ASHEBORO — Johnsie Pierce Brantley, age 66, of Asheboro, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston- Salem. Mrs. Brantley was born September 3, 1947, in Asheboro, to Wesley and Golda Pierce. She was retired from Wachovia Bank after 35 years and worked at Bank of the Carolinas after her retirement. Mrs. Brantley loved spending time at the beach. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Brantley, and sister, Gail P. Connor.
She is survived by son, Rob Brantley and wife, Jennifer, of Lexington, daughter, Jami Moffitt and husband, Gary, of High Point, grandchildren, Zeke Brantley, who called her “B,” and Avery Lindley, sisters, Sharon Pierce of Asheboro, Janet Wilson and husband, Rick, of Durham, niece, Erin Connor of Greenville, S.C., and special friend, Lisa Willard.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 11, 2014, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, N.C. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Jonathan Shook and Jim Perryman officiating. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. TRINITY — Mrs. Gladys Ruth Jackson Crouse, 93, resident of Trinity, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at High Point Regional Hospital. Gladys was born December 12, 1920, in Stokes County, a daughter to the late Warner Lee and Martha Wagner Jackson. She was employed with The Blacksmith Shop, USFI and lastly, with the High Point Furniture Market. Gladys was a lifelong member of Fairview United Methodist Church and the Senior Saints Bible Class. Gladys enjoyed gardening and will be remembered for her green thumb and also for her gift of hospitality. On July 30, 1938, she married J.D. Crouse who preceded her in death on September 9, 1985. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded by thirteen brothers and sisters. She was the last remaining sibling of her family.
Surviving is her daughter, Patsy C. Griffith of Trinity, her son, Randy Crouse and wife, Cathy, of Archdale, four grandchildren, Chad Crouse and wife, Anna Ruth, of Thomasville, Leslie Crouse of St. Petersburg, Fla., Greg Griffith of New York, N.Y., and Kerri Gough of Greensboro, and five great grandchildren, Baylee Crouse, Alex Gough, Nikki Gough, Maddie Gough and Grayson Griffith.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with Pastor Nancy Krall officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. ARCHDALE — Mr. A. Lynwood English, 73, resident of Archdale, died April 8, 2014, at Westchester Manor. Arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
TRINITY — Minnie was born 1926 in Philadelphia to immigrant parents, Joseph M. Stranieri and Mary R. (Canataro) Stranieri, who became citizens. Minnie was the oldest of four siblings: Dominic; Elizabeth and John Stranieri. She received high grades at Gratz High School and intended to go to college. Instead she worked to help support her family during the depression. She met Raymond W. Hawkins while he was stationed with the Army in Cape May and married him in Philadelphia in 1946.
He moved her from Philadelphia to the hills of W. Va. where she lived until he died in 1986. Minnie had four children: Joseph H. Hawkins; Elizabeth Glaspie Dorman; Sally E Hall and Donna D. Kish. Her grandchildren, Michael Hawkins; Charles Glaspie, Jacqueline Edwards, Rachel Glaspie, Chaz Idol and Latisha Kish, are followed by eight great grandchildren. In 1992, Minnie and sister, Elizabeth, moved to Archdale, where she resided until she was “Promoted to Glory” on April 8, 2014.
Minnie dedicated her life to serving GOD and her family. Originally an active member and teacher of the Salvation Army in Weirton W. Va., then a member of Archdale United Methodist Church in Archdale, where she served her fellow man whenever possible. Minnie never hesitated to give of herself. She assisted young people trying to find their way and comforted the dying. Minnie will go from Sechrest Funeral Home in High Point to Turley’s Funeral Home in New Cumberland W. Va. She will be interned in Union Cemetery in New Manchester W. Va. The world has suffered a great loss.

HIGH POINT — Mrs. Jessie Mae Mitchell, 82, of 2453 St. Stephens Court, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at High Point Regional Hospital. Billy Joe Wagner
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Billy Joe Wagner, 70, a resident of Ford Street, died Tuesday evening, April 8, 2014, in the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. He was born September 30, 1943, in Davidson County, a son of Jacob Wagner and Bessie Freedle Wagner. Mr. Wagner was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was married to Mildred Chuke Wagner, who died February 12, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Elwood Wagner, and sisters, Jacqueline Porter and Norma Jean Cannon.
Surviving are daughters, Tonya Morgan and husband, Michael, of Thomasville, and Teresa Tucker and fiancé’, Michael Tucker, of Thomasville, grandchildren, Zachery Morgan, Sabrina Tucker and Ryan Tucker.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel. Interment with military rites will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at their respective homes.
