Lewis G. Davis
GREENSBORO - Mr. Lewis Gray “Joe” Davis went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, February 6, 2014. A “Going Home” Celebration of Life will be held at Buffalo Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 3 p.m. with interment to follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Joe was born September 22, 1933 in Guilford County to the late Issac Newton and Elizabeth Gray Davis.
He was raised in the Cone Mill Village of White Oak and proud to call it home. Joe graduated from Rankin High School in 1952 and proudly served his country with his three older brothers. His dad was so proud of them. Joe retired June 30, 1989 after serving 34 years with the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department in a job that he loved and enjoyed so much.  The only thing he loved more than his job was his family. Joe loved to travel, one trip he never forgot was when he took his grandchildren by train to Washington to visit and tour the White House.  Joe’s wife, Ruby Sobmon Davis passed away in March, 1979. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen; brothers, Ralph, Donnie and Tommy, who he loved so much.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter, Pam, who was always there when he needed her; grandson, Justin Hall and wife Megan; granddaughter, Lindsay Hall and husband Jared; his pride and joy great-granddaughter, Brynlee; Ruth Watson, his love of 14 years; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe loved being a member of the Cone American Legion Post 386, also called the “Hot Dog Post”, because of the popularity of the hot dogs for so many years. Joe was a member for 55 years. Joe always claimed to be a “blessed man” with the best family and best friends a man could ever hope for. The family will receive friends from 1- 3 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service and on Saturday at 48 Mansfield Cir., Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 803 16th St., Greensboro, NC 27405; and/or the American Heart Association.

Annie W. Lanning
LEXINGTON - Annie Williams Lanning, age 103, of Lexington passed away Thursday afternoon. Funeral service to celebrate her memory and honor her life will be held at 3 p.m. February 16 at First Pentecostal Holliness Church. Arrangements by Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.

Brenda Jean Gregg
LEXINGTON - Brenda Jean Cannon Gregg, 70, of Lexington died Wednesday, February 5, 2014. A memorial service will be Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 at 4 p.m. at South Fork Church of Christ in Winston-Salem. Piedmont Funeral Home is serving the Gregg family.

Robie Donathan
ARCHDALE - Mr. Robie Junior Donathan, age 84, a resident of Archdale, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014. He was born on October 16, 1929 in Surry County, NC to the late Robie Calvin Donathan and Pearl King Donathan and he had been a resident of the Archdale Area most of his life. Robie worked for Drexal Heritage Furniture and retired after 41 years of service. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Thomasville. Robie enjoyed meeting at Hardees and McDonalds in Archdale and drinking coffee with his friends. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife; Doris Mabe Donathan, 3 sisters and a brother. He is survived by his son; Craig Donathan and his wife Misty of Archdale, his siblings; Nancy Bristow of Troy, Ernestine Stevenson of Biscoe, Felite Bahoric and Mary Ann Pelczyski both of Fayetteville, Turner Donathan of Biscoe and Billy Donathan of Wadesboro.  Also surviving are his granddaughters; Courtney and Brittany Donathan and his great granddaughter; Hayley Gallimore.
A service to celebrate Robie’s life will be held Monday, February 10, 2014 at 2 p.m in Floral Garden Park Cemetery at the graveside, with Pastor Michael Mabe Officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale and other times will be at the residence. Swannee Sexton
DENTON - Mrs. Swannee Williams Sexton, age 58, of North Main St., Denton died Thursday, February 6 at her home. A Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 9 at Central United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Sharon T. Lee. The family will receive friends following the service in the Central United Methodist Church Hut and other times will be at the residence on N. Main Street.
Mrs. Sexton was born November 5, 1955 in Davidson County to C. L. Williams and Lillian Wicker Williams. She was a graduate of Davidson County Community College with an Associate Degree in Applied Science Nursing. She had been employed with High Point Regional Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a member of the Mary Frances Stubbs Circle and had received a Service Pin from the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by her husband, Stewart Sexton of the Home; a son, Dan Sexton and wife, Kim of Denton; mother, Lillian Williams of Thomasville; sister, Bonnie Shuler and husband Wayne of Thomasville; mother-in-law, Johnsie Sexton of Denton; sister-in-law, Sarah Morris and husband Andy of Denton; brother-in-law, John Sexton and wife Celia of Claremont, She was a special, loving Aunt “Duck-Duck” to her nieces and nephew, Meredith and Laura Sexton, Gracie Morris, and Lucy & Kurt Shuler. Dorcas Hedgecock
TRINITY - Dorcas Carter Hedgecock went to be with Jesus February 6, 2014, after a short illness. She was born March 16, 1925 in Fork, NC to Frank and Emma Carter. In June 1946, she married Henry Ford Hedgecock.  Dorcas worked in textiles and was the mother of six.  She loved Jesus and spoke of Him often. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Ford Hedgecock and a son Christopher D. Hedgecock.  She was a longtime resident of Trinity, NC and had been a resident of High Point Manor Senior Living.
Cherishing her memory are daughters; Phyllis McNeill,  Jena (Cissie) Bundy, Dorothy Wilson,  Kathy Proctor and son Marc Hedgecock, eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many loving friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7415 Colonial Club Drive on Sunday at 1:30 pm with visitation to follow.   Graveside services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Nancy Pennell
HIGH POINT - Nancy Bruce Pennell, 62, of Trinity, passed away on Thursday, February 6th, after a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer. She was born on April 4, 1951 in Chase City, VA. Nancy graduated from Bluestone Senior High School in June 1969 and married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Pennell, in July of that year. They lived together in Atlanta, Ga before relocating to High Point in 1976.
Nancy was an Administrative Assistant at High Point University and was an active member of Green Street Baptist Church. She loved gardening, traveling, sunbathing and bird watching. Having survived breast cancer, she was an avid supporter of Relay for Life and a volunteer mentor for Guideposts of Strength.  She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Edward Bruce Sr., her sister, Evelyn B. Tharpe, and her brother, Ed Bruce.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Wayne Pennell, and two daughters: Brooke Pennell and husband Nicholas Doyle of Charleston, SC, and Jessica Pennell and special friend Matty Sheets of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by her mother, Ellie (Polly) J. Bruce, of Chase City, VA, sisters Robbin Fitzgerald and her husband, Tim, of Salisbury, NC, Cindy McMahan of Chase City, VA, Judy Bruce, of Chase City, VA, and brothers Danny Bruce and Rex Bruce and his wife Ruby of Chase City, VA. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces/nephews, in addition to the many friends and colleagues who shall miss her dearly.
A service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at Green Street Baptist Church in High Point on Sunday, February 9th, at 2:00 p.m, with visitation to follow.
