Mack Brown
JULIAN — Mack A. Brown, 92, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Clapp’s Nursing Center.
Mack retired from Lorillard Tobacco where he was known as “Happy”, and was a lifetime member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 6869 Shiloh Road, Liberty, NC with Rev. David Hiatt and Rev. Chuck Marbry, Jr. officiating; burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, from 7 - 9 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty.
He was born on August 14, 1920, to J.F. and Margrett Fields Brown, and was also preceded in death by his sisters, Eva Garrett and Helen Harris;
brothers, Kinston (Buck) Brown, James Brown, Murphy Brown, Laster Brown.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Maxine Brown; daughters, Cathy Hiatt (Jamie) of Thomasville and Barbara Williams (Rick) of Liberty; 4 grandchildren, Michael Williams, Sharon W. Brown, David Hiatt (Mae) and Jeremy Hiatt; and brother, Frank Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, PO Box 774, Liberty, NC  27298.
The family would like to say thank you to the compassionate caregivers at Clapp’s Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden, as well as to those who came into their home.

Buford Joyce
HIGH POINT — Mr. Buford Desmond Joyce, 89, resident of High Point, died March 10, 2013, at Graybrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Trinity.
Mr. Joyce was born July 8th, 1923, in Guilford County, a son to the late John and Alpha New Joyce. A resident of this area all his life, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and owner and operator of Joyce Package. In 1945, he married Ruth Frances Joyce who preceded him in death in 2000. Also preceding him were seven brothers and sisters.
Surviving is a daughter, Kaye Joyce Culler and husband Bobby of High Point; a son, Mike Desmond Joyce of High Point; five grandchildren, Jennifer Bondurant, Misty Wood, Bryan Harrelson, Dr. Jordan Harris and Michael Casey Joyce; and four great-grandchildren, Weston Bondurant, Carter Wood, Desmond Wood and Maren Grace Harris.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to Highland United Methodist Church, 1015 Mill Ave. High Point, NC 27260. Joseph “Joe” Byrd
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Joseph (Joe) Stephen Byrd, 74, a resident of 913 Ball Park Road, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born on January 19, 1939, in Lenior, NC to Baxter Fred Byrd, Sr. and Lora Pruitt Byrd and had been a resident of Thomasville since 1957. He was the owner and operator of Joe Byrd Construction since 1977 and a US Navy veteran. He was a fireman with The Thomasville Fire Department from 1967-1977 and was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, the Couple’s Class, Young at Heart, and a member of the Thomasville Planning and Zoning Board for 10 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Joel S. Byrd and Mark S. Byrd; granddaughter, Lindsey T. Hipp; brothers, Bill Byrd, B. Fred Byrd, Jr., and Donald Byrd; and sisters, Eloise B. Jenkins and Esther Byrd.
On June 1, 1957, he married Peggy Harris, who survives of the home; also surviving is his son, Brian G. Byrd and wife Yvonne; daughter, Janet B. Lancaster and husband Michael; grandsons, Alex Byrd, Jacob Lancaster, Noah Lancaster, and Clint Byrd; granddaughters, Kristina B. Lowe and husband Steven, Rebekah Byrd, Nicole Hipp, and Jordan Byrd; great-grandson, Harrison Lowe; brother, James Byrd and wife Rita; sisters, Lillian B. Bartlett and Nancy Turbeville; and his pet and daily companion, Izzy.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at noon at Greenwood Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Byrd will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 - 8 p.m. and at other times at the home. Memorials may be directed to The Greenwood Baptist Men, PO Box 1088, Thomasville, NC 27361. Jeffery Yarborough
LEXINGTON — Jeffery Craver Yarborough, 61, of S. NC Highway 150, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, after injuries received in a motorcycle accident. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of his mother on S. NC Highway 150 in Lexington.

ASHEBORO — Judith “Judy” Phyllis Gordon Noonan, 69, of Asheboro, died Saturday, March 9, 2013. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, in the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel.

Diane Nye
THOMASVILLE — Diane Margaret Nye, 63, a resident of Thomasville passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013, in the Forsyth Medical Center.
Diane was born May 19, 1949, in Malone, New York a daughter of the late Ernest Edwin Nye and Marion Truedell Nye. She had made this area her home for the last thirty two years. Diane was a retired CPA having worked at the VA Administration in Salisbury, NC. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam era. Diane was a graduate of High Point University, class of 1989, an avid reader, enjoyed photography, liked to travel, and loved to keep up with family and friends through the internet sharing messages and pictures. She was patriotic and proud to be a veteran. She was also an organ donor.
Surviving are her sister, Sheila Nye of Randleman, NC; brothers, Gerald Deyette and wife Ruth of Trinity, NC, William Nye and wife Cynthia of Hilton Head Island, SC; best friend and caregiver Carolyn Atkins of Thomasville; many loving and caring nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with the Rev. Bynum Orr officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the N.C. JAMESTOWN- Jonathan Andrew Colón, 19, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 9, 2013. A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, at Bales Wesleyan Church, 1000 Bales Chapel Road in Jamestown.
