Jack Duncan Brooks
ARCHDALE — Jack Duncan Brooks 86, passed away on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Jan. 23, 1927, in Davidson County to the late Ed and Christine Sowers Brooks and had been a resident of Archdale and vicinity since 1959. Mr. Brooks was a veteran of the US Army and served during WWII and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was a retired professional truck driver with Johnson Motor Lines. It was once told that Jack drove from High Point, North Carolina to New York in snowy, icy conditions without any problem getting the delivery there, then, walking a city block, fell thirteen times.
On Feb. 16, 1952, he married the former Dorothy Vestal, who survives of the residence. Also surviving are two daughters, Gail Nooe and husband, Ron of Trinity and Sharon Andrews and husband, Mike of Archdale; one son, Lindy Brooks and wife, Betsy of Archdale; two brothers, Hoyt Brooks and wife, Maxine and Barry Brooks and wife, Mona, all of Lexington; two sisters, Marlene B. Morris and Donnie Broch and husband, Calvin, all of Lexington; six grandchildren, Mike Andrews, Brett Andrews, Deaven Brooks, Hampton Brooks, Misty Tucker and Paula Nooe; Six Great-Grandchildren, Baily Andrews, Gunter Andrews, Dylan Brooks, Caleb Tucker, Makayla Tucker and Mya Tucker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Eddie Brooks and sisters, Patricia Beck and June Story.
Mr. Brooks was a great and loving husband and father and he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. To know Jack was to love him. He always had a loving smile to share with others and a quick wit. He was always ready to help in any way. He lived and talked truth, honesty and integrity.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, officiated by Reverend J. C. Alley and Reverend Roger Weisner. Entombment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Deaven Brooks, Mike Andrews, Jeffrey Tucker, Brett Andrews, Hampton Brooks and Lindy Brooks.

Jack R. Daniels
TRINITY — Jack R. Daniels, 82, of Trinity, NC went home to be with his Lord on Oct. 23, 2013.
He was born on April 12, 1931 in Greensboro, NC a son of James and Pearl Jane Daniels. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years and was proud to serve his country. He was employed by Lorillard of Greensboro for 33 years. He was a member of Sophia Baptist Church in Sophia.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Annie Barham. He is also survived by sons: Alan Daniels and wife Robin of Trinity, Jeff Daniels and wife Linda of Trinity, Tim Daniels and wife Robin of Greensboro: and daughter Debbie Jones of Greensboro. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, Oct. 28th, at the VA National Cemetery (located at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center) in Salisbury, NC at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Service, 120 Trindale Road, Archdale, NC on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the VA Liberty Lane Hospice House, 1601 Brenner Avenue, Salisbury, NC 28144.
LEXINGTON — Robert Lewis Mode died Octo. 24, 2013, at the Hinkle Hospice House.
A celebration of life will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lexington.
Curby Simerson Sr.
LEXINGTON — Curby Lee Simerson Sr., 66, of Simerson Road, died Oct. 25, 2013, at his home.
A service to celebrate his life will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the fellowship hall of Tyro United Methodist Church.
ARCHDALE — Billy “Ryan” Simmons, 18, a resident of Mendenhall Place, died Oct. 21, 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Full Gospel Freewill Holiness Church.
HIGH POINT — Mary McNeil Stuart, age 80, a resident of High Point, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013.
She was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Guilford County, NC to the late Charles Stuart and Roxie Wilson Stuart and had been a resident of this area all her life. She received her Undergraduate Degree from High Point College and after college, she worked for the Chamber of Commerce of High Point, and retired after 30 years of service. After retirement she continued to work part time at the Presbyterian Home as long as her health permitted.
Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the church choir, taught Sunday school, participated in Meals on Wheels and served the church in many other capacities. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her brother; Charles Stuart, and her sisters; Anne Boyles and Sarah McLean. Surviving are 3 nieces and 8 nephews.
A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28th, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Dr. Kenneth Broman-Fulks officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday one hour prior to the service, in the Family Life Center at the church.

Dorothy Thomason Ward
JAMESTOWN — Mrs. Dorothy Thomason Ward, 82, former resident of Jamestown died Wednesday afternoon in the Kindred Hospital.
Mrs. Ward was born Feb. 22, 1931, in High Point a daughter of Judson and Ann Moore Thomason. She had been a resident of High Point all of her life and was retired from Alderman Studio. Mrs. Ward was a member of Hayworth Wesleyan Church and Building Believers Sunday School Class. On April 14, 1950 she was married to Charles Houston Ward who preceded her in death on May 14, 2011.
Surviving are 1 daughter; Mrs. Brett (Mary Ann) Saunders of Greensboro and 1 son; Mitchell Ward of Lexington; 5 grandchildren, Hannah Martin, DeWayna, Mitch, Joey, and Katie Ward; 1 great grandchild; Li Childress.
Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service on Eastchester Dr. by the Rev. David M. Emery. Interment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at 12:30 until the hour of the service and other times at the home of the daughter at 5446 GGO Dr. Greensboro, N.C. 27406.
Pallbearers will be Mitch and Joey Ward, Danny Bradwell, Toby Nowkelo, Bill Isenhour, and Ray Carter.
The family would like to acknowledge all of Mrs. Ward friends for their love and support during her illness and the staff of Kindred Hospital.

Mae Blakley Warren
ARCHDALE — Mae Blakley Warren, 94, died on Oct. 24, 2013, at the GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center.
Mae was born in Lee County on Sept. 20, 1919, a daughter of the late Luther Roby and Nellie Stewart Blakley. On November 23, 1940, she married Joseph Junior Warren, who preceded her in death January 19, 2002. She was a member of Archdale United Methodist Church where she and her husband were Co-Treasurers from 1964 until 2000. Mae was a member of the Archdale-Trinity Lions Club. She has received many awards for her services to the Archdale community which included the Advocacy Award from the Randolph County Senior Adults Association, Humanitarian Award from the Archdale-Trinity Chamber of Commerce and 1985 Woman of the Year, presented by the American Business Women’s Association.
There are no immediate survivors.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Archdale United Methodist Church with Reverend Stuart Noell and Reverend Harold Shives officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service at Trinity Cemetery.
