HIGH POINT — Mrs. Irene Jennings Simpson, 93, long time resident of High Point, was escorted by the Angels to be with her Lord in Heaven on April 9, 2013.
Mrs. Simpson was born October 24, 1919 in Macon, GA, a daughter to the late E.W. and Leona Freeman Jennings. She had worked at The Fresh Market, Hanes Hosiery Mill and was of the Wesleyan faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 5 sisters, 3 brothers, her husband, a grandson; Chuck Simpson and a granddaughter; Tonya Paige Wayne.
Surviving are her two children, Charles (Charlie) Simpson and wife Debra of High Point and Donna Wayne and friend Jim Welch of Creedmoor; two grandchildren, Amy Strawser and Patrick Simpson; six great grandchildren, Zach Simpson, Tyler Simpson, Austin Wayne, Carlie Strawser, Isabelle Strawser and Bryce Nance; a daughter-in-law, Lori Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Rev. David M. Emery officiating. Interment followed at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Whispering Hope Baptist Church, 300 E. HIGH POINT — Mark Craig Kennedy, 55, of High Point, died Saturday, April 13, 2013.
Mark was born October 31, 1957 to James and Dot Kennedy. He was a member of Oakview Baptist Church and worked for many years as a welder at Benner and Fields. He was preceded in death by wife, Teresa Kennedy; father James Kennedy; and brother David Allen Kennedy.
Mark is survived by son, Michael Kennedy and his wife Amanda; daughter, Tiffany Kennedy; mother, Dot Kennedy; sister, Martha Guyer and her husband Brent; and grandchildren Kolten, Jacob, and Kelsey.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point Chapel, with the Rev. Don Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery, Thomasville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
