Your View: America offers opportunity - if you’re willing to work for it

The opportunity for a good life is always there if you are willing to work for it.  Living in America gives everyone the same opportunity to achieve success and move ahead.
Choices are what determine whether you advance or not.  You have the choice to waste your money or save, you have the choice to spend above your means or be frugal, you have the choice to work or wait for handouts, you have the choice to invest or waste your earnings.  The decisions are truly yours so don't say to those of us that we did what we were supposed to, that we aren't being fair.
What Washington is doing isn't fair; to tax us for everything and then waste so much isn't fair, to have a different health care system for those we elect isn't fair, to have a different retirement system for those we elect isn't fair.  If the President, the Senate and the House really want to be fair, they should be part of every law they place on us.
I am so lucky to live in this great land that I wouldn't mind a small tax increase if there wasn't so much waste in D.C.  What isn't fair is that so many Americans pay no income tax while those that work pay so much.  We are granted the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; we are not guaranteed those rights.
I wonder where this country would be if our ancestors had stood around and waited for handouts rather than worked to build our land.  One of the best lessons I ever learned was that the harder I work the luckier I get.
