Glenda Ahmed
HIGH POINT — Glenda Ludwig Ahmed, 63, died Sept. 4, 2013.  Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Lick Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, near Denton. Visitation follows the service in the church fellowship hall. Sechrest Funeral Service is in charge or arrangements.


Sherri (Seward) Carter
THOMASVILLE — Sherri (Seward) Carter, 52, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Charles Randall Carter.
Mrs. Carter was born on June 6, 1961, in High Point, a daughter of Joyce (Backley) Carter of High Point, and the late Johnny George Seward. She was a graduate of Alleghany High School in Sparta, N.C., and attended G.T.C.C. for two years.
In her spare time she enjoyed volunteering at the High Point Museum, where she was a tour guide and sat on the board of trustees; reading, traveling to the beach and mountains, spending time and barbequing with family and friends, and taking care of her pets.
Mrs. Carter is survived by two sons, Adam C. Carter and his partner, Christopher L. Headrick of Manassas, Va., and Eric R. Carter of Titusville, Fla.; a sister, Lorinda S. Cox and her husband, Roger of Trinity; two nephews, Steven D. Cox and his wife, Megan, and Matthew D. Cox all of Greensboro; a niece, Amanda D. Cox of Boone; her companion, Mark Wilson of Thomasville; a stepfather, Nathan Carter of High Point, and her beloved dog, Duke.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Floral Garden Memorial Park with the Rev. Gayle Ford officiating. A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 206 Trindale Road, Archdale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the High Point Museum, 1859 East Lexington Ave., High Point, NC 27262.

Janet Jordan Gollup
CHARLOTTE — Janet Jordan Gollup, of Charlotte passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013.
A celebration service of her life will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church, 10140 Providence Lane, with the Rev. Walt McCanless officiating.
Janet was born to Everette and Bessie Jordan of High Point. She graduated from Western Carolina University in 1975 with a B.A. in fine arts. Janet used her artistic and creative talents to see beauty in all of life.  All who knew her were blessed by her generosity and beautiful, fun spirit.
She is survived by her parents; husband, Peter; daughters, Jenny and Maggie; sister, Jill Lake; nephew, Taylor Lake; and father-in-law, Charles Gollup. Also surviving are her beloved kitties, Moo Moo and Henry.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests all who shared their life with Janet reach out to someone in need in her name.

ASHEBORO — Martin Dwayne “Marty” Griffin, 48, of Asheboro died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Avenue Church of God, 900 Sunset Ave. Burial follows in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home.

ARCHDALE — Mr. William Mark Haney, 55, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at the Hospice of High Point.

Vera Horne Hedrick
ARCHDALE — Mrs. Vera Horne Hedrick, age 98, of Archdale, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a caring friend, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at the home of her granddaughter in Thomasville.
Vera was born June 5, 1915, in Dorchester County, S.C., a daughter to the late Otey M. and Fannie Moorer Horne and was a 1931 graduate of St. George High School in St. George, S.C. She had been a resident of this area for the past 61 years and attended Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church. For several years, she taught Bible classes at New Market School in Randolph County through the Child Evangelism Fellowship. One of her ministries was praying for family and friends and sending get well and sympathy cards to those in need. During World War II she worked for the War Department. On Dec. 3, 1937, she married Richard C. Hedrick, who died Sept. 28, 1988. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Lamb, and a son, Bobby Jones.
Vera is survived by a sister, Virginia Walters of Reevesville, S.C.; a granddaughter, Sheree Markwell and her husband David of Thomasville; a grandson, Richard N. “Ricky” Lamb of Trinity; three great-grandchildren, Shawn Shives of Gastonia, Dustin Shives and his wife Amanda of Thomasville and Christy Tarolli and her husband J of Thomasville; five great-great-grandchildren, Brittany Shives, Marcus Shives, Penelope Shives, Taylor Tarolli and Zachary Tarolli, all of Thomasville, and many nieces and nehpews.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Monday at Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Crawford Crenshaw officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale and other times at the residence of her granddaughter Sheree Markwell, 111 Duncan Drive in Thomasville.

LEXINGTON — Nora Patricia Bryne Murphy, 84, of Lexington died Wednesday Sept. 4, 2013.

Robert Worth Severt
HIGH POINT — Robert Worth Severt, 88, a former resident of Harvey Road, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Westwood Health and Rehab.
Worth was born in Jefferson, N.C., Sept. 7, 1924, a son of Joseph Hilton and Mae Mash Severt. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, then with the Air Force for over 20 years. Worth retired from the city of High Point street department and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Jester Severt, and his son, Robert “Bobby” Severt.
Surviving are six sisters, Gladys Dillard of High Point, Mary Butler of Randleman, Grace Miller of West Jefferson, Bessie Morgan of Jamestown, Betty Dawson of Thomasville and Dorothy Beach of Miller’s Creek; a brother, Don Severt of Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Iris Dykes of OK, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Worth’s life will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funerals & Cremations Chapel by Pastor Andrew Dice. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Virginia Lee Williams
GREENSBORO — Virginia Lee ”Ginny” Williams, 53, passed away on Thursday, Sept.r 5, 2013, at the Hospice Home of High Point.
Ginny was born on March 25, 1960, in Greensboro, the daughter of Thomas Jackson and Barbara Ann Holmes Williams. She loved animals and was of the Methodist faith. Ginny worked as a caregiver.
Ginny was preceded in death by her father. Surviving is her mother, Barbara Ann Leonard and step father Dan Leonard of High Point, N.C.; sister, Michelle Morton Smith of Archdale, N.C.; niece, Danielle Weatherman of Greensboro, N.C.; nephews, Holden and Chase Smith of Archdale, N.C.; and special friend, Ken Ogle of Greensboro, N.C.
A celebration of Ginny’s life will be held on Sunday, 2 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with burial to follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
