Jimmy Lee Bates, Sr.
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Jimmy Lee Bates, Sr., a resident of Thomasville, died Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013, in High Point Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

HIGH POINT — Mrs. Bernice Godley Ellis was born on November 28, 1925, and born again on October 11, 1964 (John3:3). Bernice was absent from her body and at home with the Lord on July 30, 2013. HIGH POINT — Mr. Sylvester Horne, 87 of High Point, formerly of Mt. Gilead, died July 27, 2013. Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Snow Hill A.M.E. Zion Church, 204 Snow Hill Church Road, Mt. Gilead, with burial in the church cemetery. Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, NC, is in charge of arrangements.
HIGH POINT — Hilda Jarrett, 63, of High Point, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at Hospice Home of High Point.
Hilda was born October 26, 1949, in Wythe County, VA, to Nile Arnold and Maggie Semones Arnold. She worked as a Parts Manager for Ryder Truck Rental for more than 20 years. She enjoyed playing Bingo and cooking. In addition to her parents, Hilda is predeceased by husband Jerry R. Jarrett, Sr. and daughter Patty Cox.
Hilda is survived by son, Timothy Pauley and wife Denice of Killeen, TX; stepson, Ronnie Jarrett of High Point; sister, Pam Arnold of VA; brothers, Terry Arnold of TN and Bill Arnold of VA; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.

Eddie Conway Carson McCoury, Jr.
HIGH POINT — Mr. Eddie Conway Carson McCoury, Jr., 68, passed away July 29, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Eddie was born on August 30, 1944, in Avery County, NC, to the late Eddie Conway Carson McCoury, Sr. and Anna Barbara Roth. On June 15, 1962, he married Mona Sue Potter McCoury, who preceded him in death on November 21, 1998. Eddie was also preceded in death by four siblings, Tommy McCoury, T.Y. McCoury, David McCoury and Colleen Martinek.
Eddie was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Susan M. Bennett and her husband Rick of Summerfield; sons, Eddie Conway Carson McCoury III and his wife Cindy McCoury of Archdale and James Patrick McCoury and his wife Nell of Greensboro; grandchildren, Jessica Ann McCoury, Heather Elaine McCoury, Jonathan Tyler McCoury, Christopher Scott Bennett, Ewan McIver Foster, Jameson Conway McCoury, Emily Danielle Bennett, and Ashley Nicole Bennett. Also surviving are his sisters, Rosa King of Indiana, Mary Perez of High Point, Bertha Young of Newland, Sheila Perry of Banner Elk, and Bobbie Ward of Raeford.
The family is very grateful and thanks Dr. Vicki Stovall, Dr. Jeanne Zekan, Dr. Adeyinka Adegoroye and staff of High Point Nephrology Associates PA for the devoted care given to Eddie over the years. The family also acknowledges Dr. Wayne Beauford, Dr. Stephen Sanders, High Point Kidney Center & Staff and Thomasville Kidney Center for the care given to our dad over the years.
A service to celebrate Eddie’s life will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013, in the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service, 120 Trindale Rd, Archdale. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:15 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2013. Eddie will be laid to rest with his wife Mona at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
Eddie’s children would like to invite family and friends for a covered-dish gathering to continue the celebration of Eddie’s life with cards, games, stories and fellowship on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Groome Inn, 4719 Groometown Rd, Greensboro, NC.

LEXINGTON — Dorothy Gobble Scarlette, 86, of Pine Ridge Nursing Home, formerly of Allen Drive, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the nursing home. Funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
