Nellie “Nell” Ila Wright Southards
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Nellie “Nell” Ila Southards, age 93, died Thursday, March 7th at Hospice Home at High Point. She had been a resident of Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center in Jamestown for the past two years and had been in declining health for several years. A native of Randolph County, Mrs. Southards was born December 21st, 1920 in Asheboro a daughter to Manuel Allen Wright and Jennie Daisy Kirkman Wright. A lifelong resident of High Point, in her earlier years she was employed at Influential Hosiery Mill and Melrose Hosiery Mill and was a homemaker for most of her life. She enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful items for friends and family members. She also enjoyed cooking, traveling to see friends and family members, shopping for clothes and jewelry, and dining out at local restaurants. Prior to declining health, Mrs. Southards was an active member of English Road Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for the preschool department. On September 8th, 1945, she married Ernest Monroe Southards, her loving husband, who preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Ruth Johnson, Bertha Embler, and Mozelle Poole, and Brothers Russell Wright, Cecil Wright and Clarence Wright. Surviving is one brother in law, Carroll Southards and his wife Helen of Knoxville, Tennessee, sister in laws Frances Wright of High Point and Rachel Southards of High point. Also her special niece and care giver Carla Southards Puahi of High Point and special friends Linda Rankin and Kathy Hubbard of High Point, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Monday at English Road Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. James Summey officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends, at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Sarah Mixson Bryant
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Sarah Mixson Bryant, 86, a resident of High Point, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Hospice Home of High Point. She was born in Guilford County on February 7, 1927, the daughter of B. C. Mixson and Annie Robinson Mixson. She married Gatha Lenoy Bryant on November 14, 1945. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2006. She was also a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Thomasville for many years and spent her life as a homemaker and devoted mother. Sarah was diagnosed with cancer twice in her lifetime and battled it through courage and her strong faith. She was a devoted Baptist all her life and so proud of the father that she adored, B.C. Mixson because of the great example he made of his life for her to follow. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are three sons: Gary Bryant and wife Darlene of High Point; Michael Bryant and wife Shelby of Greensboro; and John Bryant of High Point; a daughter, Glenda Campbell of Dillon, S.C.; sisters, Susie Clements and husband Charles of Gastonia and Rachel Rankin of Silver Springs Maryland. Sarah also leaves behind seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013, at 2 p.m. at J. C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Tom Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1 - 2 p.m. prior to the service. HIGH POINT — Mr. Richard McCormick, age 65 of High Point departed this earthly life on Monday, March 4, 2013. He was born in Chesterfield County, S.C. on April 5, 1947, to the late Berry and Hester Johnson McCormick.
Richard accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was a member of St. James Baptist Church. He graduated from Long Jr. High School in Chesterfield, S.C. and joined the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he relocated to High Point and was united in holy matrimony to Mary Johnson McCormick.
Richard enjoyed his lifelong career as an auto mechanic. He also loved going to the race track.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one son, Michael McCormick; two sisters, Pearlie May Avery and Effie Williams; two brothers, Willie McCormick and Eli McCormick.
Those left to cherish his memories include, one son, Richard McCormick Jr. of Hoffman N.C.; a special niece, Bernice Ledbetter of Cheraw S.C.; four sisters, Yevonne Burns, Dorothy Wilson, Shirley Antrum, Carolyn (Londale) Scotts all of Cheraw S.C.; four brothers, Leroy McCormick, Theodore (Louise) Hillards both of Cheraw S.C., June McCormick of Long Island N.Y. and June McCormick of Kannapolis, N,C.; two grandchildren, Jasmine McCormick and Jamaica Morrison both of High Point; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to acknowledge Joe and Donna Gregory of the X-press Mart Store, William McManus and Mike Isaac for their special friendship shared with Richard.
Home going Celebration will be 12 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Living Waters Baptist Church, 1300 Brentwood St. Family visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at the church.
