Edward Lyle Bingham
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Edward Lyle Bingham, 79, a resident of 668 Kennedy Road, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at his home. He was born on May 23, 1934, in Macon County, N.C. He was the son of William Billy Bingham and Willa Mae Thomas Bingham, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married to Norma Walker, who preceded him in death in 1955. He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, 1 brother, and 1 grandson. He was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church and played gospel music all of his life. He was retired from Brookdale Carving.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Thelma Key Bingham of the home; also surviving are two sons, Rev. E. Junior Bingham and wife Vickie, and Teddy Bingham and wife Stephanie, all of Thomasville; daughters, Lynn Sherman and husband Mike of Fayetteville and Linda Lathan and husband Ronnie of Thomasville; brother, Jerry Bingham and wife Elizabeth of Thomasville; sisters, Lucille Rogers and husband Gary of Thomasville, Martha Webb and Esta Cook and husband Don all of Franklin; three granddaughters; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and eleven great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews and his companion, Little Man.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Amazing Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Hillis Burton, Rev. E. Junior Bingham, and Rev. Tim Burton officiating. Interment will follow in Friendly Gospel Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Bingham will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 or to Amazing Grace Baptist Church, 661 Light Rd. Kathleen “Kat” Billings Merritt
CAROLINA BEACH – Kathleen “Kat” Billings Merritt, 86 formerly of King, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013. She was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Guilford County to Henry Paul and Carrie Mae Wright Billings. She was an Honorary Alumni of Johnson University. Kat was a member of Poplar Springs Church of Christ in King and had attended Seaside Chapel at Carolina Beach since 1980. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Fred Lester Merritt; a sister, Joan Billings Jester; sister-in-law, Juanita Blair Billings; two brothers-in-law, Denzel Russell and Gerald Jester; and niece, Tina Marie Pilcher. She is survived by two sisters, Brenda Russell of High Point and Gayle Johnson and husband Art of Georgia; two brothers, Clyde Billings of Florida and Don Billings and wife Ann of High Point. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 at Poplar Springs Church of Christ in King with Ministers Don Wallace and Ralph Sproles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Slate Funeral Home in King.
LEXINGTON — Troy Marie Swicegood Caudle, 92, of Sink Farm Road, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at her home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
ASHEBORO — Christopher Stephen Cranford, 22, of Asheboro, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.
A memorial service is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Fellowship Christian Church.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Jacqueline Jernigan Tart
ARCHDALE — Jacqueline Jernigan Tart of Archdale, N.C., went home to be with her Lord on Aug. 4, 2013, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Tart was born in Dunn, N.C., a daughter of the late Marvin Vernon and Donnie West Jernigan.
On June 27, 1953, she married the love of her life, Ray Bryan Tart, who preceded her in death, March 17, 2008. In 1960, Mr. and Mrs. Tart relocated to High Point, where they raised their five children.
Mrs. Tart’s home was always open, especially her kitchen, to anyone who needed to be fed or a place to lay their head. She loved people and especially her church family at Faith Baptist. She served as assistant Sunday school teacher in the Gleaners class and, for many years, was chairman of the Benevolence Committee under the leadership of her beloved pastor, Rev. Steve Welborn, who preceded her in death in February 2012.
Also preceding her in death were two grandsons, Matthew Everhart and Jerry Ray Tucker and a great granddaughter, Alexis Lynn Loflin; three brothers and two sisters, Ty, Dinky, & John Jernigan, Kathleen Jernigan Blackmon & Peggy Jernigan Guestrum.
Mrs. Tart is survived by her five children: three daughters, Sharon Tart Tucker and her husband, Jerry; Patty Tart Gallion and her husband, Charlie; Lynn Tart Oakley and her husband, Dale; two sons, Spencer Ray Tart and his wife, Alma; Lemuel Ray Tart and his wife, Kelly. God also blessed Mrs. Tart with the gift of a loving, caring companion, Mr. Billy John Martin, after the death of her husband. She is survived by 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and a half-sister, Judy McCorkendale. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Shelby Jernigan, Sally Tart Lee, and Jean Tart, of Dunn, N.C.; brothers-in-law, Charles Tart and wife, Edith, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Charles Blackmon of Thomasville, N.C. and a host of nieces and nephews that she nurtured and loved.
The family will receive friends at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Mrs. Tart’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013 at Faith Baptist Church, Trinity, N.C. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Owen, Rev. Paul Welborn and Rev. David Williams. Pallbearers will be her sons, sons-in-law and grandsons. A graveside service will be held at the Tart Family Cemetery near Dunn, N.C, with interment in the family cemetery.
The family would like to thank their church family and friends for all their love, prayers and support during this time. They would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Asim Amin and all the staff at the Levine Cancer Center in Charlotte, N.C., to Dr. James R. McGukin, II, Triad Bee Supply and to Hospice of the Piedmont. Mrs. Tart would remind everyone of the need to be checked for melanoma.
