Robert W. “Zack” Clinard
HIGH POINT — Mr. Robert W. “Zack” Clinard, 82, resident of High Point, died Feb. 16, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point. Arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

THOMASVILLE — Rickie Joe Cody, 56, resident of Thomasville, died on Feb. 15, 2013.
There will be no formal services at this time. J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family.

JAMESTOWN — Mrs. Jean Harrison, 91, died Feb. 17, 2013, at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center in Jamestown. Arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

James Daniel Benge
THOMASVILLE — Mr. James Daniel Benge, 78, a resident of Wright Road, went home to be with Jesus and his loving wife of 61 years on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. He was born April 26, 1934, in Spartanburg, S.C., a son of Clarence Salford Benge and Cennie Price Benge. He was a retired employee with Carlisle/Rex Plastics of Thomasville and attended Charity Baptist Church.
On Oct. 20, 1951, he was married to Betty Joan Huffstickler, who preceded him in death Nov. 2, 2012.
Surviving are four daughters, Phyllis Ussery and husband Richard of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., Pat Hicks and husband Steve of Thomasville, Jane Lambert of Thomasville and Lynn Brown and husband James of Lexington; a son, Michael Benge and wife Diane of Thomasville; his step-mother, Bertha Lewis of Marion, N.C.; four sisters, Gladys Ashe, Penny Fox and Diane Minish, all of Marion, N.C., and Betty Jean Richardson of Gastonia, N.C.; four brothers, Lewis Benge of Marion, N.C., Charlie Benge of Thomasville, Danny Benge of Gastonia and Frankie Benge of Belmont, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Charity Baptist Church with Rev. Elton Wilborne, Rev. Carlton Brinson and Rev. Thomas Short officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Benge will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Billy Wayne Taylor Sr.
HIGH POINT — Mr. Billy Wayne Taylor Sr. of High Point died, Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.
Billy was born in Davidson, County, N.C., a son, of the late George W. Taylor and Wilma Bailey Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Michelle “Cindy” Taylor and a brother-in-law, Lewis Hunt.  Billy was of the Methodist faith. He retired from Carolina Container as a corrugator operator after 40-plus years of service. He loved the beach and his family. Billy was a loving and dedicated father, brother and grandfather.
He is survived by a daughter, Debra Calhoun and husband Clifton of High Point; a son, Bill Taylor and wife Christina of Asheboro; one sister, Evelyn Hunt of Lexington; two step-sisters, Jackie Herndon and Pasty Smith; four grandchildren, Sgt. Ian Taylor, Sarah Elizabeth Taylor, Rosa Maria Taylor and Aniela Jane Taylor; and cousins, Michael and Denise Hunt, Kenneth and Vicky Hunt and Jeff and Leslie Hunt.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.

THOMASVILLE — Ms. Jennifer Dawn Hill, 30, a resident of 4215 Fuller Mill Rd. died Thursday, Feb 14, 2013.
Memorial services will be conducted, Feb 19, 2013, Tuesday at 11 a.m. in J. C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville. The family will greet friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Hazel Louise Davis Samuel
WALLBURG — Mrs. Hazel Louise Davis Samuel, 85, a former resident of Putnam Ave., High Point, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the home of her son following several years of declining health.
Louise was born in Franklinville, March 19, 1927, a daughter of the late Robert Albert Davis and Myrtle Lee Allred Davis. A resident of High Point most of her life, she was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She retired from Acme Sample Books in 2004. Louise married John Albert Samuel in 1950 and they enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Samuel preceded her in death in 2008.
Surviving are two sons, Robert “Robbie” Samuel and wife Suzanne of Randleman and Tim Samuel and wife Luna of Wallburg; four grandchildren, Aresa Samuel Erb, Kimberly Samuel, Timmy Samuel and Katy Samuel; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Erb and Nathaneal Erb.
A celebration of Louise’s Life will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by the Rev. Tom Petty.  Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.  Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont.  Online condolences may be made at

Frank “Frankie” Walton Hudson Jr.
HIGH POINT — Mr. Frank “Frankie” Walton Hudson Jr., 59, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at the High Point Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Davis Funerals and Cremations.

Marguerite Kirkman Murray Baker
SAVANNAH, GA. — Marguerite Kirkman Murray Baker, 87, died Saturday at Summer Breeze Assisted Living on Wilmington Island, Savannah, Ga.
She was born in High Point, North Carolina, daughter of Forrest H. and Marguerite Kirkman Murray. Mrs. Baker received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina and began a career as secretary to the owner of Beason Hardware in High Point. In 1949, she married Henry M. Baker, making their home in High Point. They were married for 63 years. Due to Mr. Baker’s employment, they located to New York City, moving later to Madison, NJ, where they lived for many years. Mrs. Baker was a devoted mother, avid golfer and a member of Grace Episcopal Church and served on the church altar guild. She continued her community volunteer activities after retirement in Savannah with the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church on the Isle of Hope, Savannah, Ga.
Surviving are her husband, Henry M. Baker of Savannah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Forrest West and Joyce C. Baker of Savannah; James Edward and R.J. Baker of Brentwood, Tenn.; three sisters, Betty Hunt Groome of High Point, N.C.; Carolyn Moore of Atlanta, Ga.; Pat Willard of High Point, N.C.; three grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Baker, Lauren K. Baker, Jennifer P. Baker; and sister-in-law, Virginia Louise Heck of Baltimore, Md.
Memorial visitation was held Thursday evening, Feb. 14, 2013, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. The funeral service was private.
