SEAGROVE — Martha Ann Merriman Yow, 63, of Seagrove, NC, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Flag Springs United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
LEXINGTON — Lisa Everhart Mize, of Michael Drive, 52, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at her home. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Ebeneezer United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
HIGH POINT — Mr. Garland Homer Harvell, 86, resident of 317 Sinclair St. died Sunday morning at the Hospice Home of High Point.
Mr. Harvell was born Dec. 6, 1926 in Guilford County a son of Manson and Elma Redrick Harvell. He had been a resident of High Point all of his life and was retired from Carson’s Inc. Mr. Harvell attended Hope Chapel Baptist Church. He was married to Rachel Shaffer who preceded him in death in 1986.
Surviving are 2 sons; Larry and Rick Harvell both of High Point; 1 daughter; Carolyn Kindley and husband Keith of Denton; 2 Brothers; Robert and Wesley Harvell both of Archdale; 3 grandchildren; Sherry Lomax, Melissa Kindley and Michelle Sexton; 7 Great Grandchildren; Dante, Kira, and Darwin Kindley; Kolby and Kaitlyn Lomax, and Bella and Thomas Sexton.
Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00a.m. from the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by the Rev. Joe Bare. Interment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8p.m. at the funeral home.

Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville. Interment will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home.

TRINITY — Shatina Renee Rivers, age 37, of Trinity, NC, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, in High Point. She was born December 16, 2013, the daughter of Gwendolyn Rivers and Calvin York.
She was a graduate of Trinity High School, class of 1994. She later received her Associate Degree in Pharmacy Technology, and was currently a student at Guilford Technical Community College pursuing her LPN License. Shatina was a faithful and committed employee with Westwood Nursing Facility as a CNA for 19 years. She was also a devoted person to her family and always delighted in their gatherings.
Loved ones who preceded her in death are her maternal grandparents, Mr. Hardie and Mrs. Catherine Rivers, also a close cousin, Alicia McCluney.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Gwendolyn Rivers of the home, Calvin (Juanita) York of High Point; sister, Chrislyn Bright of High Point; four aunts, Catherine Haney, Josephine Crawford and Yvonne (Ricky) McCluney all of High Point and Evg. Lenora (Bishop Greg) Bennett of Wadesboro, NC; four uncles, Joseph (Wanda) Rivers of Winston Salem, NC, Gaines (Pamela) Rivers of High Point, Tony Rivers of the home and Ronald (Michelle ) Rivers of High Point; a very special friend, Darrell Tillman; numerous cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Living Water Baptist Church with Bishop Callands, eulogist. Family visitation will begin at 12:30-1p.m. at the church. Greensboro — Bill Harvey, 82, of Greensboro, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on October 14, 2013.
He was born to the late Ernest and Dorothy Harvey on December 4, 1930, in Greensboro, NC. Bill graduated from Jamestown High School in 1949 and proceeded to spend his entire life residing in the Greensboro area.
Bill spent over 40 years traveling the country playing golf for a living. During that time, he won over 300 championships and received many prestigious awards, including being inducted into the Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame as well as the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame. He then went on to open the Sedgefield Driving Range where he was able to pass on his love for the game to others in the community.
Bill is survived by his brother, Bob Harvey; daughter, Terry Harvey Swain; three sons, Bill Harvey, Scott Harvey and Justin Harvey; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Carolina’s Golf Association, PO Box 319, West End, NC 27376. This was an organization that was a very important part of Bill’s life.

HIGH POINT — Mr. James Dale Mullis, 70, resident of 305 Wrightenberry St., died Saturday evening at 11:15 p.m. in the High Point Regional Hospital following a 3 week illness.
Mr. Mullis was born June 18, 1943, in High Point a son of Roy and Sarah Connell Mullis. He had been a resident of High Point all of his life and was retired Liberty Lumber Co.
Surviving are his wife Charlotte Durham Mullis of the home, 1 son; James Mullis and wife Debbie of Midland; 1 Brother; Richard Mullis and wife Jean of Navarre, Fla.; 1 grandson; James Lee Mullis Jr.; special great niece ; Renee Crotts and great niece Madison Crotts.
Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m from the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale by the Rev. Harold Shives. Entombment will follow in Floral Garden Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8p.m. at the funeral home.

Jamestown— Mr. Roy Banks Whitesell, 74, a resident of Jamestown, passed away October 13, 2013, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A resident of this area all of his life, Mr. Whitesell was born on August 18, 1939, in High Point to the late Robert Banks Whitesell and Ruth Elizabeth Stone Whitesell. He was a member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church and the loving husband of Joyce Hunsucker Whitesell. Mrs. Whitesell worked as a truck driver, having worked for FlyBack, Hennis Motor Lines, Spector- Redball, Carolina Freight, and later retiring from ABF Trucking. He was also the sole owner of RBW Developments, LLC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitesell is preceded in death by one brother, Edward Harvey Whitesell.
Surviving is his wife, Joyce H. Whitesell of the home; step-children, Judy Dumars of Inman, SC, Michael Thompson of Thomasville, Mickey Thompson of Jamestown, Chris Thompson of Kernersville, Keith Thompson of Spartanburg, SC, and Kimberly Carter and her husband Russ of Spartanburg, SC; six grandchildren, Amy Nicole Speaks, Ryan J. Dumars, Natalie J. Kelley, Timothy K. Thompson, Lane C. Morgan, and Melissa F. Thompson; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 16 at Jamestown Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jay D. Smith and Newton Cowan of Jamestown Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

ARCHDALE — Steven Michael Gunter, 55, of Archdale, died Friday, October 11, 2013.
Born January 26, 1958, to Phillip Hobson Gunter, and Madie Hill Gunter, Michael was a resident of this area for all of his life. He worked as a plumber, lastly for Hurley Board Plumbing. He proceeded in death by his father, his son, Michael Ian Gunter, and sister, Lori Gunter Haney.
Michael is survived by his wife, Donna Gunter, of the home; mother, Madie Hill of Archdale; children, David Marshall Gunter and Ashley Gunter Charles and husband Craig, their mother Tamara Gunter Jarrell, all of Archdale; brother Phillip Ray Gunter and wife Kathy of Thomasville; grandchildren Justin Killingsworth, Hailey Charles, and Cole Charles; step grandchildren, Steven Moore, Hayden Lineback, and Dylan Brooks.
Visitation will be held at Unity Baptist Fellowship, 4918 Old Marlboro Rd., Sophia, NC, 27350, on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
