Mike Hughes: Don’t accept political lies

Dec. 15, 2012 @ 08:17 PM

Heard any good lies lately? Far too many Americans have been far too accepting of political lies for far too long. You could say that these lies come from both sides of the aisle, and you’d be right. But the fact of the matter is that our mainstream media instinctively pounces on any lie that comes from the right while routinely ignoring or actively supporting lies that come from the left.
A long history of lies from the left has resulted in major political gains for liberal Democrats and has done major damage to our country. Conservatives shouldn’t accept this. We can and should do something about it. The first step is to recognize the lies, so I’ll give a few examples.
The left has the art of deception down to a science, so let’s begin with science: “Global warming is settled science. All scientists agree.” No, it’s not, and no, they don’t. It’s not much of a stretch to say that there’s no such thing as settled science. The history of science is a long line of theories that hold until better theories are discovered. Science is a never-ending process of discovery and refinement. Anyone who believes that we already know everything there is to know about planetary climate is severely misguided. The reason why global warming is in the news so much is because politicians are throwing around billions of our tax dollars and every two-bit bureaucrat on the planet wants a piece of the action. I’m all for reasonable regulations to control pollution, but other than that, just enjoy the weather.
These next two lies usually go hand in hand: “Democrats are looking out for the poor. Republicans only care about the rich.” If Democrats are looking out for the poor, they’ve sure been doing a lousy job of it. And why would Republicans care about rich Democrats like John Kerry and Barbara Streisand?
Then there’s, “Democrats and Republicans are all the same.” This can only be said in complete ignorance or utter delusion. Some Republicans have exhibited liberal tendencies, but the GOP is still the only party in Washington that even attempts to constrain the reckless growth of our government.
Here’s a fairly new one: “Conservatives are anti-government.” No, we’re only against the cronyism and general irresponsibility that exists in our current government. We support the essential constraints that were written into the “charter of negative liberties,” also known as our Constitution.
Here’s the standard lie liberals use when all else fails: “Conservatives are hateful, racist, bigots.” The people who make these false claims are usually projecting their own hatred and invariably ignore the racism and bigotry that exists on the left.
There are many other lies that we hear all the time. The lies of the left have been deeply ingrained into our society because not enough people stand up to oppose them. All conservatives should have a zero-tolerance policy toward political lies, no matter which side of the aisle the lies come from. These lies are a big part of the reason why our country is currently in decline. Don’t just ignore the lies. Respond with the truth.
