Maxine E. Shaw
LEXINGTON — Maxine Everhart Shaw, age 83, of Lexington died Saturday night. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements by Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.
HIGH POINT — Mr. Richard McCormick, 68, of High Point died on March 4, 2013, at his residence. Homegoing Services are Incomplete at this time. People’s Funeral Service has the honor of Serving the McCormick family.
Charles Clarence Ball
GREENSBORO — Charles Clarence Ball (Charlie), 70, passed away March 3, 2013, at Duke Medical Center, Durham, NC.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Charlie was born May 6, 1942, in Lansing, the son of Carl and Mamie Sheets Ball.
Charlie retired after many years as a truck driver for FedEx Freight and Raheem Trucking. He worked multiple jobs to support his family through the years. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and always greeting friends and family with a smile and handshake. His devotion to his family is without end. A man with one mission in life, to be the provider.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his sisters, Elsie Ball Featherstone and Ilene Ball Howell; sister-in-law, Rhumell Ball, father and mother-in-law, Carl Horton Sr. and Virginia Crowder; stepmother, Lessie Bare Ball.
He is survived by the love of his life for 53 years, his wife Virginia Horton Ball; son, Carl Allen Ball of the home; daughter, Suzanne Ball Scoggins (Bobby) of McLeansville; granddaughter, Brittany Kyle Scoggins of McLeansville; four-legged companion, Daisy Mae; brothers, Joe Ball (Betty), Ray Ball and Kyle Ball (Linda), all of West Jefferson; brothers-in-law, Gary Featherstone of Rapid City, SD, and Everett Howell of Todd, NC.
Friends will be received Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel.

Melvin Lawrence Gentry
THOMASVILLE — On March 4, 2013, Rev. Dr. Melvin Lawrence Gentry of 507 Pennington Ave., Thomasville, N.C., “slipped the surly bonds of earth, reached out his hand and touched the face of God.” The hope that he often quoted to us “Beloved, now are we the Sons of God; and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is!” has been fulfilled for God’s faithful servant. Today we celebrate with Rev. Gentry’s family That Blessed Hope of Heaven, our Eternal Home.
He was born October 7, 1924, the tenth child of Rev. Charles Keith and Pearl Johnson Gentry. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and six sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kathleen Simpson Gentry; two daughters, Judith (Judy) Lipina and husband Art, of Berne, IN; Kathryn Ann (Kathy) Hodges and husband Andy, of Spartanburg, SC; two sons, Melvin (Larry) Gentry of Seneca, SC, and Dr. Daniel (Dan) Gentry and wife, Kathy, of Thomasville, NC; twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews and relatives also survive.
After graduating from Marion College in 1946, (Indiana Wesleyan University), he was ordained as an Elder in the Wesleyan Church, North District, of NC. For 32 years he served on the District Board of Administration in NC, IN, and SC. He was a Pastor for 44 years serving six churches: Greensboro First (Faith Wesleyan), Thomasville First (Central Wesleyan), Gastonia First, College Wesleyan (Marion, Ind.) Greenville First Wesleyan, (SC), and Greenwood Hills Wesleyan (High Point, NC). He played a vital role in organizing Greenwoods Hills in 1959. For 27 years he served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Southern Wesleyan University, often in the capacity of secretary. Pastor Gentry traveled overseas many times to help further the Kingdom of Christ. In 1991, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Southern Wesleyan University. In 1997 he was named Trustee Emeritus of Southern Wesleyan University. His last pastorate was at Greenwood Hills Wesleyan Church where he served from 1980 until 1990 when he retired. He was voted Pastor Emeritus in 2009. After his retirement he was a general evangelist for the Wesleyan Church, holding many revivals, serving as interim pastor to several churches, and performing many weddings and funerals until his health declined.
The family will receive friends at Cumby Funeral Home, High Point, NC, from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Greenwood Hills Wesleyan Church, High Point, N.C. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Colfax, N.C.
Melvin was not only a pastor, evangelist, singer, leader and counselor, but also a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

LEXINGTON — Donald Lloyd Hedrick, 76, died Sunday, March 3, 2013. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Faith Missionary Alliance Church. Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel, is assisting the family.

THOMASVILLE — Betty Jo Sink 80, passed away on March 3, 2013 at Hospice Home at High Point.
She was born April 15, 1932, in Guilford County to Vester and Cazelle Mabe.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert Clay Sink, who passed away in December 2007 after 58 years of marriage.
She is survived by sons, Michael Sink and his wife Cathy, Tim Sink and his wife Melba, Jeffrey Sink and his wife Lisa; daughter Lori Hughes and her husband Mike; sister, Shirley Medlin and her husband Paul; grandchildren, Lauren Lake and her husband Shawn, Shannon and Brendon Sink, Jessica and Landon and Dylan, Marissa, Isaac, Andrew Reardon; great-grandchildren Madalyn and Vivian Lake and Mason Cline.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Colonial Baptist Church, 6792 Welborn Road, Trinity, NC, 27370 with Pastor Steve Jarvis officiating.
