LEXINGTON — Clarence Wayne Leonard, 65, of Arnold Road, Lexington, died Saturday February 23, 2013, at his home. A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Eugene C. McCray Sr.
HIGH POINT — Mr. Eugene C. McCray Sr., 87, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was the loving husband of Frances (Nogosky) to whom he was married for 63 years.
Mr. McCray was born April 11, 1925, in Welch, WV, a son of the late Vander and Jessie (Blevins) McCray. He was a coal miner for 21 years and also worked for several furniture companies around the area. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mr. McCray enjoyed spending time with his friends and neighbors, talking about the day or offering to cut their lawns to stay busy. He would also drive to visit his family in Greensboro every day to say hello and give their dogs special treats. He was fond of animals and had taken many rescues into his loving home.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McCray is survived by a daughter, Debra M. Jordan and her husband Dub of Julian; a son, Eugene C. “Corky” McCray Jr. and his wife Sandra of Julian; six grandchildren, Leigh Gregory and her husband Dave of Wilmington, Brian McCray and Ashley Cook of Greensboro, Ben McCray of Greensboro, Drew Shepherd of High Point and Haley and Hunter McCray of Julian; a great-granddaughter, Madison Gregory of Wilmington; a brother, Ralph McCray and his wife Mary of High Point; many nieces and nephews; and his precious cats, Oscar and Pineapple.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point. A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Mel Anderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of the Triad, P.O. Box 4461, Greensboro, NC 27404.

WINSTON-SALEM — Britt Van Meyerhoeffer, 54, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at the Hospice Home at High Point after being in declining health for six months.
A service to celebrate Britt’s life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013, in the Chapel at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Pastor Joseph Dzugan officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Infant Kylee Marie Paschal
ARCHDALE — Infant Kylee Marie Paschal went to be with the angels February 23, 2013. She is the daughter of Brandon Paschal and Patience Barnette. Kylee is also survived by grandparents Todd Allen Craft and Christy Canter Craft of Archdale, great-grandparents, Roy Paschal, Jimmy and Doris Canter, Floyd and Linda Canter Cromer, Mike and Pam Craft and great-great-grandmother Marie Hites. She is also survived by aunts, Ashley Paschal, Macy Craft and McKenzie Craft and uncle Chase Craft.
A memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Trindale Baptist Church with the Reverend Tony Moore officiating. The family will greet friends following the service and at other times at the home of Todd and Christy Craft.

Laura Jean Keeter Phillips
ADVANCE — Laura Jean Keeter Phillips, 79, passed away peacefully on Feb. 25, 2013, at Forsyth Hospital.
Laura was born on October 11, 1933, in Marion, NC. She attended Western Carolina University and then UNC-Chapel Hill, where she earned a master’s degree in education. During her career she taught at Gardner-Webb University, taught and served as a counselor in the High Point City school system and also taught third grade for many years at Immaculate Heart of Mary School.
For Laura, family always came first. Surviving Laura are her husband, Don Phillips and their children, David Phillips and wife Toni, Betsy Kahn and husband Dan, and Neal Phillips Persinger. She is also survivived by four grandchildren, Hannah and Lilly Persinger and Henry and Meghan Phillips.
A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Laura will be remembered for her wisdom, kindness and generosity. We’ll remember the care she gave us and her strong spirit, because it will always be a part of us. We’ll also remember her sewing, her baking and the beautiful patch of garden surrounding the lamppost of her former home on Wellington Court.
A memorial service will be held at Emerwood Baptist Church in High Point, NC, on Feb. 28, 2013, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations be made to Crossnore School in Crossnore, NC, which has been a favored charity for many years.

THOMASVILLE — Karen Steed Rutledge, 48, passed away unexpectedly at her home on February 25, 2013. Karen was born and raised in Guilford County. She was a secretary in the medical field. Karen was a member of First Baptist Church in Randleman. She loved her family, especially her daughter. Karen leaves behind her husband, daughter, mother and sister. She loved life and was a good Christian woman. Karen will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be on Friday, March 1, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Randleman. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 28, 2013, 6-8 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Service in Archdale.
