Margaret K. DeWitt
HIGH POINT - Mrs. Margaret Kathleen DeWitt, age 88 resident of Pennybyrn at Maryfield passed away February 6, 2014. Mrs. DeWitt was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on February 27, 1925 a daughter to Louis Edward and Katharine Burns McDonald.  She graduated from George Mason University and was employed with the Signal Corp during World War II and later with Control Data Corporation.  Following her marriage and the growth of her family, she devoted herself to home and family as a homemaker. Mrs. DeWitt was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in High Point, but attended Mass at her residence Chapel at Maryfield.
Margaret was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and David McDonald and by her husband Henry Arthur DeWitt on January 26, 2001. Surviving are her children; Kathleen Sawyer of Woodstock, Ga., Barbara Phelps of Marietta, Ga., Kevin Dewitt  of Cary, NC, and Jim DeWitt of Black Mountain, NC, and David DeWitt of Fredericksburg, Va.  Mrs. Dewitt has nine grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 14th at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Pennybyrn at Maryfield by Father Jim Solari. The family will receive friends at Maryfield following the Mass.  Inurnment will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Mausoleum at 1:00 p.m. Friday. LEXINGTON - Virginia Hughes Gerlach, 81, of Old Highway 64 West, died Friday February 7, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. Jayne Morrison
HIGH POINT - Jayne Elizabeth Morrison, age 72, a resident of High Point, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 9, 2014. She was born May 20, 1941 in Marlboro County, SC and had lived in the High Point Area most of her life. She was employed with Ryerson Metal Distributors and had worked there for 7 years. Jayne faithfully attended Cloverdale Church of The Living God. She enjoyed shopping, watching TV and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Richard Morrison. She is survived by her daughters; Lisa Thompson of Binghamton, NY, Linda Tollison and her husband Timothy of Trinity, and Lori Morrison of the Home. Also surviving are her brother; Richard McDowell of Blenheim, SC, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A service to celebrate Jayne’s life will be held at Cloverdale Church of the Living God on Friday, February 14, 2014 , at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times will be at the residence. L.H. Efird
HIGH POINT - Mr. L.H. Efird, 86, resident of 1615 Larkin St. died Sunday evening in the High Point Regional Hospital. Mr. Efird was born Dec. 13, 1927 in Guilford County a son of Lawrence H. and Tidy Cranford Efird. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life and was employed with Ma-Ro Hosiery and retired from Sara Lee Hosiery following 42 years of service. Mr. Efird was a member of Westchester Baptist Church, Adult IV Co-Ed II Sunday School Class, Deacon and Choir member. On April 28, 1950 he was married to Phyllis Newton who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one daughter; Amber McRee and husband Curry of High Point, one Grandson; Jeremy Johnson and wife Brandy; two Great Grandchildren Audrey and Logan Johnson.
Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from the Westchester Baptist Church by the Rev. Eric Peacock. Interment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service on Thursday. The body will remain at the Cumby Family Funeral Service on Eastchester Dr. Pallbearers will be Kenneth and Steve Newton, Jesse White, Adam Baldwin, Jeremy Johnson and Jorden Lester. Jane White Tyson Cassady
HIGH POINT - Jane White Tyson Cassady, 66, of Athens, GA passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014. A native of High Point, NC, Mrs. Cassady was the daughter of the late Dr. Thomas David Tyson Jr and Virginia Masters Tyson and was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Tyson Corpening.  Mrs. Cassady graduated from the University of Georgia in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English. She was a member of Sigma Pi Alpha Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and she later returned to the University of Georgia to earn a Master of Historic Preservation degree at the School of Environmental Design in 1997 and was most recently a preservation consultant.
Mrs. Cassady had served on the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Historic Preservation Division, the Kentucky Heritage Council, the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, and the NE Georgia Regional Development Center. She authored “Preserving Cultural and Historic Landscapes: A Study of Preservation Policies and Techniques” in 1997 and co-authored “The New Georgia Guide” in 1996. Mrs. Cassady served on the Athens-Clarke Historic Preservation Commission from 1989-1994 and 2003 and was commission chair from 1991-1994 as well as being secretary of the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions.
She also served as a board member of the Preservation Action in Washington, DC and was a founding member of Preservation Kentucky. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Scott H. Cassady of Athens, GA; daughters, Jeanne Van Ronzelen of North Wales, PA and Brooke Cassady of New Orleans, LA; brother, Thomas David Tyson III of High Point, NC, and grandchildren, Henry Haxton and Lyla Jane. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, 1516 Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, GA 30309. Online condolences may be offered at www.bernsteinfuneralhome.com.
