Josephus E. Douglas
ASHEBORO — Josephus Ebenezer Douglas, 95, died July 26, 2013. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home.
ASHEBORO — Julian Bennett “Dude” Staley, 98, died July 28, 2013. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel.
Sheila J. McNair
BALTIMORE, MD.— Sheila J. McNair, transitioned to her heavenly home on July 21, 2013, following an extended illness.
Sheila was born in High Point, N.C., to the late James and Ella Haley. She received her early education in the High Point area and retired from Total Health Care in Baltimore, Md., after 25 years of service. Sheila married Alexander McNair, Sr. and from that union they were blessed with a son, Alexander McNair, Jr. Sheila enjoyed going on cruises, going to the casino, traveling and watching her grandbabies. She was a loving wife, mother and doting grandmother.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Isabella Voigt.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Alexander McNair, Sr.; son, Alexander McNair, Jr.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Boyd (Nathaniel, Sr.) and Ella Jane Haley of High Point; three godsons; daughter Carla McNair Sharp; a special BFF, Liz; a host of other family and many friends.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Wylie Funeral Homes, Pa., 9200 Liberty Rd., Randallstown, Md. 21133.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of J. C. Staley.

HIGH POINT — Nancy (May) Kelley Valego, 76, passed away on July 26, 2013, from pancreatic cancer. She was born in Washington, D.C., on March 22, 1937, to Paul Eyre Kelley and Miriam (Schwinn) Kelley. She was a graduate of the Girls High School, Philadelphia, at age 15. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA, as well as a Doctorate in Pharmacology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. She then worked at Cornell University, New York City, with Nobel Prize winner Dr. Vincent Du Vigneaud. After a sabbatical to raise a family, she returned to work at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as a research associate in Physiology and Pharmacology, working in the OB/Gyn Department, and retired after nearly 30 years of service.
Nancy was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the church’s International Committee. She was an avid sailor, life member and past commodore of the Oak Hollow Yacht Club, High Point, N.C. She was an accomplished artist, enjoyed playing bridge, reading and time with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Paul and Miriam Kelley and is survived by her husband Thomas E. Valego of the home, sons Matthew Edward and wife Melissa Felton Valego, Cramerton, NC, Edward Mark Valego, Denver, Colo. and Brent Thomas and wife Darby Hodgetts Valego, Roswell, GA, grandson Nicholas and granddaughters Paige and Mia Valego, sister Emily and husband Richard E. Thomas, Littleton, N.C., brother George P. Kelley and wife Barbara, Montclair, N.J.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Saturday, August 3, at 11:00 a.m. by the Reverend Father Thomas P. Norris, O.S.F.S. Joan Betty Fulcher
COLFAX — Joan Beatty Fulcher, 80, died July 27, 2013, at River Landing at Sandy Ridge. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Mayodan. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.
THOMASVILLE — Curtis “Wayne” Gordon, 66, of Thomasville, N.C., passed away at the VA Hospice in Salisbury on July 28, 2013.
He was born on March 8, 1947, to the late Luther Gordon and Mary Varner Gordon in Davidson County. He was also preceded in death by six brothers.
Curtis was a member of Hillside Park Baptist Church in Thomasville. He also owned and operated Gordon’s Used Cars and Parts since 1976 also owned Gordon’s General Store since 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Stella Gordon; daughters: Sherry Coggin (Wyatt), Terry Gordon and Krystal Lawson (Chase); sisters Betty Lou Richardson and Vonnie Brady; brother, Charlie Gordon; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
Family visitation will be held Tuesday, July 30, from 6–8 p.m. at Hillside Park Baptist Church in Thomasville. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Hillside Park Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Chipps officiating followed with interment at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Thomasville Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Rena Bray Smith
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Rena Bray Smith, age 87 of Piedmont Crossing and formerly of Lake Drive in Thomasville, passed away July 27, 2013, in the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.
Mrs. Smith was born on June 10, 1926, in Wilkes County to Thomas Grover and Elizabeth Dala Pilson Bray. She married David Anthony Smith, formerly of Burlington, who preceded her in death on November 1, 1974. There were no children. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Bray Sheffield, and brothers, Thomas Lee Reginald Bray, Roy Gilmer Bray, and Chester Wade Bray.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two nieces, two nephews, one great-nephew and one great-great nephew.
A memorial service will be held in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, with the Reverend David L. Umphlett officiating. The family will receive friends in the church hall following the service. Inurnment will be private in Oakwood Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Timothy Charles Edwards
HIGH POINT — Timothy Charles Edwards, 48, passed away on July 16, 2013, in Charleston, S.C.
He was born on July 12, 1965, in High Point, N.C., a son of Ralph Lee Edwards and Earldine P. Edwards. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1983. Prior to moving to Charleston, S.C., he resided in Jamestown, N.C. He was employed at Dazy Florist prior to moving to Charleston. While in Charleston, he was employed at Tiger Lily Florist and at Grandville Events and Catering. He was a 5-year volunteer at the Red Cross Chapter in High Point in the blood services program. He treasured his volunteer time with the Red Cross. He loved the beach, fishing, beach music and being outdoors.
He is survived by a brother, Ralph Lee Edwards II (Bambi), two sisters, Debbie Hall and Judith T. Davis, one niece, Meredith D. Furst (Mike) three nephews, Nicholas L. Hall, Coby L. Edwards and James A. Davis, a great-nephew and two great-nieces.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Sunday August 4, 2013, at 3 p.m. at 5233 River Rd., Jamestown, N.C. Tim was a loving brother and will truly be missed. Private burial will take place at a later date.
