Your View: America is reaping what it has sown

Jan. 05, 2013 @ 01:58 AM

The shootings in Newtown, Conn., and many other senseless shootings in our society are the results of America reaping what it has sown.
A shooting is almost a daily occurrence on the news or in the newspaper, if not both. The liberal social engineers who think they are smarter than God have kicked God out of our place of public instruction and are in the process of kicking Him out of our society. In His place, we’re taught we evolved from a blob of mess that came from nowhere and have no past, no purpose for the present and no future.
Add to that, no discipline — God (oops!) forbid one of the little devils (or angels?) should be corrected, much less punished. It may harm their ego, self-esteem or personality. And certainly don’t let the Ten Commandments be seen. That may give them the idea there is a standard to live by.
The rights of belief and expression of the vast majority in this “politically correct” society are trampled underfoot in order not to “offend” a small minority. The majority are suppressed to be silent while the anti-God and sodomite crowds have their way.
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” — Hebrews 9:27. There is coming a reckoning day!
Ben Franklin (not a Christian) said in requesting prayer at the Continental Congress, “If a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?” America is seeing the answer.

We’re on brink of political civil war
Here sat on Dec. 29 on the edge of the “fiscal cliff.”  Congress AND President Obama had known about this for a year, but time seems to fly when you are having fun.  You would think this would be easy to fix since going over the “cliff” would be terrible. It’s like – do you want to go to hell?
1) Raise everyone’s  taxes.
2) Increase taxes by $3,700 per family for about 20 million “average” folks caught by the dreaded AMT.
3) Stop extended benefits for 2 million unemployed.
EASY is a word which doesn’t seem to fit our elected representatives. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, we should be ashamed and MAD that we have elected 535 totally incompetent idiots to Congress. We have become so ideologically split that there seemed to be no compromise available. President Obama sure hasn’t helped that situation. I find my list of friends to have fewer and fewer Democrats since his election! Obama seems to have polarized everyone’s thinking. We are a nation that has politically plunged into another civil war!
That’s a real shame and will not be good for any of us.

Editor’s note: Ewell Lendon, a native High Pointer, returned here a few years ago in retirement and began to regularly write letters to Your View. His comments came from a more liberal viewpoint and sparked discussions in Your View and on the HPE’s website. Lendon died Christmas Day at the age of 77. We offer our condolences to the family. Your loved one’s comments and contributions will be missed.

The Guilford County Board of Education is considering renaming Allen Jay Middle School when a new magnet facility opens there. Should the school be renamed? What name would you suggest? In 30 words or less (no name, address required), email us your thoughts to letterbox@hpe.com. Here is one response:
• Renaming Allen Jay Middle School makes about as much sense as renaming Southside SoSi. How do you even pronounce SoSi? You do away with our history if you rename town.
