closing of these important places slows down learning for children. President Obama is our leader; I believe he should stop this fight! Also, our government should respect our soldiers more!
EMILY LANE

Dear editor,
I think that the government shutdown is wrong! The Republicans and the Democrats should compromise. Congress should fund some money for Obamacare so everyone will be satisfied. Open up the government and compromise!

• If the first people to be furloughed in the government shutdown were the secret service agents and officers around our elected representatives, they might be more willing to negotiate.

The High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau has just awarded $210,625 in grants to local tourism-generating groups from funds raised by hotel room taxes. Is this a good use of these room-tax dollars? In 30 words or less (no name, address required), email your thoughts to letterbox@hpe.com or go to hpe.com under Opinion and post a comment. Here is one response:
• This funding is critical for many of the recipients to market outside of the High Point area.  This is an excellent use of this funding!
