Your View: Changing school board terms, elections would be unwise

I completely agree with Ed Price on his comments regarding the bill from N.C. Sen. Trudy Wade, R-Guilford, regarding changing the term periods from four to two years for school board members and especially in changing the positions to a partisan standing and changing the district lines.
We do not need to dilute High Point’s presence on the school board, and there is no need to know if a school board candidate is a Republican, Democrat or independent.  I have not heard any great complaints on our Guilford County school system. They are progressively making gains on a steady basis under Mo Green’s direction and the school board.

It’s March Madness for women’s basketball, too
I watch Carolina basketball and this year it has been exciting, especially watching ladies who play for Carolina, Duke and Wake Forest.
Graduating from Jamestown High in 1950 and being head cheerleader for three years, life was basketball season. We lived in the gym cheering and attending every game with expectations of fun and being really into the whole thing. What a great time we had. We loved our saddle shoes and letters on our sweaters, and we were just as cute as could be. Our skirts were just above the knee, and my Dad thought it was too short.
Talked to my good pal recently who was center on the girls team. She was a hot-shot when it came to the hook shot. No one could touch her. We talked about how fortunate we were to have had such a wonderful time in high school and how we were all friends with all the athletes on all sports teams. Aging now, I realize it was the best of times and a blessing to have shared so much fun in those years.
I really love to watch the girls play, and I am so happy it still goes on. They really do a great job. I would like to be there when they play. I will cheer them from my chair while watching TV. Go girls!

Sen. Stan Bingham has introduced a bill that would allow selected staff and volunteers to carry weapons at private schools if school officials elect to do so. What’s your view? In 30 words or less (no name, address required), email us your thoughts to Here are two responses:
• Let teachers carry guns in private schools because parents can move kids to another private school, public schools or home school if opposed.  Don’t consider it for public schools.
• People with concealed carry permits should be allowed to carry guns in all schools, not just private ones.  Gun Free Zone prohibitions do not stop criminals or make us safer.

State Sen. Trudy Wade, R-Guilford, has proposed redistricting county school board lines, reducing board member term lengths and making elections partisan. What’s your view? In 30 words or less (no name, address required), email us your thoughts to
