THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Elizabeth Loflin Nifong, 94, of Thomasville, peacefully went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 18, 2013, while at Hinkle Hospice House. Elizabeth was born to George T. Loflin and his wife Lou Nealie Surratt Loflin, one of the “Greatest Generation”, born on the last day of the Great War, November 11, 1918. She was, in her mother’s words, “a victory baby”. Elizabeth was a loving homemaker and caregiver for many children and was dearly loved and cherished. She was married to Mr. Robert Thomas Emmons until his passing in December of 1966. She was then married to Mr. Walter E. Nifong until his passing in January of 1989.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was predeceased by brothers: Talmadge, Bradley and Joel and sisters: Irene, Jenora and Nannie Mae. She is survived by her sons, Robert Leon Emmons and James Edwin Emmons & his wife Brenda. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sherri E. Cooper & husband Dan and Denise E. Gurley & husband Kurt, as well as great grandchildren, Ashton, Kurtlyn, Max, Caroline “Elizabeth” and Kamden.
Elizabeth’s service will be on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Amazing Grace Baptist Church (661 Light Rd. Thomasville) with Rev. Hillis Burton officiating at 2 p.m. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Committal will follow the service at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville. THOMASVILLE — Sara Olean “Nana” Heter, 88, of Thomasville, died July 19, 2013, at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. She was born July 22, 1924, in Thomasville, a daughter of Alonzo and Grace Clodfelter. She was married December 24, 1947, to Constantine Peter “Connie” Heter, who preceded her in death May 16, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill Clodfelter and J. Van Clodfelter; and sister, Gretchen Hunt. She was a charter member of Our Lady of the Highways and was retired from Maro Hosiery. Surviving is two sisters, Odessa Boles and Suzanne Little and husband Don; special niece, Amanda Sue “Mandy” Vipperman and husband Stephen, great niece and nephew, Anna Grace and Jason Vipperman; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 21, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. HIGH POINT — Wayne B. Sutherland, 80, passed away July 18, 2013 at the Hospice Home at High Point. A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held Monday, July 22 at noon in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel. HIGH POINT — Mr. Tommy Alford 61, of High Point, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point. He was born October 24, 1951, to Bill Manning and Martha Alford in Marlboro County, SC.
Tommy relocated to High Point and worked for High Point Chemical Company for 27 years. He was married to Tamara McFadden. While he worked hard he also enjoyed life from watching sports. His favorites were car racing, basketball and a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially his especially his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren, Timothy, Jeniyah and Jaquez Brown.
Tommy is survived by a host of family who will miss him; his wife Tamara McFadden Alford; children, Angela (Jamal) Alford, Tawana (Willie) Alford Commander, Cherica Alford, Thomas Alford, Jermaine Alford, all of High Point, Kierra McFadden, Diamond Bryant, Miracle Alford, Destinee Alford, Sharika Parker, and Shei-mas McFadden all of the home; two brothers, James Alford of Sanford, NC and Leroy Alford of McColl, SC; three sisters, Gloria (Luther) Townsend of High Point, NC, Donella McLeod of McColl, SC and Levonna McQueen of Lauringburg, NC; five grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends although not named you meant a lot to Tommy.
Home going celebration will commence 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Living Water Baptist Church with Pastor Darryl Napper, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Family visitation will be from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at the church. The family will also receive friends at the home.

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Mary Helen Hayworth Craver, 93, died on Friday, July 19, 2013, at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on August 27, 1919, in the Abbotts Creek Township to Alfred D. and Mary Ethel Hammer Hayworth, she had made this area her home for her entire life. She was the class valedictorian for Wallburg High School and also graduated from Jones Business School in High Point. She was a bookkeeper with William Jarrell Attorney at Law in High Point and also for Clinard Oil Company. She was preceded in death by brothers David Athel Hayworth, and Belvin Hayworth, sisters, Annie Smith, Ruth Hedgecock, Maude Hayworth, Norma Squires and Madge Carrico. On February 16, 1941, she married William Joseph Craver who also preceded her in death on March 26, 1995.
Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Sunday at 2 p.m in the Chapel of J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home, 10301 N. NC Highway 109 in Wallburg with Elder Steve Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m at the Funeral Home.
