E.C. “Gabby” Bryant, Jr.
HIGH POINT — Everett Clyde Bryant, Jr of High Point, NC and Weatherford, TX died Monday, May 5, 2014.
He was born on March 3, 1927 to Everett Clyde and Margaret Reilly Bryant.  Gabby attended High Point city schools, including the Little Red School House, the McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN and Davidson College where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.  In 1945, he enlisted and served proudly in the U.S. Navy.  Upon his discharge, Gabby went to work for Drexel Furniture and began a lifetime career in the furniture industry. He enjoyed working with furniture designers and manufacturers representing Continental Brass, Ottens Products and others.
On June 27, 1952, Gabby married “the prettiest girl he ever saw”, Jean Cochrane Neal.  Jean died on June 25, 2013 days shy of their 61st wedding anniversary.
Gabby was an avid and accomplished amateur golfer.  He qualified for and competed in the 1964 U.S.G.A Amateur Championship at the Canterbury Golf Club in Cleveland.  He, along with his frequent match play partner, Dale Morey, won multiple Carolina 4-Ball tournaments in Camden, SC as well as Carolina vs Virginia Captain’s Putter trophies.  Gabby served on the Board of Directors of the Carolina Golf Association and the Southern Golf Association.
In the early ‘80’s, Gabby and Jean made the decision to divide their time between High Point and Weatherford, TX where they successfully pursued their dream of ranching and raising champion cutting horses.  His prize stallion, Doc’s Solano, was ranked in the top 25 on the list of all-time leading cutting horse sires.  In 1999 Gabby was inducted into the National Cutting Horse Association’s Breeders Hall of Fame.  He was one of the leaders instrumental in promoting cutting horse events both in Texas and on the East Coast where he served as a Board member and President of the Augusta Futurity.
Gabby was also proud of raising his children and grandchildren.  Grandfather was given to bragging about every accomplishment of his three beloved grandsons.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Jean, Gabby was preceded in death by his sister, Miss Peggy Bryant and by his son, Everett Clyde Bryant, III.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Bryant Young and her husband Ron of Weatherford, TX, Lynn Bryant Finnegan and her husband Jim of High Point, and Jean Neal Bryant of Dallas, TX as well as his grandsons, James Patrick Finnegan, III of Carrboro, NC, Everett Bryce Young of Hanover, NH and Reilly Bryant Finnegan of Chapel Hill, NC.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank his caregivers, especially Janet (Gladys) Sumpter, Sharon Phillips and Barbara Green.  Special thanks also to the Ministry at Wesley Memorial and to Dr. Richard Orr and Dr. Barry Cheek and their teams.
In accordance with his wishes, services will be private.

Shirley Dorsett
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Shirley Walker Dorsett, age 92, of High Point, died Thursday, May 8th, at Triad Care & Rehabilitation Center in High Point. Shirley was born June 11, 1921 in Mabscott, W. Virginia, a daughter of the late Clifford and Claudia Walker.  Sibling survivors of Shirley are two sisters, Maxine Walker Montgomery of Matthews, NC and Nell Walker Garrette of Fredericksburg, VA.  Her brother, Harry C. Walker, was the first of the four siblings to precede the others in death.
When she was 15 years old, her family moved to High Point from Lexington, NC.  A few years after Shirley’s graduation from Central High School, she married her sweetheart, David C. Dorsett who preceded her in death in 1997.
Mr. and Mrs. Dorsett lived 59 years as husband & wife.  Their two daughters survive them: Mrs. Darla (Charles Thomas) Dorsett Barber & Mrs. Jill (Kenneth Butler) Dorsett Keiser.
Other survivors are four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren: David Barber and wife Stephani, and their children: Felicity, Cadence & Amalei: Amy Barber Byrd and husband Jeremy Byrd, and their children: Gabriel & Gavin; Jeremy Keiser and his wife Alyssa, and their children: Ethan & Emily; Mary Victoria Keiser, and her child: Cheyenne.
Throughout her life, Shirley worked in her own home business sewing original clothing and clothing from patterns.  She also made alterations.  At other times she worked at Adam Millis in the Hosiery Division.  Her last professional position was in Quality Control at Archdale Mfg.  Her favorite job was working at home, taking care of her husband and daughters!
She loved various activities including riding her tandem bicycle, as long as she was with her husband,” her David.”  They loved to visit the Outer Banks!  Now our Momma and Mee-Maw has returned to our Daddy and Pee-Paw and to their little terrier, Happy, who made it up to Heaven a few years before either of them! What a happy reunion! For those who know Shirley best, they know she will be painting Heaven pink with her Savior’s approval!
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at Sechrest Funeral Service at 1301 E. Lexington Avenue in High Point.  On Monday a memorial service to celebrate Shirley’s life will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Service officiated by Rev. Kenneth C. Kroohs, Rector of Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church.  The Internment will commence after the funeral between 3:00-4:00 p.m. at Floral Gardens Cemetery 1730 West English Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Triad Care and Rehabilitation Center, 707 N. Elm Street, High Point, NC  27262.

James Lilly
SOPHIA — Rev. James Walter Lilly, 74, died May 9, 2014 in the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Trinity Holiness Church, 4997 Plainfield Road in Sophia. The family will receive friends at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. and other times at the home of the son Tom Lilly, 997 Embler Road, Lexington.

Brian Lloyd
GREENSBORO — Brian David Lloyd, 54, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014. A devoted father, husband and son, Brian lived every day to its fullest. Enjoying his friends and family was his favorite way to spend time. He loved golf, college football and playing basketball.  He was famous for organizing many social events for his friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Karen Lloyd, two daughters, Savannah Lloyd, 23, Delaney Lloyd, 21; his mother, Patricia Lloyd and family and friends who were fortunate to have had him enrich their lives.
A Service to Celebrate Brian’s life will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jamestown United Methodist Church 403 East Main St., Jamestown, NC 27282 with the Reverend Jay Bowers officiating.  The family will receive fiends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.

Marie McDonald
HIGH POINT — Mrs. Marie Diggs McDonald age 90 passed away Thursday at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mrs. McDonald was born December 3, 1923 in Peachland, NC to James and Francis Ussery Diggs. Upon graduation she attended King’s Business College in Charlotte. While there she met John R. McDonald whom she married on July 3, 1944. She was a homemaker most of her life, but also worked several years in the cafeteria at Millis Road Elementary School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in High Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, one sister, one daughter, Linda Ray Lippard, and her husband who died on May 28, 1980.
Surviving are her son, John R. (Bob) McDonald, Jr. and wife Debbie of Warrenton, Virginia, her daughter, Kaye McDonald Shaver and husband, David of Sophia, her step-daughter Maxie Hinshaw and husband Rudy, and step-daughter Barbara Garrett. She has four grandchildren, Jamie Shaver and wife, Devon, Elisabeth A. Shaver, Travis Lippard and wife, Lana, and Tara Prigge and husband, Trevor. She also has four step-grandchildren, Skipper Hinshaw, Linda Blackley, David Garrett, and Pam Garrett. Her six great- grandchildren are Olivia, Jackson and Hudson Shaver, Braxton and Sophia Prigge, and Sadie Lippard. Her surviving siblings are Martha Burrell, Bruce Diggs, Larry Diggs, and Barbara Joy Calhoun.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who was devoted to family. She was loved dearly by family and friends. She had a zest for life and enjoyed others, giving generously of herself.  She made friends wherever she went and never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 13 at 1:00 pm at Sechrest Funeral Chapel, 1301 E Lexington Ave., High Point, NC with Rev. Ken Helser officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A private family service for burial will be conducted at Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro, NC following the funeral.

Walter Oliver Meredith
JAMESTOWN — Mr. Walter Oliver Meredith, 82, died on Thursday, May 8th at Hospice Home of High Point. Mr. Meredith was born on January 2, 1932 in Randolph County and was a resident of Jamestown all of his life. Throughout his life, he was a farmer, contractor and was self-employed with Jamestown Septic Tank. He loved raising a garden and working in tobacco.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved country music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Susan Younger; five brothers and two sisters. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley Edwards Meredith; two sons, Glenn Meredith and wife Connie of High Point, NC and Alan Meredith and wife Melissa of Jamestown, NC; daughter, Sharon McMahan and husband Dennis; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and brother, Robert Meredith of High Point, NC.
The family would life to extend their appreciation to the Hospice Home for their kindness, compassion and care given to Dad during this difficult time.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, 11:00 a.m., at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.

Dale Norris
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Ralph Daylon “Dale” Norris, 72, a resident of Thomasville, died Thursday, May 8, 2014 at his residence.  He was born January 24, 1942 in Columbus County, N.C. a son of Willie Ralph Norris and Elneta Todd Norris.  Mr. Norris was a retired truck driver and a member of Thomasville Masonic Lodge #214 A.F. & A.M, earning his 32 degree.  He was a member of Southgate Baptist Church.  On August 4, 1996 he was married to Betty Jo Williams Garrett, who died February 26, 2002.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gene Norris.
Surviving are daughters, Anita Norris of Albemarle, Tonya Parrott and husband Jessie of Little River, S.C. and Stacie Norris of Wilmington; sons, Michael Dale Norris and wife Traci of Melbourne, Fla., and Dale Lynn Norris of Wilmington; a brother, Wayne Norris of Wilmington; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 at 1 P.M. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with Rev. Church Garner officiating.  Entombment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Dorothy Riley
ARCHDALE — Dorothy Ingram Riley, 94, died May 10, 2014 at Gray Brier Nursing Home. A graveside service will be held at noon Monday at Floral Garden Memorial Park. Arrangements were made through Cumby Family Funeral Service on Trindale Road in Archdale.

Clarence Russell
TRINITY — Mr. Clarence “Stan” Russell, resident of Trinity, age 71, went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2014, at Hospice House of Randolph County.  He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.
Mr. Russell was born October 7, 1942 in Troy, NC a son to the late E.B. and Lucille Russell.  A resident of this area all of his life, he retired after more than 50 years and more than 6 million safe, accident-free miles as a long distance truck driver.   He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Archdale and the Willing Workers Sunday School class.  He was member # 732 of the Bush Hill Masonic Lodge.
In 1963 he married the former Donna Reed Parris who survives of the home.  He has one sister, Nancy Gordon Russell of Surfside Beach, S.C.
Also surviving are 3 daughters:  Lisa Russell Motley and husband Scott of Archdale;  Angela Russell Barrow and husband Todd of Trinity; and Amy Russell Walker and husband Mark, also of Trinity.  Six grandchildren:  Tyler Motley and wife, Paige; Jacob Motley,  Bryant and Benjamin Walker and Claire and Caitlyn Barrow.  Also one great grandchild, Jackson Motley.  Stan also has several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, May 12, 2014 in the chapel of Cumby Funeral Service in Archdale.  Pastors Robert Ferguson and Stuart Noell will be officiating.  Entombment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Mausoleum.  Visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00 pm until the hour of the service.
